"If I interlocked those leftover squares, it would look really cool," I thought, and I searched my stash for a background fabric to really highlight the bright orange, pink, and green shapes. As I laid the squares out on one mottled blue/green print, I had a moment of inspiration - the shapes looked exactly like toy diving rings on the bottom of a swimming pool!

This quilt features three brightly colored rings interlocked and appliqued atop a solid blue/green background fabric. The piece is echo quilted in lines about 1/2" apart, giving the effect of rippling water. The piece is bound in two layers of a bright yellow print, which brings the finishing touch to this watery work.

The bright front reverses to a solid white back, which shows off the brightly colored threads used in the quilting. While it's not meant to be truly reversible, you may find the pattern formed on the back is striking enough to show off, too.

This machine-pieced and machine-quilted table runner is about 14" wide by 33" long, and is made of quality cotton fabrics and batting. It has been machine washed and dried to bring out the texture in the quilting, and it should stand up to a reasonable amount of washing, so don't be afraid to actually USE it! This piece would also look nice on a wall, displayed as you would a banner or flag.

Linking Rings Table Runner Quilt - THIS IS THE QUILT LISTING

Own an original - the prototype quilt for my new "Linking Rings" table runner pattern!

This 13"x34" quilt was made using all cotton quilting fabrics and batting. The design features three square rings interlocked, calling to mind the old magician's trick of linking "solid" rings. The rings are a medium red, a butter gold, and a delft blue, on a black background that features small dots in each of those colors. Each ring is appliqued to the quilt using a coordinating thread in a satin stitch.

The double binding is sage green, and is mitered and machine sewn for durability.

The quilt reverses to a cream fabric with red, blue and yellow starbursts that match the colors of the rings. This quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted in an allover stipple. The quilting isn't very noticeable on the front, but it gives the quilt a lot of depth and texture.

This runner was made in my smoke-free, cat-friendly studio. It is machine washable and dryable. It can be used as a table runner, or displayed on a wall or draped over the back of a chair or sofa.

Please note: There is a slight flaw in the back of this quilt. When I basted the layers together, a little bit of the backing fabric got folded over across the width of the back. This fold was stitched in place when the quilt was appliqued and quilted, and it's not noticeable at all from the front. You can see it on the back, especially if you're looking for it, but it's not hideous or anything. I included a picture of part of it (photo 4) so you can judge for yourself if it's something you can live with.

The tail features an easy on-and-off elastic waist and is made from stretch panne velvet and satin that is speckled with glitter. The fin is lightly padded to help it maintain its shape, with ruffled trim along the trailing edge to give it a more organic look. Small clusters of scale-shaped stitching gives some additional texture to the body of the tail. It is completely reversible - the satin side gives more of a mermaid look, while the velvety side suggests a selkie. The standard length touches the ground by about 1" or so, but I can make them somewhat longer or shorter if you request this.

**** This tail is designed to be worn over a swimsuit, pair of shorts, leggings, or something else that covers whatever your modesty requires - it is NOT a standalone piece.

The tiara is made from the same glittered satin that appears in the tail, plus some interfacing and padding to help it maintain its shape. The tiara is held in place with two pieces of elastic, which means it's much less likely to slide off than flimsier ones with just one piece. Again, decorative stitching adds texture to the piece, and if I get really motivated (and you ask nicely) I can even add some fake jewels to one side to give it some bling.

These costume piece designs have been extensively play-tested by the adorable three-year-old, who has approved them for running, jumping, dancing, sleeping, eating, reading, and pretty much everything else she can think of.

**** BUT .... this costume is not suitable for use in the water - it is for imaginary play on land only. The costume can be hand washed and line dried, and will probably withstand a trip through the delicate cycle of your washing machine, but I haven't tested that myself.

These costumes are custom sewn for you in your choice of two colors - a hot pink similar to what you see on the model, and a seafoam blue/green that you see in the final picture. The exact pink is a little different from the model, thanks to a lack of supply at my local fabric store ... it's a similar color and sparkle factor, but the texture is sort of crinkly rather than completely smooth. It's still really cool ... and I'd be happy to convo you a picture if you'd like to see the exact fabric before you buy.

Additional colors may be available, depending on the supply of materials at my local fabric store, so feel free to convo me if you have a specific color combo in mind. Costumes in the standard colors will ship approximately one week after the order is received; special color requests may take longer.

I sew all parts of these costumes myself, finishing them with an eye to detail and durability. All seams are topsewn, all elastic is stitched in place at least twice, and I say a little prayer of sturdiness over each one before it ships.

As always, this comes to you from my smoke-free, cat-friendly studio. The cats hardly ever wear the costumes, but if you're violently allergic, you'd be better off buying a Disney one.

It's never too early to start your Christmas shopping!

Celebrate the holidays with a permanent reminder of just how little your little ones were this year. Adorable as holiday decorations this year, and a cherished keepsake when your children are older, these ornaments are an inexpensive way to commemorate the year that's passed. Plus, they make great gifts for the grandparents!

These custom ornaments feature an exact replica of your child's handprint, cut from felt and hand appliqued onto a diamond-shaped ornament with a ribbon hanger. Red and purple are my default color choices, but I'm happy to make this in any color combo you like (provided I can find the colors at my local fabric store). Just convo me to discuss color schemes.

After you purchase the ornament, I will contact you with my direct e-mail address. You can either trace out your child's hand on a piece of paper and send the tracing to me through the mail, or take a photo of the hand next to a ruler (so I can get the scale right when I print it out) and e-mail it to me. Either way, my turnaround time on these after receiving the tracing is about a week - usually less, but I can't guarantee that, so let's just say a week, shall we?

The ornament comes standard with "2008" hand stitched on the handprint. I can also include up to three initials, if you would like - just include that information in the "notes to seller" section when you check out.

We all know we're supposed to give newborns "tummy time" now that we're putting them on their backs to sleep ... but who wants spitup on the carpet and cat hair on the baby?

This quilt is perfect to protect baby (and your carpet) during tummy time, while offering interesting visual and tactile stimulation. We all know we're supposed to give newborns "tummy time" now that we're putting them on their backs to sleep ... but who wants spitup on the carpet and cat hair on the baby?

This quilt is perfect to protect baby (and your carpet) during tummy time, while offering interesting visual and tactile stimulation. Translation: It's about 35x30" (just the right size to tuck into your bag to bring with you when visiting friends), it features fabrics in the black/white/bright colors combination that's supposed to be good for newborn sight development, it's padded so that little hands and knees (and foreheads)get a break from hard floors, and there are bright cotton webbing ribbon loops for baby to play with on two sides of the quilt.

The print on this flannel features stripes of purple and black with various brightly colored monkeys on them. The flannel border is a purpley pink with lime green circles, and the quilt reverses to a quilter's cotton back that has wile stripes in lavender, lime green, hot ink, and red.

This quilt has a new feature - fussy quilting along the border in the shape of monkeys (or cats - it sorta looks like both ;) )! Subtle, but really cool.

It's 9" across at the bottom and 6 1/2" from crown to bottom when laid flat and not stretched at all. That fits my 3-year-old nicely, but it also stretches to fit my adult head (although it doesn't cover my ears), so chances are, it will fit your kid.

It's extra stretchy, so it stays close to your head without smushing your hair too badly.

This is a limited edition version of my usual mermaid costume. I found some really great shiny green scale-print fabric, bought all of it, and I'm dying to make it into mermaid tails. You send me the measurements, I make the mermaid tail and tiara just for you! This listing does NOT include the swimsuit, sunglasses, or adorable three-year-old ... you've got to supply those yourself.

The tail features an easy on-and-off elastic waist and is made from stretch panne velvet and a shiny green fabric with a scale pattern all over. The fin is lightly padded to help it maintain its shape, with ruffled trim along the trailing edge to give it a more organic look. Small clusters of scale-shaped stitching gives some additional texture to the body of the tail. It is completely reversible - the green side gives more of a mermaid look, while the velvety side suggests a selkie. The standard length touches the ground by about 1" or so, but I can make them somewhat longer or shorter if you request this.

**** This tail is designed to be worn over a swimsuit, pair of shorts, leggings, or something else that covers whatever your modesty requires - it is NOT a standalone piece.

The tiara is made from the same green scale fabric that appears in the tail, plus some interfacing and padding to help it maintain its shape. The tiara is held in place with two pieces of elastic, which means it's much less likely to slide off than flimsier ones with just one piece. Again, decorative stitching adds texture to the piece, and if I get really motivated (and you ask nicely) I can even add some fake jewels to one side to give it some bling.

These costume piece designs have been extensively play-tested by the adorable three-year-old, who has approved them for running, jumping, dancing, sleeping, eating, reading, and pretty much everything else she can think of.

**** BUT .... this costume is not suitable for use in the water - it is for imaginary play on land only. The costume can be hand washed and line dried, and will probably withstand a trip through the delicate cycle of your washing machine, but I haven't tested that myself.

These costumes are custom sewn for you in your choice of sizes. Costumes will ship approximately one week after the order is received. (Order by October 25 for Halloween use - I'm fast, but the USPS isn't sometimes)

I sew all parts of these costumes myself, finishing them with an eye to detail and durability. All seams are topsewn, all elastic is stitched in place at least twice, and I say a little prayer of sturdiness over each one before it ships.

As always, this comes to you from my smoke-free, cat-friendly studio. The cats hardly ever wear the costumes, but if you're violently allergic, you'd be better off buying a Disney one.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your (fake) hair!

My daughter has been on a princess kick for years. After blowing though obsessions with Cinderella, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty, she got stuck on Rapunzel for a while. And, of course, you can't be Rapunzel without the hair, right? So I whipped up a quick braid she could use during dress-up play, and it was so popular with her friends, I thought maybe some other little girls would like one, too.

Each braid is made by hand in my smoke-free, cat friendly studio. Each consists of yarn and ribbon, and is firmly attached to a ponytail holder in a coordinating color. Length varies depending on how tired my arm was when I measured out the yarn for that particular braid, but all of them are close to 3' long. That's long enough to look impressive but short enough that it's not (much of) a tripping hazard.

The braid is easy to use - just pull the little girl's hair back into a ponytail, then use the ponytail holder at the top of the braid to secure both the real hair and the braid. It looks best if you attach it so that the braid falls at the top of the pony (rather than underneath it).

Choose from three colors (as shown in photos)- Pastel Princess, Brunette, and Blonde. Please indicate in the "notes to seller" during checkout which color you prefer.

Custom colors and lengths are available, too - just convo me and we'll work out the details of a braid specifically for your child (or you!).

Sweet Hearts Quilt - 40x47 inches - great as a throw or wallhanging

This adorable quilt features squares of white, red, pink and lavender set against a white center. It is accented with a small heart-print fabric in the same colors (it reminds me of those "conversation hearts" you see at Valentine's Day). Each large corner block features a heart in a contrasting color which is raw-edge appliqued on top of the square.

Quilting was done with white thread, and the overall stippling on the center white square featres an occasional heart thrown in for fun.

The backing on this quilt is a natural cotton muslin, and the batting is 100% cotton as well.

This quilt is meant to be used! It is made from high-quality cotton quilting fabrics, and the machine quilting will take pretty much anything you can throw at it. The quilt is machine washable and dryable, and it's already been through the wash once on "HOT" to get the nice puckered texture and fluffy edges on the hearts. I have used similar quilts on my toddler's bed for two years now, and they've all held up remarkably well to the frequent washing and drying (and jumping and leaping and peek-a-boo).

My daughter loves to play with blocks (and Legos, and a ton of other toys with lots of small, sharp pieces), and the first thing she does when she starts to play is dump the whole container of blocks out all over the floor. And when she's done playing, she complains about having to pick up all those pieces.

In a fit of annoyance one day, I had her play with the blocks on a sheet that was waiting for the wash, and when she was done, I picked up the corners of the sheet and shoved the whole thing back into its box. Voila! Quickest cleanup ever!

Small pieces make a big impact in this faux-woven quilt, which gets fluffier and more touchable every time it’s washed. Sure, the pinning will make you a “basket case,” but you only have to sew 35 seams!

This quilt features raw-edge applique which is applied to look as if the strips are woven. A quick trip through the wash fluffs up the edges and softens the effect.

My daughter likes to ride the little rides inside the mall, and she always wants to carry her own change over to pay. But none of her kid purses zip shut, so the first time she'd swing her purse around (which was about 0.056 seconds after we got to the mall), quarters would go flying everywhere. It was an ugly, ugly sight.

That's why I made the first of these little zip bags, and it turned out so cute I thought other little (and not-so-little) girls might like them, too.

The bags are about 5" square, with the wrist strap adding about another 4" in overall length. That's big enough to hold a whole mess of change, or some crayons and a memo pad, or some toy cars, or a wallet and your keys, or whatever small doodads you might need to keep safely contained and readily at hand. The wrist strap fits easily over a child's hand (that's 3-year-old Lazy Kid modeling in the main photo), and it fits snugly over an adult's hand without any lubrication or loss of circulation.

Each bag is made from 100% cotton fabric, with a coordinating strap and lining. There are four colors available, as seen in the photos:

- Blue goldfish, with a yellow zipper, red goldfish strap, and yellow goldfish lining
- Yellow goldfish, with a red zipper, red goldfish strap, and blue goldfish lining

This bag is made from an allover nautical print that features compas roses, ley lines, astronomical symbols, etc. on a blue background. The pocket is a yellow batik. The bottom is sturdy quilted denim, and the drawstring straps are yellow nylon webbing.

This bag is about 9" across and about 15" tall. Straps form the drawstring and can also be used to wear the bag like a small backpack. All of the seams that are likely to be stressed are double-sewn. While it can support a lot of weight, it isn't meant to be a bowling bag.

This beanie is handknit from a durable synthetic yarn, which is variegated in shades of white, tan, slate blue, and moss green. It features a rolled brim, an overall textured knit stitch which is super stretchy, and a fun tassel on the top (which can easily be snipped off if it's a little too frivolous for your tastes - see what that looks like in the last photo).

This beanie is pretty stretchy and will adjust to accommodate just about any adult size head. It's 10" across when unstretched, and about 6" deep. The tassel is about 4" long.

The ends on this have been securely woven in, and the tassel is attached firmly, so it should be machine washable and dryable. The tassel may start to look a little ratty after multiple washings, so I recommend hand washing if possible (or just trimming the tassel off when it looks too bad).

My daughter is three. She loves the idea of mittens, but she inevitably pulls one or both of them off so she can pick up random pieces of stuff ... and, of course, that means she loses mittens on a regular basis. I crocheted this hat at the end of last winter, and while I've forgotten most of the details about the exact yarn I used, I do know that it looks cool and will keep your head warm.

The main part of the hat is black, and the folded-up (and tacked down, but that's easy to remove) cuff features a design of red triangles with a red band at the top of the cuff. Kinda minimalist, kinda modern, kinda tribal - but definitely one of a kind.

The hat measures about 9" across when folded in half, and is about 6" tall. It's too small to fit on my head, which is sort of normal adult size, so it's probably best suited to a petite woman, or a medium-to-large youth.

This item was made and stored in my smoke-free but cat-friendly studio. Don't worry - it's stored away from the cats, and they don't like hats, anyway, so you're not going to get more than one or two bonus cat hairs per hat.

Mmmmm - strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla, all topped off with three fountains of swirled ice creamy goodness! Or at least that's what it looks like to me.

This hat is handknit in a perl stitch, which gives an interesting stripey effect to the variegated acrylic yarn. It features a ribbed band around the bottom, and it's sewn into three points at the top, each of which is topped by a tassel.

This hat measures 6" tall (not including the height of the tassels) and 7" across when laid flat and not stretched. It's super-stretchy, though - it's shown on an adult-sized mannequin in the photos - so it should work for an older child, teen, or small adult.

Ginkgo leaf quilted pillow with removeable cover - OOAK

Inspired by some Asian prints I found in Amish country, and a bunch of ginkgo jewelry I wanted for Christmas but didn't get a chance to buy before someone else snatched them up, I created this one of a kind quilted pillow.

The front features small polka dots of teal, brown, gold, olive and red on a cream background. The appliqued ginkgo leaf (modeled on a real leaf, btw, not just something I made up) features an interlocking circle motif in cream on a mottled blue/green/gold background. And the back features a salmon fabric with a stylized blue, pink, olive and gold leaf design.

The front is quilted in a traditional Japanese design often called "counterweights," for it is similar in shape to weights used on antique scales. The back is unquilted, and features an envelope closure with a hefty overlap - trust me, the pillow form is NOT going to be peeking out of this one!

I like my pillows very firm and full, so there's actually a 14" pillow form inside this 10" square pillow. It makes for a nice, substantial pillow that doesn't smush to nothing if you try to actually use it.

This item was sewn in my smoke-free, cat-friendly studio. All fabrics are machine-washable cotton quilting fabrics, with cotton batting used in the front. All inside edges are finished.

Beulah is an old-fashioned kind of girl, pink on her paws, pom-pom tail and inside her floppy ears. At 10" from bottom to top of ear, she's just right for a cuddle or to decorate a shelf or bed.

Beulah is crocheted out of clean, new chenille yarn that is upcycled from mill ends from Churchill Weavers in Berea, Kentucky. This makes such a luscious fabric, it's hard to keep your hands off of her!

She is stuffed with synthetic fiber fill, and her legs and ears are sewn into the position you see in the photos (like Derek Zoolander, she only has one pose). All of her parts are firmly sewn on, so she should be safe for all ages, but you might want to avoid giving her to a child known for biting and/or tearing, as it might hurt her feelings. She does have a rather sleepy expression embroidered on her face, but the pink yarn I used makes it a subtle effect that's hard to see in the photos. Beulah enjoys swimming, and she would be happy to do so in your washing machine.

This adorable doll quilt was made with the same materials and attention to detail I use for person-sized quilts ... it's just smaller!

The quilt is roughly 15x16" (not including the peach-colored ruffle) and features raw-edge-appliqued hexagons in a variety of 1930s reproduction prints, all sewn to a yellow floral background fabric. The quilt reverses to a yellow/blue/coral print with sunflowers and roosters - the same fabric that's used on the matching pillow.

Both pillow and quilt are machine-sewn for durability, using high-quality cotton quilting fabrics and polyester batting and stuffing material. These have been through the wash once already, and should hold up to a reasonable amount of washing (delicate cycle, dry on cool, please).

Made with care in my smoke-free studio. This item will ship via first class mail, and will arrive bundled as you see in the final photo.

This quilt features a traditional wedding ring design machine appliqued in SIX different teal or turquoise fabrics, plus bright red for the "jewels" at teh intersections of the rings. The rings are appliqued onto a black background that is printed with tiny heart-shaped polka dots in pink, green, blue, orange, red, and purple. The quilt is backed with a mottled teal blue fabric.

This quilt is made from quality quilting cottons and is finished using traditional mitered binding. The machine quilting forms an allover stipple that adds tremendous texture to the quilt (see the one shot where the fabric looks grey to see how lovely and puckered the quilt is).

This quilt was made in my smoke-free studio, and it has already been washed once in hot water to give it a "lived in" puckered look. Suitable for everyday use, this quilt can be machine washed and dried.

When my daughter was still in diapers, I used to have a few diapers and wipes stashed with a change of clothes somewhere in the back of my minivan, just in case she blew through the one in my regular diaper bag. Everything was pink and fluffy and cute ... until the undead rabbit showed up.

Perfect for the 12-24mo infant/young toddler who insists on wearing nothing but pink, AND her parents, who plan to gouge out their eyes if they see another pink fluffy bunny anywhere near their kid.

Handknit in my smoke-free studio from washable cotton blend yarn, with cozy earflaps that tie beneath the chin, and large floppy bunny ears that are just begging to be chewed on. And giant, soulless eyes, of course.

Knot your average wholecloth quilt

This wallhanging was inspired by traditional wholecloth quilts, where the only design on the single-piece front is formed by the intricate quilting.

Usually this quilting is sewn with the same color thread as the fabric, but I've added a twist - here, the hand-quilting is done in a plum thread that really stands out against the natural cotton muslin fabric. The quilting forms an intricate celtic knot design at the four corners, with a circular medallion in the middle. The binding is a plum fabric with small printed black feather-like fronds.

The quilt is completely reversible - the front and back are the same, except one side has my initials appliqued in one corner. It measures 16 1/2" square, perfect as a wall hanging or to top a small table.

This all-cotton quilt was made in my smoke-free, cat friendly studio. Because hand quilting is more delicate than machine work, I recommend hand washing and air drying this piece. You can probably throw it in the dryer to fluff it up for a few minutes if it gets wrinkled during washing, but don't put anything else in that might pull or twist the fabric.
