PERSISTENCE BREEDS FAMILIARITY Fine Art Print

$13.00
This is another print from my series "A Pattern, A Process, A Price," which is inspired by my flea market find of a woman's home economics scrapbooks from the 1940's. I based my drawings of woman's hand on something I read in an essay that she wrote. Her essay was about the three things she wanted to accomplish that year, and one of them was to have smoother, softer hands and "glamour-length fingernails."

To find out what her other two goals were, purchase the print, and I'll include a xerox of her original hand written essay as an added bonus!

I adapted this essay and some of the text found within the scrapbooks to create this little print, and the original work was made by layering silkscreen prints on top of a monoprint (oil painting on glass transferred to paper) background.

The image measures 5" x 5", printed onto 8" x 10" heavy high-quality, archival matte photo stock (thick and bright white) and will come to you sandwiched between cardboard so that it will stay flat. It was professionally printed in a print shop, and there is a 1.5" white border on each side of the image, a 2" border on top of the image, and a 3" border at the bottom of the image.

Signed by the artist and shipped flat between cardboard.

She is made from a 5" x 7" oval shaped canvas painted with acrylics, and her hair is super soft 100% baby alpaca roving (the kind that hand spinners use when making yarn) made into a wig and attached to the canvas. The entire piece measures about 6" x 8" and is signed by the artist and ready for hanging.

Thanks for looking!
COMMITTING AND CONFIDING Original Art Lithograph

$14.00
I found a marriage certificate from the 1800's for sale at a flea market a little while ago, and I was so surprised that somethng so personal and important could just end up being for sale in a makeshift booth...I had to purchase the certificate and recreate it in this lithograph. I drew what I imagined the couple to look like, and the piece turned out very layered and mysterious.

"Committing and Confiding" is an original hand drawn and hand printed stone lithograph. It is printed on thin and beautiful Japanese rice paper and measures 10" x 6.5" wide. There are only 8 prints in this small edition, and this is number 5 out of 8. It will ship flat between cardboard, and it's ready to be framed!

ABOUT THE PROCESS:
Lithography is one of the tricker forms of printmaking (and artmaking...) that exists! You have to carry around heavy limestone tablets which you then grain at a special sink using tiny pieces of sand to wear away and smooth out the surface of the stone. Then you draw your image with a grease pencil, and you can work both additively and subtractively - drawing on then carving off your lines - until you get a perfect image. You do several etching processes using acid and water, but I would need my litho handbook to tell you more about those in detail - it gets confusing... Then you cross your fingers and roll your image up with ink, hoping that you etched it correctly and end up seeing your drawing and not some large black blob. The plus side is that a stone lithograph pulled by hand is as rich and nuanced (if not more) as a charcoal drawing, and you can make multiple prints of your drawing from a single stone image.

This print is special because the edition is so small, and this (along with the two or three other lithos also up for sale) is probably one of the last lithographs I'll ever make - in part because I really didn't enjoy the process, and due to the fact that the process is *so* toxic, and it makes me sick to think of all the dangerous chemicals I inhaled while making this! But I guess if I have to risk my health for something, it should be art...right?

The plus side is that a stone lithograph pulled by hand is as rich and nuanced (if not more) as a charcoal drawing, and you can make multiple prints of your drawing from a single stone image.

This print is special because the edition is so small, and this (along with the two or three other lithos also up for sale) is probably one of the last lithographs I'll ever make - in part because I really didn't enjoy the process, and due to the fact that the process is *so* toxic, and it makes me sick to think of all the dangerous chemicals I inhaled while making this! But I guess if I have to risk my health for something, it should be art...right? ;)
CRITICAL GROOMING Fine Art Print

$13.00
I found a woman's home economics scrapbooks from the 1940's, and I based my drawings of woman's hand on something I read in an essay that she wrote. Her essay was about the three things she wanted to accomplish that year, and one of them was to have smoother, softer hands...

Signed and shipped flat between cardboard.

She is ready to sit upon your favorite shelf and loves to do jigsaw puzzles and chat on the telephone!

This little bird stands 2.5" long and 1.5" tall.

You will get one of the two birds shown in the photos. Please specify if you'd like the bird on the right or the left in the first photo, or I will choose one for you.

Thanks for looking! :)

The original also has a chain stitch decoration that mimics a stitch sample sheet I found within the book.

The image measures 5" x 5", printed onto 8" x 10" heavy matte photo stock (thick and bright white) and will come to you sandwiched between cardboard so that it will stay flat.
