This piece was inspired by two things , a little jointed bisque doll and a VERY tattered peach silk bodice from a C1860's dress that I found at an estate sale .

The background of the collage on canvas is a petit point pattern of a pheasant from a Godeys Woman's Book C 1870 . I layered paints randomly then added fragments of antique lace . More paints added and then antiqued . I added a picture of a Victorian girl from a old Victorian Christmas card , a photograph of a baby ,and fragments of an old tapestry . The centerpiece ...I think ...is the doll .... I have dressed her in the silk dress fragments and lace . She is attached to tapestry that is inserted in a Victorian pressed metal frame . I also made a collar for the girl and roses for the baby all from pieces of the silk . There is gold thread and glass beaded trim added that came off the dress bodice .... very special trim ! Further embellished with old skeleton keys , buttons , glass prism , clasp from Victorian photo album , locket with old photo added , pieces of broken rhinestone jewelry , and pressed metal leaves taken from a very old metal frame . The panel is backed with an old sheet music cover .

This charming , summery shadowbox was inspired from a C. 1890 children's book cover that I had been saving .
I cut the cover to fit on the inside of an old wooden box . The box was first covered in old sheet music , painted , waxed and distressed . I handpainted a few sunflowers on the one side . Around the sides I added a cloth tape measure and antique small checkers . The inside has a VERY special vintage bisque doll , a chalkware sheep , old game letters , and a disassembled metal watering can / flower brooch !

Measures 5" x 10 " . Stands by itself .

This is an altered and embellished vintage book about Buffalo Bill . I have used vintage sheet music ( Home On The Range and When The Sun Goes Down On The Range ) , an old map of Texas fragment and laser copies of 3 of my old cowboy postcards . I have added layers of paints and distressing . It was embellished with 2 old metal cowboys lassoed on with leather gimp , a toy gun , scrabble tiles , leather belting and a metal buffalo . This was an extremely fun assemblage to make ! I had a broken German bisque doll head and torso that I have transformed into a fairy in a nest . I added clay eyes and dressed her in antique lace and paper wings . Her hat is an old brooch ! Her little baby is another broken bisque antique doll that I have " saved " and he is shown coming out of his shell . To the natural woven nest I have sewn and glued a MULTITUDE of small old objects and whimsies ..... game pieces , spools , keys , bits of jewelry , buttons , toys , lace , trims , prisms ,ephemera , and so much more ... its fun to just look and see what you can find . It has been spray sealed . It is approx 8" wide and 8 " tall . Signed on bottom .

This shadowbox was inspired by a vintage potholder I found in a bag of vintage linens , it is shaped like a mans shirt with an appliqued tie and embroidered details !

The background of the vintage wooden cigar box (that has been layered with paint , crackled and distressed ) has a background of a vintage road map . I added the potholder and then had fun adding lots of stuff .....an old tintype photo , many old game pieces ( dice , poker chip , domino, ) parts of an old starched oxford cloth shirt cuff , and button cards with young men pictured on them . Hanging from the edge are old keys , lock , aspirin tin ( with photo inside ) & an old advertising bottle opener . I added Scrabble tiles and holder for the title and trimmed the sides with very old game pieces . A cutout real photograph of a young man was added and highlighted in red .

It measures 7.5 " x 9.5" x 2 " .

This is a beautiful shadowbox that was inspired by a mournful piece of Victorian sheet music called " A Lonely Grave By The Sea " All in creamy white , black and gold .

I have woven a bit of a story about the life of a beautiful woman named " Miss Bettie Montgomery Of Louisville KY " . It reminds me of a memory box , holding the bits and pieces of someones life .

The box has been covered with layers of old sheet music , illustrations from Victorian magazines , old letter fragments ( as old as 1828 ) , small illustrations from Godey's Ladies Fashion pages , lace and layers of paint . Objects in the box include a an old gold painted metal arch frame part ( that becomes a portal to a bucolic seaside scene with a lone grave ) , a bisque doll , an old plaster cow , a glass heart shape mirror with most of the backing off of it so you can see the pretty face through it . Lots of old buttons , skeleton key , prism , handmade fabric roses , and trimming out the edges of the box and added the leaf decorations came from a very old broken metal frame that I disassembled ! The back of the box has one old metal adornment . I can say that ALL the elements of the box are at least 80- 100 years old except for the paint !

Signed and dated . 15 " wide , 9 " tall . Please note that the box does not close all the way and is intended to be in an open position .

This is a piece I did for this weeks Melange Team Challenge . I loved this illustration of fairies from a Victorian book I own so I made a laser copy and used it as part of my background . The canvas behind the fairies has layers of paints and gesso . I added old sheet music about airy fairies and fairy bells ! Butterfly illustrations from an old science book were hand colored and then cutout . The nude Queen Fairy is a copy of a postcard from my personal collection and she has wings added as well as a fairy crown . The crown is adorned with pink rhinestones and she is holding some lovely jeweled " flowers " from old earrings . I have embellished with some vintage crocheted flowers , a skeleton key , a metal crown , an old prism , glass button and an optical lens for viewing the tiny fairies ! Beautiful shades of pinks , greens and cream .Finished on the back in decorative paper . A hanger can be added if desired . 8" X 10" X 1" . Signed and dated .

This was a little collage I made the other day while pondering a few " bigger " ideas ! I love her !

I added some pieces of antique lace to the canvas panel that I had painted purple and flecked with mica flakes . The lace was dry brushed with a few layers of paint .I added a piece of sheet music that I edged with ribbon and distressed with paint . I found a beauty of a photo of a dark haired girl and added a " crown " to her and surrounded her with daisies cut from a Victorian postcard . A little red bird is perched on a earring flower . The words came from sheet music . A key hanging from a cord was added as a final touch as well as an additional sprinkling of old mica flakes .

This was something I came up with for my Melange Team Challenge for the word prompt SERENDIPITY !

I had this old artists palette for a long time ... I never knew why I picked it up at a yard sale but here I am using it in a fun creative way !

I used an old photograph of a serious looking man , a copy of the front of one of my Victorian books , part of a " big woman little man " postcard , and old advertisements from early magazines . Some additional paint , distressing and antiquing brought it all together . The old Rexall Laxative tin holds a surprise mini assemblage inside . It holds an antique tintype photograph of a group of guys . A illustration from a book , skeleton key , buttons , and a magnified button with a pledge inside about obeying your parents and about " unclean " thinking !!!

Trimmed in parts of an old leather belt . The back has a fragment of old sheet music of the song " Thats Where All My Money Goes "

This sweet collage " stars " my favorite baby photograph... I usually use originals in my pieces but this is a copy , she is too sweet to only use once !

The panel is papered , painted and distressed . The cute pigs came from a magazine advertisement from the 1940's . Fragments of pages from a C. 1900 childs book with the nursery rhyme This Little Pig are added . I watercolor painted the babies dress and added a crown . Part of a kids loom became a fence . I trimmed the edges and accented the figures with a vintage cloth tape measure . Old yarn winds around some attached buttons . A old tassle is attached to the back and is embellished with a button and a bee pin .

This was a fun little collage to make !
I had a Circa 1860 book cover with beautifully designed paper already on the inside ... no need to do a thing to it . I added a cabinet card photograph of a man with his top hat in hand in which I altered the background . I added a tiny lithograph picture of a pretty woman whom I named Maggie . After adding a sheet music fragment I " framed " the photo with C1910 glass photography plate and old ribbon . The corners are accented with brass paper fasteners . The metal sunburst at the top is from an old embossed lid to Dennison's paper fasteners . The fun test tube has a song title rolled up and inserted ( I finally found a use for a stash of old test tubes ! )and then sewed onto the board . I attached a long old skeleton key to the tube . A Scrabble tile M for Maggie completed the piece . A spring was added as a hanger .
Measures 4.5" x 7 " .

Assemblage with a Indian Maiden meets Traveling Medicine Show theme ......It works for me !

The box is part of an old wooden jewelery box that has been layered with paint and old papers ( mostly from a 1905 Almanac with lots of advertising for " womans " problems of nervousness , debilities , weakness etc ! The main image is a pretty Indian maiden ( another old advertising piece ) . I have added lots of fun stuff ... .an old figure of an Indian girl with papoose , an old bottle that I have fashioned a new label for it from an ad for Dr Kings New Discovery for Consumption . The moon is a bakelite backgammon piece . There are old dominoes , keys , word dice , buttons , tintypes , wooden chess pieces , clay poker chip , scrabble tiles and even an old medicine dropper .

Another one of my fun little collages inside a vintage lab petri dish ! This one was inspired by an old postcard of a black and white cat . I joined the cat with a Victorian era photograph of a baby girl . The cat and baby girl are layered over antique lace and printed floral paper . All is accented with old buttons , postage stamp , flowers from a sweater and a bird earring. Saucy Pet was cut from a childrens book page . Vintage rick -rack is around the edge . 4" . Can be displayed with or without top . Can be used as a paperweight !

Another one of my embellished old lab bottles ! Lots going on I must say . Layers of papers and paints with images of a hand and brain and eye from an old medical book with other ephemera ! It is embellished with LOTS of stuff including a part of a pair of wire eyeglasses , watch parts , an Aladin's lamp charm , a castle charm , a key , ! Fibers around bottle are entwined with an old chain . Hanging stuff includes a key , 2 chandelier prisms , part of old eyeglasses , domino , and beads. Layers of buttons adorn the top . You can see the inside of the bottle and the ephemera includes insects and the word SPELL .

This piece was inspired by a song title " The Mansion Of Aching Hearts " and a great tintype photograph I had of a group of Victorian men and women lounging together .

An old book was covered with layers of paint . I added several transfers and torn images from old magazine advertisements . Also I used portions very old letters and sheet music . It is embellished with fun stuff ... on top is a great old cabinet latch with porcelain knob . Hanging from the latch is a old key , prism , and metal tag ... it does make a lovely little tinkling sound when touched ! I used a old tin top as a frame for the photograph . Further embellishments are old dominoes , game letter cubes , a clock arm part of a ruler , a BIG wooden M and a little pressed brass bird . Main colors are a very soft blue , sepia , black , brown . It stands 7 " tall . Signed and dated on inside front cover , all other pages sealed together .

Who should he choose ???
I made this shadowbox in an antique rusty , chippy painted metal cigar tin . The outside of the tin was left as is , just sealed . On the inside lid is a Victorian picture of two pretty girls , I edged the picture with strips of an antique wool paisley and accented the corners with old red buttons . The milk bottle top is an old one and I thought it a bit humorous that it says GUARANTEED PURE !

The inside background is a fragment of a handwritten 1857 letter . The photo is of the Victorian era . There is part of a wooden ruler , printers block , a old office stamp that I added the words ONLY ONE GIRL , a football shaped button , skeleton key and more red buttons . On the side is another key and a leather button hanging .

9" tall and 5 " wide . Stands on its own .

I took a photograph of a dapper man and painted and accented it with words from an old dictionary . A key and game tile were added . The photograph and the collage itself are " framed " with a vintage metal zipper . The back is covered with part of a Fortune magazine cover .

I figure you had to have worn a corset to have the TINY waists that I see in old Edwardian fashion advertisements !

The collage is layers of early 20Th C. magazine ads ... corsets , underwear , fashions etc . Layered over the paper and paint is fragments of VERY old lace and netting . The two fashionable women are from fashion ads that I handcolored . That pretty face peeking from the old metal frame is a copy of the front cover of one of my old books that I cherish . Accented with old trade cards , hanging old key , buttons , and additional tiny collages . Embellished with buttons , rhinestones , Scrabble tiles , keys , jewelry pieces , part of a metal cabinet knob becomes a lace " collar " and a metal curtain ring is added . It is all on a 12" square canvas . All sides are covered with papers , lace and vintage gimp trim . Back is covered with decorative paper .

I have added a vintage buckle "frame " , buttons , and LADY spelled with vintage Anagram tiles . It is trimmed around the edges with fragments of a colorful 40's hankie . Red , black & turquoise are the predominate colors . There is no hanger on the back ... it can be displayed on an easel , leaned , or could even be attached to a journal front .

This was a very old book I found titled Crushed Rose Leaves C.1881 . The cover was dilapidated although the pages are intact . I did not touch the pages so it is readable I have reinvented the cover with a layer of vintage fabric and then layers of papers , paint and distressing . The image of the cherub driving a car is a direct transfer onto silk from a copy of an antique postcard . The baby is an antique photo ( copy ) from my private collection . I have used old 19th c images from torn ephemera and 19th C magazines on the back and also an image transfer . Embellished with old lace , jewelery , buttons , trims and old mica . Mica sheet fragments were used for the " wings " on the baby and cherub . A chandelier crystal and old locket hang with ribbons and fibers . 4.5 x 7.5 Signed and dated .

I added several pages of bug illustrations from an old book , pages from a childrens book , and an old envelope from an Entomological Society .... perfect considering all the bugs ! The center piece " witch " is an altered old Victorian photograph with paint , papers , illustrations . I did gel transfers of a witch and lots of the bugs ... even transfers of bugs on the poker chips . It is embellished with dominoes , Victorian beaded fringe , a key , old ribbon , a pressed metal owl and JOL , an optical lens , a very old toy broom , and a wooden needle case ....
