Turquoise and Silver Oval Bold Necklace by Markhed

All of the components of this pendant are handmade by me. I've been silversmithing for four years now, and the repetitive act of working silver into a beautiful piece is extremely meditative for me. This thick silver wire is shaped into an oval first, then sanded down to satiny finish, the piece which delicately connects the fine silver chain with the larger oval was made second and flattened on one side in order to increase the comfort for the wearer.

Finally real silver wire is used to wrap to layers of real turquoise chips along the bottom side of the oval pendant, encrusting the pendant with a striking colour and beauty.

Dimensions:

the oval is: 2.5" long by 1.75" wide

The chain: can be as long or as short as you would like. Right now I have it just about the chest which measures 17" around.

This is a large franken heart 1 3/4" long from top of one heart lobe to bottom point. I'm planning on making more smaller franken hearts in time for valentines so stay tuned! cut out by hand and sewn up by hand too! hammerede and oxidized to give that dark "abused" look.

Tribal Necklace - Oxidized Silver and Bronze Fresh Water Pearls by Markhed

This is a bold necklace, for those who want to make a statement! A silver rectangular wire is heated and bent, then drilled into with 11 holes. Silver wires are heated to create a ball at one end to prevent the wire from falling through the holes drilled through the rectangular wire. Freshwater pearls are then place on the wires and the ends of the wires are hammered to prevent the pearls from slipping off.

The necklace was inspired by a tribal theme, getting back to the organic feel of jewelry, when it was a mirror of the nature around us all, to ornament our bodies.

These pendants are 1.5"x1.5" made of an old postcard image from the expos 67 or a montreal map placed on translucency film and placd between two pieces of light and thin glass. The edges are then soldered in the same way that stained glass is soldered, however, unlike stained glass, the solder is made of pure silver, thus it is safe to wear on the skin!
