To me, Malakite is a very strong stone when it comes to this beautiful semi-precious stones’ color. I’ve always wanted to work with it bit have found that it can be a very overpowering sort of green. So, when I learned this new and awesome stitch from friend and co-worker Beth Chevront, I just knew that these Malakite chips that have been sitting in my stash for ages now would be the perfect beads to use. The variations in the greens in the stone are broken up by the way the chips are cut, and when woven give the bracelet depth and light without being overpowering. The tiny Gold Charlottes give the stones light and a little more texture. This bracelet is finished off with a dimpled square Tierra Cast Gold Tone Toggle Clasp and an 8mm round Malakite bead wire wrapped to it. From end to end, including the clasp it measures 8.25 inches in length.

SNOWBALL NECKLACE

This is my EBW Challenge piece for the month of December. It is my interpretation of the ‘Peace Piece’ theme for the month and a further foray into the world of beaded beads. In general, I do not like winter. But, there are moments when I am mesmerized by peacefully falling snow on a dark and quiet night when the world seems like its wrapped up in a cotton ball it’s so quiet. Of course, I don’t venture out at times like these because snow is cold and wet, but if I had any say to it, the perfect snowball would look and feel something like the focal bead in this necklace.

The focal bead is based on a technique designed by beader Nancy Zellers using a hand painted wooden bead as the base on which to bead first peyote stitch and then fringes. I used size 11/0 White Opaque seed beads and Crystal AB Cut Delica beads for the fringes. The other three beaded beads are comprised of Swarovski Crystal AB Bicones, Rounds and Silver Lined Clear size 11/0 seed beads. These seed beads are suspended from a Sterling Silver Chain that measures 21.5 inches in length including the Sterling Silver Springring Clasp.

BALL AND CHAIN NECKLACE

I am currently enjoying making beaded beads and this fashionable off center piece shows them off nicely. I began with hand painting and sealing 6 wooden beads and then beading around each one with either size 11/0 black seed beads for the larger wooden beads, or size 13/0 black Charlotte beads for the smaller wooden beads. These beads were then strung onto beading wire along with a few Sterling Silver smooth round beads and attached to pieces of large link Sterling Silver Chain. These links alternate in a smooth and hammered textures. Finishing of the piece is a large Sterling Silver flower toggle clasp. This piece measures 27 inches in length from end to end including the clasp.

Ice Princess Collar

This collar is a piece I made more the 2008 FireMountain Gems Annual Beading Contest which won First Place in the Cabochon Category.
The focal cabochon is hand sculpted with polymer clay encrusted with Swarovski Crystals and this Bugle Beads and Swarovski Bicone Crystals forming her headpiece. The stones that trail up the necklace are graduated Moonstone cabochons with bead embroidery around them of crystal and white seed beads. There are larger Swarovski Crystal Bicones and Freshwater Pearls that decorate this necklace. The fringe is made of Spiral Bugle beads and more Swarovski Crystals. This necklace took about 30 hours to complete.

Made with the identical materials of 5 Brown Goldstone Cabs that have been carefully bezeled to a base of hand dyed Pellon, this is another conversation piece! Tiny size 15/0 Rocailles, size 11/0 seed beads in various colors, Bugle beads, Brown Goldstone beads, Freshwater Pearls, Swarovski Crystals, Antiqued Brass stampings adorn a brass 1-½ inch wide brass cuff. The inside is lined with silky soft Ultra-suede for comfort. This cuff adjustable to some degree.

This Piece was created for the 2009 Fire Mountain Gems Annual Beading Contest. It was entered in the Cabochon Category and won Second place.

I’ve always wanted to create a piece using Brown Goldstone. All those little flecks of gold in that earthy brown intrigued and called to me. The Martian Queens’ Necklace is a study of several different techniques including bead embroidery, fringing, tubular netting, peyote stitch and some wire work. Consisting of 19 Brown Goldstone Cabs that have been carefully bezeled to a base of hand dyed Pellon, this piece is a show stopper! Tiny size 15/0 Rocailles, size 11/0 seed beads in various colors, Bugle beads, Brown Goldstone beads, Freshwater Pearls, Swarovski Crystals, Antiqued Brass beads and Dangles all com together to complete this One-Of-A-Kind neck piece. The pieces is back with silky soft Ultra-suede for comfort.

Seafoam Beaded Bead Necklace

My offering for today is the result of an experiment in a beaded bead. It all started with the central bead that I was hoping to use in my Beading-For-A-Cure piece this year but ultimately chose not to use. Then this lovely bead sat on my beading bench for a while as I pondered how I would use it. The result of all my pondering is this simple yet eye catching necklace. The beaded beads are painted wooden beads that are sealed with a clear sealer and then beaded around with size 15/0 Rocaille beads. The central bead has other seed beads in sizes 11/0, 10/0 and 8/0 in addition to Swarovski Crystal bicones. To add a bit of shine, four Sterling Silver round beads were strung on the Sterling Silver ball chain. This piece is 17.5 inches in length including the clasp.

Amethystium Necklace

This necklace is my first foray into the world of semi-precious slabs. The are usually either wire wrapped or a bail is added to hang the slab from a chain, but I decided to try something a little different. I used Silver Delicas and tiny size 13/0 Charlottes to bezel this treated Amethyst Slab in Peyote Stitch and then embellished the bezel with Amethyst chips and a few Swarovski Crystals to give it a little bit of sparkle. I also made the bail using the same Delicas and Peyote stitch. The chain the this pendant hangs from is Sterling Silver and is 18.5 inches in length including the clasp.
