L. Trouvelot. Nice patina. Sufficient margin all around for framing.
1897 Antique Engraving of Camels

$14.00
An antique, back-to-back plate of various kinds of camels for your next trip to the desert. If you ever visit Giza to see the pyramids, you will most likely have to ride these animals, which is not a bad thing. Just remember that once you've gotten on the camel's back, it will start to straighten its legs, and will go up, and up, and up, until it feels like you're 10 feet off the ground. And then it starts to walk and has a very uneven gait. So you feel like you're about to be thrown off with each step. You hold on to dear life (or in this case, to dear camel), and try to remember that the camel does this hundreds of times a day.

The plate is gleaned from a German book published in 1897. The third and fourth photos show both sides of the plate.

As with all the plates and prints from this book, the illustrations are razor-sharp and well-defined. The plate has a nice patina. It is in very good condition.

For hundreds of other engravings, click on:
http://www.etsy.com/search_results_shop.php?search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_6767040&search_query=engraving

This is an original plate, not a reproduction! It is in very good condition.

As with all the plates and prints from this book, the illustrations are razor-sharp and well-defined. The plate has a nice patina. The last two photos show both sides of the plate.

For more engravings, click on:
http://www.etsy.com/search_results_shop.php?search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_6767040&search_query=engraving

Sent to you flat, in an acid-free sleeve with sturdy backing.

Size: approx. 6" x 9.5"

Read shop announcement for details.

-------------------

Have you got a large empty wall? Live in a loft? If so, we've got a very large beautiful map for you.

A very detailed map that will help you trace your next trip to the land of tulips, exotic coffee houses with strange names (!) and fietser (bikes) galore. This map comes from The Victory Atlas of the World, published by "Geographia", 55 Fleet Street, London. The cartographer is Alexander Gross. The year of publication is not indicated, as many early British publishers are quite notorious for not indicating the year of publication. However, studious research (and by that, I mean the Internet) indicates that all other venerable sellers of this map and atlas have indicated 1920 as the year of publication. Because of the sheer size, later editions of this map sell elsewhere for $50-$75.

This 89-year-old map is in very good condition and is blank on the back. It will look gorgeous framed as is or with a mat.

If you are looking for a map of a particular country in this size, let me know and I will put it up for you if I still have it.

For all things Dutch, click on:
http://www.etsy.com/search_results_shop.php?search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_6767040&search_query=netherlands

Please note that I have thousands of affordable antique maps. They are well-priced, considering their rarity and historical value. If there is a particular map you are looking for, let me know and I will put it up on this site and reserve it for you for five days. You are under no obligation to buy it. I will simply remove the "reserve sign" if you do not wish to purchase it.

The map will be sent to you folded as issued, in an acid-free sleeve with sturdy backing or rolled in a tube.

Size of sheet: 25.5" x 20"
1879 Large Very Rare Antique Religious Illuminated Chromolithograph Title Page of Lida de la Virgen Maria Featuring Cherubs and a Snake

$40.00
This is a genuine antique religious chromolithograph of the title page of the large, rare book, Vida de la Virgen Maria, by Vicente de la Fuente, printed in 1879 by Montaner y Simon. The book itself was not in good condition, but the chromolithographs were surprisingly in good shape.

The title page, with sweet little cherubs, is visually stunning and illuminated with gold and silver. Beautiful as the photos are, the chromolithograph looks even better in the original. The colours are deep and rich, and the image itself has a certain light sheen and texture. It is printed on thick paper, like cardstock, and has no printing on the reverse. Margins on the side as per photo. The chromolithograph has a water stain at the top, outside of the image (see photo), which can easily be hidden by matting or even cut off. Also one or two light spots on the margin. The chromolithograph is otherwise in very good condition.

Underneath the chromolithograph, it says "imp. vda Labiella Barcelona" on the left. The lithographer is R. Rocabert.

This would look very beautiful framed and would make for a very special gift.

Size of print: approx. 10.25w" x 14.5h"
Size of image: approx. 8.5"w x 12"h

Shipped to you very carefully packaged.
