I have always liked color and shapes in my paintings. I wanted to translate abstract themes to my matchstick paintings. You can't see from the pictures but, some of the shapes have two layers. I tried different techniques with this piece. To get a real feel for this piece you have to see it for real.

This painting is 30"x23.5" it is designed to hang without a frame.

I wanted to explore all aspects of art. This matchstick painting is my version of the classic still life. My artistic leanings tend to go toward the abstract. So I thought why not make an abstract still life painting. Doing it with matchsticks was a little bit harder than I thought, it took many hours but it was worth it.

The painting is 33"x24" if you like still life paintings, but want something interesting, this is for you.

My medium may not be just paint, but his influence in my art is profound.

As an artist nature is a never ending source of inspiration.
I was looking to paint an animal for a long time. I am always looking to push myself and my art. I have always thought butterflies were beautiful, but I didn't know if I could translate that to my matchstick art form.

I chose the monarch because it is one of the most recognizable butterflies. The complex patterns were a challenge, but the end result speak for itself.

It is 18"x22" It is designed not to have a frame.

This is a matchstick painting of our president Obama.
I wanted to push myself in this new medium I invented for myself. This was about the same time when Obama won the election. I wanted to do someone that everyone would recognize. So who better than our president.

I think you can find beauty just about anywhere you look.
There is no question that swords are beautiful. I like exploring the obvious conflict between something that is beautiful yet meant to kill a human being. I wanted to put the sword and the gun together,because even though they are very different, they are meant to do the same thing.

This piece is done with painted matchsticks glued on a wood panel. The blade is made with foil wrapped around the matchstick. It is 17"x40" long. I made it without any other designs. I think the stark nature adds to the power of the painting.
