Atalaya is in Huntington Beach State Park and is full of history. Archer Huntington, the son of the transportation magnate Collis P. Huntington,<br />and wife Anna Hyatt Huntington, noted sculptress built Atalaya Castle during 1931-1933.<br />Mr. Huntington was a noted authority on Spanish history. He designed the home from memory after the Moorish architecture of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast. Atalaya is a Spanish term for watchtower.<br /><br />Entering Atalaya along with The Broken Oak and The Pawleys Chapel grace the walls at the Waccamaw House Resort.<br /><br />As with many on my works, a large percentage of the profits from the sale of these prints go to charitable causes. Part to Martha's House and part to The Schuchman Medicine Fund at St Elizabeth Place. I was sexually abused for a long period of time. This is where I went afterwards. I sat on God's lap and He comforted me. I couldn't understand why He didn't make it stop or why it was happening to me, but that didn't matter when I was sitting in His lap. Not only did He give me hope, He gave me much more. He gave me this gift to paint. He gave me the knowledge, years before I would become a Christian, of hope and forgiveness. The one ray of light signifies where His light is there can be no darkness 1 John 1:5. I used crackling medium, molding paste, stains and sealers, cut my own stencils and applied in layers to create the relief texture. I also applied acrylic colors randomly for a bit of bright color. This was a wonderful experience into the unknown. I have never heard anyone call this special tree "The Broken Oak", but it's possible it has been. After all it appears a branch had broken, and rooted itself again to grow the way it looks in the paintings. It stands majestically at the entrance of The Litchfield Beach Resort at the Waccamaw House. Today it has started showing it's age, but I know the wonderful life it has had so far. It's not uncommon to see parents taking pictures of their children playing on it's branches, or a wedding party dressing it up (as if it could any more than it natural beauty).<br /><br />The Broken Oak along with Entering Atalaya and The Pawleys Chapel grace the walls at the Waccamaw House Resort.<br /><br />As with many on my works, a large percentage of the profits from the sale of these prints go to charitable causes. With European colonization, George Pawley was an early settler, giving his name to the community. The church (known as The Chapel to residents and vacationers at Pawleys Island) is built in the historic district of the island. The Chapel stands on marshland donated by Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Porter. Originally built in Georgetown, the building was home to the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Atalaya is in Huntington Beach State Park and is full of history. Archer Huntington, the son of the transportation magnate Collis P. Huntington,<br />and wife Anna Hyatt Huntington, noted sculptress built Atalaya Castle during 1931-1933.<br />Mr. Huntington was a noted authority on Spanish history. He designed the home from memory after the Moorish architecture of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast.
