“moving faster than…” is a process work. Sometimes when I start a day of painting I like to do a few warm-up paintings just to loosen up. This particular painting was created working quickly through layering, wiping away, adding a few drops of alcohol to really remove a spot or two and continuing to swipe a few streaks for depth and texture. I was really exploring what the paint was capable of. The finished image has a movement to it that evokes a blur from something speeding by.

“single wavelength” is a process study. Working in black and white allows me to experiment with the paint and focus on textures over colors. The surface of the paper is primed with a gesso and coated all over with a single layer of black. Using alcohol as a resist, patterns emerge and allow me to take some of the darkness away. I continue to work quickly to develop the pattern and surface that I am aiming for. The silver highlighted lines are added after all the paint has dried. I love the spark that the silver adds to the black and white.
