Maternal Tree of Life with Jade

I combine the Tree of life inspiration with a Mother's Day theme and I came up with this. I have the mother image as the tree with her long hair as the branches. She is holding an infant and comforting an older child at the same time.
The sterling silver work is called piercing, meaning sections of the silver are cut out to show negative space.
Here the space exposed is Chinese Jade, a flat piece 1/8th inch thick.
1 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" long
This piece is available with EITHER a 20" sterling chain OR a Rubber cord with sterling end caps and clasp.
As you can see, the back is cut out to show the jade.
The jade has a marbled effect with several shades of green as well as cream and tans.
The top section and the back are held together with rivets and the loop at the top are for the cord or chain.

I have been making these earrings for as long as I can remember. I use the tiniest of saw blades to cut these out and they are always a hit. This technique is called piercing work. Highly polished sterling silver with the ear wire soldered so they sit very high on the earlobe gives a classic look.
Delicately cut out flowers look like bells or Lilly of the valley.

My new find! Aqua Terra impression Jasper. I love the marbling in this stone. The softness of the jade color with the beige marbling go so well together. The stone has a mat finish and is 40mm x 20mm (1 1/2" long). I combined the jasper with an earring that I "recycled" by re-configuring it. This mohair scarf is from my local sheep farmers in the Hudson Valley. A wonderful variegated yarn going from a rich brown to orange and rust to a cream color. This will work well over a turtleneck for day wear or with a coat to keep you very warm.
I put a little eyelash yarn in here and there. This is 51” long and 5” wide. Hand wash and lay out to dry.

This wool scarf is surprisingly soft. It measures 50" x 6"
and is a combination of rich browns and solt cream/canel colors. Its warm but light and looks great on a brown, rust, camel or white coat. This is my loop design-pull the end thru a loop instead of a tie. This is less bulky and is nice for off the shoulder look. It's crocheted with a combination stitch for interest and bring out the interesting texture of this yarn.

Fur felt hat

Fur felt is amazing to work with. The texture of it is so plush and supple. This is a nice camel color hat to wear with a beige, brown or red coat. An antique bakelite button dresses this up just right, making this a hat that can be worn on a fancy occasion or a more casual outing. Fur felt is warmer than wool felt. It will arrive in a nice hat box ready to wear. The size is medium large. In the photo it fits me. Using a tape measure if your head measures 21" 2" above the ear it should fit you. The brim measures 4” front and back and 3” on the sides.

Chinese scrimshaw on bone

I believe the scrimshaw is of fish but I'm not sure. One done in red and the other in black. This looks like an old piece of bone to me, (a very Ivory look) to the coloration.
I combined the donut with carved turquoise and red cinnabar. The small red beads are coral and the brownish are jasper. The clasp, wire holding the bone and the 2 beads between the turq. and cinnabar are all gold filled.
18" long
bone donut is 1 1/8" dia.
Cinnabar are 15mm
Coral are 2mm
Scrimshaw is on both sides. The last photo is the back side.
Special requests for this will be considered- like the carving sold separately, a longer necklace etc.etc.
If you know more about this scrimshaw please let me know...
I bought it years ago and and only reciently put it into a necklace. Thanks for looking.

Well the star is swinging on a hoop. Anyway....Argentium sterling 3/4" hoop are made unique with my five pointed star dangling at the bottom.
Argentium sterling does not tarnish which is great news in the sterling world!

Scrimshaw turquoise and pearl necklace

This necklace has lots of elements that look great together.
The centerpiece is bone with scrimshaw of flowers that look like orchids. I scattered carnelian together with Chinese turquoise accenting freshwater pearls. The length can be adjusted between 17” and 18”on the sterling chain. The bone measures 1 1/4 x 11/16” and has a different scrimshaw in the back. This is an old bead I found in my travels and has a very nice patina. A few sterling beads are thrown in as well.

I love these colorful cluster earring. I think of color dancing on your ears.
I do them in several color combinations. These have two shades of green, a lime and a "bottle-green" or "apple-green color along with a large copper tear drop and a few clear teardrop glass beads.
They are 1 3/4" long but I can make them shorter if you like.
The ear wire is sterling and the glass beads are dropping of a brass chain with sterling rings.

Arkville Engineer Print

This guy was the engineer of the train ride going through the Catskill Mountains near Arkville, NY. Its a lovely ride, great for the kids but the most memorable part of the day for me was this interesting looking gentlemen driving this huge engine pulling this small group of cars carrying tourists through the woods. This man had such wonderful character and the whole composition was calling me to paint it. I did do this portrait from a photo that my husband, Frank Stella took on that day. It had been on my mind for years to paint it and finally I got to it.

I also love the colors in this with the light blue train and the yellow lettering. This looks even better in person!!!

Argonite is the color of the Caribbean Sea. I combined these lovely gems with a gunmetal color chain. The argonite look like droplets of water scattered on the chain.
The center bead is a large teardrop stone measuring 11mm x 15mm. The chain is 16" and with the drop it measures 18 1/2" long. The green and the dark are dynamic together. You'll love it.

This Velour felt hat is lush, warm and striking. Hand blocking is one of the most fun things I have ever done. The felt is so pliable when steamed that the possibilities are endless. Black with brown in the band.
This hat is a medium large size, has a full brim measuring 4"to 4 1/4" all around.
In the photo it fits me. Using a tape measure if your head measures 21" 2" above the ear it should fit you.
The band is made up of black with brown felt threaded into it and finished off with a very unusual wooden button.

This unique unisex bracket would make anybody happy. A heavy looking bracket made of thick sterling tubing and heavy cable chain.A bangle and chain bracket combined. I did an interesting wire wrap on the ends of the tubing and finished it with a spring hook clasp.
This was photographed on my "beautiful" wrist which is 6". So anyone with a 6" to a 7" wrist this would work fine.
By adding a couple more rings on the chain I could make this larger. Let me know....

This is a nice heavy sterling ring with a beautiful lab grown sapphire and a natural garnet.
I chose this sapphire to keep the cost reasonable. Lab grown stones have all the characteristics of a natural stone but available to us hundreds of years sooner and it cuts down on invasive mining. It measures 8mm and the garnet is 3mm.
I love the way the curve hugs the stones and sets off the sapphire so dynamically.

I love to do this kind of work and the more detail the better!!!
My Tree of life ring is by best seller so I thought I should offer you a pendent and eventually earrings.
The piercing work will be slightly different on each one since they are cut out using a jewelers saw blade individually. The edges are slightly irregular and the final piece has a satin finish.My design is full of detail with branches, leaves and texture. I had to include the ever important roots where everything starts....
