The print is from an original painting of my many sketches of Golden Gate Park's succulent garden when I lived in San Francisco from 1997-2001. I worked on this painting from 2001-2006.

Echium are tall spiky blue flowers of the Borage family that grow in the Succulent Garden of The Strybing Arboretum in Golden Gate Park. They can reach 6 feet high and attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Originally from the Canary Islands and Madera, they are now naturalized along the coast of northern CA. I found them other worldly and to be wonderful subjects.

This is another painting from my many sketches of local arboretums. Chanticleer Arboretum in Wayne, not far from me in southeastern PA. Chanticleer was the estate of Christine and Adolph Rosengarten, Sr. Mr. Rosengarten was head of the pharmaceutical company Rosengarten and Sons. Their son left the property to the public and it opened to visitors in 1993. Tens of thousands of bulbs clothe the ground in spring, followed by orchards of flowering trees with native wildflowers blooming in the woods. It is truly a spectacular sight in the spring.

I planted 3 peony bushes a few years ago and they bloom every spring in late May. The weight of their huge flowerheads causes them to fall over themselves and the blowsy, luscious flowers have a wonderful scent. I never tire of painting them.

I also plant antique roses wherever I live, and have about 6 hardy plants scattered throughout my gardens and near my house. I find flowers mixed in with vegetables a lovely sight and the bees appreciate it too.

Original woodcut, hand-pulled and hand watercolored print that I created in 1978 before I began working as a printmaker for an Atlanta studio. I hand watercolored it after it was pulled. At the time I was researching Art Nouveau and German expressionist work, stylistically these woodcuts are reminiscent of both genres.
The edition was limited to 150 and I have about 4 or 5 left.

This print was created as one of a series of two tree 'portraits'. If these are bought together, I'll offer a 10% discount.

The image size measures 16" by 12" and was printed on a larger piece of Rives paper, most around 22" by 15".

Please specify whether you would like a gray or buff background paper. This print will be rolled and shipped in a tube.

Back in 1977 I was selling offset limited edition prints from pen and ink drawings of flowers. I researched many styles of botanical prints at the time and came up with a series of four flower images.
I then handcolored them with Dr. Martin's dyes, which hold up remarkably well without any fading. There is a companion flower print to this called Cyclamen.

This is a Brazilian blue Amaryllis, which is a rare specimen.

These are labeled as artists proofs, signed and dated 1977 on the front.

The paper size is 13.5 inches by 11 inches, printed on Strathmore and is sold unframed and unmatted. (Sample photo is example only)

I began this painting from sketches of Golden Gate Park's succulent garden when I lived in San Francisco from 1997-2001. I worked on the painting in my garage there, and finished it two years later after my move to the midwest. It is one of my favorite works.

Original abstract oil painting. I've been going out to local farms for an internship program I coordinate and am always struck by the abundance of food and produce. So this painting has some basis in the concept of fruitful fields.

I also listen to jazz or classical music while I paint and this was conceived while listening to 'Smile' by Brad Mehldau from his 2004 'Anything Goes' CD.
Originally written by Charlie Chaplin in 1936 for his film Modern Times, this song has become a popular standard. Mehldau interprets the 'spiritual breakthrough*' that Chaplin wrote about during the depression, but it's never sappy or maudlin.

Original abstract landscape from my stay on Galiano Island in 2006. I could paint from the front deck and this piece was done in the very early morning. I began the series in acrylic and finished recently in oil. The small dark strips of land you see are the Ballingall Islets in the Trincomali Channel.

The island itself is a mix of urban and wild. There's a wonderful little health food store and cafe, one good restaurant and some of the villagers roam the mountains searching for wild mushrooms.
