Essential Yellow - White Pearl and Sapphire Earrings

$18.00
Classic white freshwater pearls accented with natural yellow sapphires; simple enough to wear every day, elegant enough that you will want to.

I made these earrings using 9mm drops of natural white freshwater pearl, to which I added 3mm faceted rondelles of natural yellow sapphire.

The pearls are of a very nice quality; exceptionally lustrous and smooth, with a nice iridescence. The sapphires are a cheerful, color saturated yellow, eye clean and of very clear water. Each stone is individually hand-wrapped in sterling silver wire.

The earrings measure about 1/2 inch long, from the bottoms of sterling silver french wire closures.

Sale - Clematis - Iolite, Prasiolite and Sterling Silver Earrings

$58.00
Smoke blue iolite and mint green prasiolite twine like vines of clematis up chains of sterling silver.

Iolite is a stone best known for one extraordinary optical property: the gemstone changes colors depending upon how it is viewed. A well cut iolite shows its best blue color through the top of the stone, but viewed from another angle the stone may appear to be violet, grey, or even colorless.

The little iolite briolettes that I used here have been cut to fully show off their color shift; from smoke grey to denim blue, with a midway stop at a sort of misty lavender.

The briolettes each measure about 5mm long. They are heart shaped, and slightly included.

Prasiolite, also known as green amethyst, is gaining in popularity as a jewelry stone. The gem quality prasiolite rondelles I used here are about 4mm around, and are a clear, shining pale green.

The earrings measure about 2.25 inches (5.6 cm) long, from the tops of sterling silver french wire closures.

These earrings are really about motion; the color shift, the sparkle, and the little dancing movement are all at their best when you turn your head. I'm showing pictures at different light levels, to try to give you some of the effect.

Some of the natural stones in these earrings have been heated to enhance their beauty.
Sale - Visions Clear - Australian Blue Green Crystal Opal and Gold Vermeil Earrings

$122.00
A flash of radiance in a darkened room. A glimpse of light in the corner of your eye. The mystery of brightness within shadow. The name "opal" derives from a Latin word which means "to see". It's easy to understand why. Opal has a visual magic like no other stone.

These simple, striking earrings are made with 5mm blue-green opals from the Lambina opal mines of southern Australia.

The opals are a blue-tinged white, semi-transparent (which is what makes them crystal opal), with a lovely blue-green fire which I can't photograph to save my life.

Each opal is individually hand wrapped on 14 karat gold-filled wire, and suspended from twisted links of 24k gold vermeil.

The earrings measure just a hair over 3 inches (7.6cm) long, from the tops of 14k gold vermeil french wires.

These are natural, undyed, untreated, solid opals. Clean them only with warm soap or water, avoid extreme temperature changes, and treat them gently. Opals are worth the trouble.

Sale - Wild Berries - Amethyst, Ruby, and Sterling Silver Briolette Pendant Necklace

$75.00
A double drop of royal purple amethyst and strawberry red ruby are suspended together from a sterling silver chain.

The is a simple, classic look, made rich and bold by the contrasting brightness of the pendant stones.

The ruby is of excellent cut and color, translucent, and with some inclusions. The stone measures about 10mm in length, and weighs 3.6 carats. It is a deep, rich pigeon's blood red.

The amethyst is awfully nice, too, with a superb clarity and wonderful color. In low light, it is a velvety, mid royal purple. In strong light, it flashes and sparkles with lilac and reddish-lavender. It is 19mm long, and weighs 16.9 carats. The cut, an unusual elongated teardrop, perfectly compliments the ruby.

Each briolette is wrapped in a shining cocoon of hair-fine sterling silver wire. The staggered chains on which I've suspended them (2.25 and 3 inches long, respectively) depend from a tiny faceted amethyst rondelle on a circle of twisted sterling.

The briolette pendant is balanced at the back with a jeweled extender of tiny ruby and amethyst rondelles on twisted circles.

The necklace is adjustable from 17 inches to 20 inches long, with the pendant adding another 3.5 inches. It is finished with a lobster security clasp in sterling silver.
Sale - Lemon Drop - Petite Oro Verde Quartz Briolette Necklace

$36.00
There are few colors that are fresher and more alluring than the spectacular lemon-gold of natural oro-verde quartz.

I love the contrast of a highly polished, water-clear stone in a relaxed looking, organic wrap setting. Or, you know, lemonade-clear.

For this necklace, I nestled a 13mm (11 carat) faceted lemon quartz briolette drop in a cocoon of fine sterling silver wire.

The drop is hung from an airily delicate sterling cable chain, which I have embellished at the clasp with tiny, perfect faceted rondelles of the same lovely quartz.

The necklace is about 20 inches (50cm) long, with the pendant adding another inch of length. It is finished with a lobster security clasp in sterling silver.

Sale - How the Sun Rose- Red Topaz, Rhodolite Garnet, Baltic Amber, Tanzanite and Sterling Silver Earrings, in Shades of Sunrise (or Delicious Fruit Flavors)

$73.00
Gem quality clouds of tanzanite, rhodolite garnet, and Baltic amber float above two superb red topaz teardrop briolettes.

The briolettes are fire engine, traffic light, that-one-lipstick-your-mom-didn't-like-you-wearing red. In any light at all, they sparkle red and deep pink. They measure about 16mm in length, and have a combined weight of 30carats.

I hung the briolettes from chains of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with sunrise clouds of fine Baltic amber, superbly gemmy tanzanite, and deeper red rhodolite garnet. Each of the little 2 to 3mm rounds and rondelles are suspended individually on sterling silver pins, for freedom of movement, and a dancing sparkle.

The earrings measure about 1.5 inches (3.75cm) long from the tops of oval-shaped sterling leverback closures.

The tanzanites have been heated, of course, to enhance their beauty (unheated tanzanite is brown). The topaz has a very, very subtle mystic coating, which makes it look just slightly iridescent in some lights.

The poem:

I'll tell you how the sun rose, --
A ribbon at a time.
The steeples swam in amethyst,
The news like squirrels ran.

The hill untied their bonnets,
The bobolinks begun.
Then I said softly to myself,
"That must have been the sun!"

~Emily Dickinson

Only the amethyst didn't look right, so I went with tanzanite.

Sale - The Shine of the Sea - Freshwater Pearl, White Topaz, and Sterling Silver Bracelet.

$105.00
Natural freshwater pearls seem to tumble and float on a triple length of wide-linked silver chain.

It's a look that, in a less lavish presentation, makes me think of blowing soap bubbles in summer. In three strands, it simply becomes a river of pearls.

For this bracelet, I began with rich ivory freshwater pearls in two different styles. There are long oval 6mm rice pearls, and little roundish 4-5mm potato pearls.

Then, for sparkle, I added tiny 2mm microfaceted rondelles of fine white topaz. Every stone is painstakingly hand-wrapped in sterling silver wire and suspended from a three lengths of airy round-linked chain in gleaming sterling silver.

The bracelet pictured measures about 7.5 inches (18.2 cm) long, to allow for easy, graceful movement on the wrist. It is finished with a swansneck hook-and-eye clasp in Hill Tribes silver, which is my favorite for bracelets of this type.

Yours will be made precisely to your measure, and you will have your choice of clasps. It will ship no more than 5 days after your order is placed.

The poem? This one:

All the breath and the bloom of the year in the bag of one bee:
All the wonder and wealth of the mine in the heart of one gem:
In the core of one pearl all the shade and the shine of the sea:
Breath and bloom, shade and shine, -- wonder, wealth, and -- how far above them --
Truth that's brighter than gem,
Trust, that's purer than pearl, --
Brightest truth, purest trust in the universe--all were for me
In the kiss of one girl.

~Robert Browning
These tiny pink amethysts, so softly, beautifully colored, make me think of the Cereus Cactus, called Queen of the Night, whose flowers bloom only on night a year.

For this necklace, I've wrapped a handful of pink amethyst rondelles in sterling silver, and then connected them with round rings of twisted silver

The amethyst rondelles are a soft purple, so pale that it blushes into pink. They are tiny, measuring only about 2mm long, and are beautifully microfaceted for maximum sparkle.

The princess-length necklace is just under 17 inches (42cm) long, and is finished with a sterling silver filigree locking clasp.
Each of the 2 to 3mm rondelles is suspended individually on 24k gold vermeil pins to move freely with you, for a dancing sparkle.

The citrine is beautifully cut in a fine faceted teardrop shape that comes to a sweet little point at the bottom. It is kind of enormous; nearly an inch (24.5mm) long, and with a weight of 42.5 carats.

I love this rock. It is flawlessly clear, and a burnished cinnamon orange in color. In low light it is like a drop of spiced cider. In strong light, it sparkles with the paler gold of sourwood honey.

The briolette is hung from a length of fine gold-filled cable chain, which I have which I have embellished with an asymmetrical scattering of spinel, citrine, and hessonite garnets, and a handmade extender of the same gemstones, interspersed with twisted circlets of 24k gold vermeil.

The necklace is about is adjustable from 18 to 21 inches (45 to 52.5cm) long, with the pendant adding another 2 inches (5 cm) in length. It is finished with a 14k gold filled lobster security clasp.

This natural briolette drop has been heated to enhance its beauty.

Sale - Pussy Willow - Rose Quartz, Labradorite and Sterling Silver Bracelet

$88.00
A gray pussy willow
sold as a Buddha flower
proud among colors

~Issa

There's something strangely, wonderfully calming and meditative about this combination. Tiny faceted specks of grey labradorite cast a quiet rainbow iridescence over smooth rose quartz rondelles.

I made this subtly lavish bracelet with an enormous pile of rose quartz; lovely rondelles that are cool, translucent, and perfectly smooth, glowing faintly as if with an inner light.

There are about 180 smooth rondelles on the bracelet. Each stone measures 6mm across, and they come in varying shades of pale, pale pink. I have wrapped every one in sterling silver wire, and hung it individually from a substantial sterling silver chain.

Then, to highlight the subtle blush of the quartz, I added just a wee few tiny rondelles of natural labradorite. These are excellent stones, pale to mid grey, with wonderful flashes of rainbow chatoyance.

All together, the effect sort of makes me swoon.

The bracelet is finished with a twisted toggle wreath clasp in polished sterling. It is 9 inches (22.5 cm) long. If you would like it in a smaller size, please let me know.

The stones on this bracelet are entirely natural and undyed.

Sale - Celeste - Citrine and Namibian Spessartite Necklace

$787.00
The warm, honeyed shimmer of spessartite garnet, the sunshine sparkle of natural citrine. The perfect combination for the perfect statement necklace, a piece to bring brightness and shine to the dullest winter.

There are over 500 stones on this necklace, all of them hand chosen for superb quality.

I formed the chain with 3mm faceted golden citrines, and 2mm microfaceted Namibian spessartite garnets. It attaches to the clasp with two flawless 2ct drops of madeira citrine.

Spessartite garnet is known for its brilliance and color saturation. The source for the Namibian spessartite that I used here is played out, which means that whatever is available right now is all that there is. There are several other spessartite fields in the world, but the stones from Namibia were my absolute favorites. I'll miss them.

The tiny stones I chose for this necklace are subtly shaded from honeyed orange to a deep sorrel, with the lovely sparkle and (even in this tiny size) color saturation that makes the Namibian stuff so amazing.

The central pendant is an impeccable 24 carat madeira citrine, over an inch long and absolutely perfect in cut and color.

Each stone has been individually hand-wrapped on 14k gold filled wire, and is suspended to fall gracefully from a 14k gold filled chain.

The necklace is about 50.8cm (20 inches) long, with the pendant stone adding another 3.2 cm (1 and 1/4 inches). It is finished with a secure gold vermeil swansneck clasp.

I can shorten this one to any length you like, so please feel free to contact me. Thanks!

Here's how I happened to make this piece:

Some people just inspire you.

One of my favorite scarf-makers is Celeste, of CricketsCreations. Her work is superb, and she uses color impeccably. Paging through her shop always sets me dreaming.

Lately, she has been showing scarves in the most glorious rich autumn palettes that you can imagine. Most particularly, she did this:

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14484277

Doesn't it look just like crunching through leaves on the most perfectly crisp October day in all the world?

I live in Georgia. I don't really need a scarf. But it stayed on my mind, so I took some of my best rocks and made a necklace about it.

There is corn, and tomatoes, and melons so sweet and cold it's like biting into winter. And at the very back, in one long, sun-fired row, there is honey.

She can tell you all about it. I think she knows the bees by name. "Clover" she will say, about the straw-pale mason jar. "Buckwheat", to one that gleams nearly red. If it was candy, the flavor would be hot cinnamon. In any light at all, it sparkles red and deep pink. It measures about 19mm in length, and has a weight of 16.95 carats.

I decorated the drop with rainbow moonstones of excellent quality and color, a fine, clear white with wonderful little spots of rainbow iridescence. Each of the little 3mm moonstones is suspended individually on sterling silver pins, for easy movement and a dancing sparkle.

The pendant hangs on a fine-linked sterling infinity chain, which I have customized at the clasp with a gemstone extender of moonstone and garnet, in a color that matches the deepest reds of the pendant drop.

The necklace is adjustable from 18 to 20 inches (50 cm) long, with the pendant adding another inch of length. It is finished with a lobster security clasp in sterling silver.

This natural topaz has been heated to enhance its beauty, and then given a light mystic treatment, for just a trace of iridescence.

Sale - Scarlatti - Baroque Pearl and Sterling Silver Necklace

$75.00
Baroque pearls: silken ivory-white, rippled, and crinkled and gleaming in the light. Could anything feel more uniquely elegant?

Baroque pearls are simply pearls that are irregularly or unusually shaped. For this piece, I have selected pearls which have a wonderful, ripply texture; and hand-wired them onto sterling silver to form a necklace that measures a lavish, opera-length, 36 inches (90 cm)long.

The pearls are rather large, measuring about 9mm, and are near-round in shape. Each one has a very individual character, but they are well matched in color and luster.

The necklace can be worn doubled, as shown, or in one long, long fall of iridescence. It is finished with a swansneck clasp in hill tribes silver.

And what did I have to call it?

Scarlatti, of course. Because it's a baroque opera.

Um. I'll just go now.

Sale - Peppermint Twist - Red Topaz, Moonstone and Sterling Silver Hoop Earrings

It is a look that combines boldness, simplicity, and exuberant movement.

The topaz briolettes are about 11mm long, with a combined weight of 12 carats. The mystic finish is very subtle, just enough to give them a really remarkable sparkle while preserving their excellent clarity.

The 3mm moonstone rondelles are of excellent quality, a fine, clear white with wonderful little spots of rainbow iridescence.

To allow for a second, sleeker look, the stone charms are completely removeable from the 30mm sterling earhoops that I've used as a base. The hoops are highly polished and very lightweight for their size, and close with a sturdy clutch fastener.

All together, the earrings hang 2 inches (5cm) long from the tops of the hoops. I've used sterling silver throughout.

The topazes I've used here have been heated to enhance their beauty, with mystic coating applied for a little extra shimmer.

It's a look that makes me think of blowing soap bubbles in summer.

For this bracelet, I began with rich ivory freshwater pearls in two different styles. There are long oval 6mm rice pearls, and little roundish 4-5mm potato pearls.

Then, for sparkle, I added tiny 2mm microfaceted rondelles of fine white topaz. Every stone is painstakingly hand-wrapped in sterling silver wire and suspended from a two lengths of airy round-linked chain in gleaming sterling silver.

The bracelet measures about 7.7 inches (18.3 cm) long, to allow for easy, graceful movement. It is finished with a swansneck hook-and-eye clasp in Hill Tribes silver.

I can adjust this one to any length you'd like, so please feel free to ask. The stone weighs a substantial 27.2 carats, and is 21mm long.

I love this rock. It is flawlessly clear, and a burnished golden orange in color. In low light it is like a drop of maple syrup. It is finished with a 24k gold vermeil hook and eye clasp.

This natural briolette drop has been heated to enhance its beauty.

Sale - Seastorm - Labradorite, Moss Aquamarine and Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

$52.00
Rondelle cut gemstones in stormy greys and ocean greens float over a fiery labradorite cabuchon.

I started this pendant with a cabuchon-cut labradorite of deep, thundery grey . The stone measures just over 16mm long, and weighs just about 23 carats. It has a superb blue-green color play, and is polished to a smooth gloss.
It is semi-opaque, with some lovely stripes of translucence that glow in strong light.

I hung the big cab from a sturdy chain of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with rondelles of pale green moss aquamarine and a paler grey labradorite. Each stone is hand-wrapped in shiny sterling wire, for a lot of movement. They're fun to play with.

I capped the pendant with an 8mm labradorite rondelle, and hung it from a dainty infinity chain, which I embellished with a gemstone extender of twisted sterling circlets and more moss aquamarine.

The chain is aadjustable from 17 to 20 inches long, with the pendant adding another 2.75 inches. It is finished with a lobster security clasp in sterling silver.

Labradorite is a grey to black feldspar known for its spectacular iridescent flashes of color, which are called
“labradorescence”, or "schiller". The color flash changes in different lights, and can be blue, green, red, yellow, or even pink. The stone often has speckled black inclusions. In some lights, labradorite actually seems to catch fire. I love this rock.

This one can be adjusted to any length that you like, so feel free to ask. Thanks!

All the stones I use are natural, though some have been heated to enhance their beauty.

The stone measures 9.9mm in length, with a weight of 3.6 carats. It is a deep raspberry red color, which blazes up like fire when light shines through it.

The drop is hung from a very fine gold-filled chain, which I have embellished with two tiny faceted ruby rondelles.

These rubies have the slightly pale, silky look sometimes associated gems from the Chanthaburi province of Thailand. They were purchased prior to the US embargo on Thai Rubies.

The necklace is about 18 inches (45cm) long, with the pendant adding another half-inch of length. It is finished with a lobster security clasp in 24k gold vermeil.

Rose Red is Snow White's rather more interesting sister. It is hard to imagine a lovelier, more versatile color than the clear, cool green of good prasiolite.

For this set, I wrapped 8mm (9 carat total) princess cut faceted prasiolite briolettes in very fine sterling silver wire.

The pendant drop is hung from a fine sterling silver cable chain, which I have embellished at the clasp with a three inch extender, made of twisted silver circles, and faceted rondelles of the same cucumber green prasiolite.

The necklace is adjustable from 16 to 19 inches long, and is finished with a lobster clasp in gleaming sterling silver.

The earrings measure about 1inch (2.5 cm) long, from the tops of sterling silver french wires.

The 4 ct rubies are a deep cranberry red, opaque, and with some inclusions. Each stone is suspended on a sterling silver chain which I haven't antiqued, exactly, but merely mellowed, for a soft, heirloom look that I find very romantic.

The earrings measure about 2 inches (5 cm) long, from the sterling silver post closures.

Beautifully cut in a rounded teardrop shape, and a bright, golden sunshine yellow; it is simply a wonderful rock.

The briolette drop measures about 18mm in length, and weighs 22 carats. This is a substantial stone, of exceptional clarity and with a lovely sparkle.

To make the pendant, I wrapped the briolette drop in sterling silver wire, and decorated it with a tiny loop bail in twisted silver.

The drop is hung from a fine sterling cable chain, which I have embellished at the clasp with two tiny faceted golden citrines.

The necklace is about 19 inches (47.5cm) long, with the pendant adding another 1.25 inches of length. It is finished with a graceful swansneck hook clasp in hill tribes silver.

Citrine is the yellow variety of quartz. The briolette drop has been heated to enhance its beauty.

For this lavish bracelet, I have selected pearls which have a wonderful, crinkly, whitecap texture; and hand-wired them onto a sturdy gemstone chain of kyanite rondelles.

The pearls are quite large, measuring about 10mm, and are near-round in shape. Each one has a very individual character, but they are well matched in color and luster.

The ocean kyanite rondelles that peek out from beneath this foam of pearls measure about 6mm around. They are complemented by 3mm iolite rondelles in a deep-water blue grey.

The bracelet measures about 8.5 inches (20cm) long, and is finished with a graceful fishook clasp in sterling silver and iolite.

I can adjust this one to any size that you prefer, so do feel free to ask. I've done several of this style of earring, and these are without question the most ridiculously sparkly stones I've had to date. The pictures you see are the ones that are the most subdued. At their brightest, the topazes are actually difficult to look at.

The big stones measure about 17mm in length, and have a combined weight of 29.2 carats. They are a pale, clear pink, which spark brighter when they catch the light. And they catch any light they can find, throwing back fire even in twilight.

I hung the topazes from chains of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with a confetti of pink tourmaline, raspberry-pink rubellite garnet, and lavender-pink amethyst, like a cloud of pink sugar. Each of the little 2 and 3mm rondelles are suspended individually on sterling silver pins to move freely with you, which gives them a dancing sparkle.

The earrings measure about 1.5 inches (3.75cm) long from the tops of sterling silver french hooks.

Always azure, but in different lights they show every variation of that color; as changeable as the sea. They are semi-opaque, and some have slight, silklike inclusions.

I've wrapped each stone in 24k gold vermeil, and suspended it from a dainty chain of 14k gold filled wire. The chains are arranged in staggered tiers, to give the stones extra sparkle and sway.

The earrings fall about 1.25 inches (3.12cm) long, from the tops of 14k gold filled post closures.

All of the apatite is natural and untreated. I can never believe that a color this vivid comes straight out of the ground that way, but it really does.
They are completely natural and untreated, semi-opaque, and have a beautiful sparkle.

I hand-wired each rondelle onto a gold vermeil pins, and hung them from a fine but study gold-filled chain.

The bracelet measures just under 8.5 (21.6 cm) inches long, and finished with a 14k gold-filled filigree locking clasp.

Sapphire is the birthstone for September.

I can adjust this piece to any size that you like, just let me know. Thanks!

The princess cut is already fairly unusual in a drilled stone, but the faceting on these is what makes them so special. Each has been cut to show an effect almost of concentric squares, fascinatingly architechtural when contrasted with the dainty femininity of the color.

The pearls are of an exceptional lustre, smooth and iridescent, and at 2mm around, incredibly tiny.

The earrings measure just over 1 inch (2.55 cm) long, from the tops of sterling silver post closures.

It's the perfect cure for a grey day.

To make this pendant, I wrapped an 19mm (22 carat) flawless, faceted bi-colored quartz drop in an organic looking nest of sterling silver wire, and hung it from a circle of twisted silver.

This is a very good stone, of unusual cut and exceptional fire. Its color is a vivid collision of yellow and bright green. Though green and yellow occur in nearly equal proportions, the depth and balance of the colors depends almost entirely on how you look at it. I've tried to give you the idea with photos at varying angles and light levels.

The briolette is flawlessly clear. It has been laser faceted and highly polished, for excellent sparkle.

The drop is hung from a sterling silver drawn cable chain, which I have embellished at the clasp with tiny rondelles if natural golden citrine.

The necklace is about 24 inches (50cm) long, with the pendant adding another inch (2.5 cm) of length. It is finished with a swansneck clasp in sterling silver.

This natural quartz has been heated to enhance its beauty, which is how the bi-colored thing happens. Heat the stone a bit, and it comes out in deep, watery greens. A bit more, and the sun emerges. To get a bi-colored stone, one just heats one side more than the other.

Could anything feel more uniquely elegant?

Baroque pearls are simply pearls that are irregularly or unusually shaped. For this piece, I have selected pearls which have a wonderful, ripply texture; and hand-wired them onto sterling silver to form a necklace that measures about 20 inches (50.8 cm) long.

The pearls are quite large, measuring about 10mm, and are near-round in shape. Each one has a very individual character, but they are well matched in color and luster.

The necklace, at matinee length, is just right for either business or casual dressing. It is finished with a swansneck clasp in hill tribes silver.

This one is the Scarlatti Sonata, of course. Still baroque, but shorter than an opera.

This is a lovely rock: a medium grey with sultry glints of golden brown. It is about 20 mm long, and weighs just over 19 carats.

I hung the briolette from a sturdy chain of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with clusters of shaded smoky quartz briolettes. These little stones measure about 3mm around and have excellent clarity and sparkle. I have suspended each one on its own little twist of sterling silver.

The drop is hung from a very fine sterling infinity chain, which I have embellished at the clasp with two more smoky quartz rondelles.

The necklace is about 17 inches (42.5cm) long, with the pendant adding another inch of length. It is finished with a lobster security clasp in sterling silver.

This is a great rock: a velvety mid-purple, beautifully cut and with a lovely sparkle; weighing in at just over 15 carats.

I hung the big amethyst from a sturdy chain of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with a clustered celebration of purple amethyst, green peridot, golden citrine, and wine red garnet. Each stone is hand-wrapped in shiny sterling wire, for a lot of movement. They're fun to play with.

The bracelet is about 8.5 (21.25 cm) long, and is finished with a swansneck hook and eye clasp in Hill Tribes silver.

I can adjust this one to any length that you'd like, so feel free to ask. Thanks!

All of the gemstones on this bracelet are natural rocks. Some have been heated to enhance their beauty.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February, peridot for August, and garnet for January.

Purple, green, and gold have been the colors of New Orleans Mardi Gras since 1892. You can probably guess what inspired the wine red.

Every stone is painstakingly hand-wrapped in sterling silver wire and suspended from an airy round-linked chain in gleaming sterling silver.

The bracelet measures about 7.5 inches (18.75 cm) long, to allow for easy, graceful movement on most wrists. It is finished with a swansneck hook-and-eye clasp in Hill Tribes silver.

I'm happy to customize this piece to your precise fit, so please feel free to ask. Thanks!

I got kind of obsessed with this one, so I'm now offering it in two- and three-strand versions:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24336734
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23390902

Just wanted to show those off. :D

$58.00
Gem quality clouds of tanzanite and pink tourmaline float above a shocking pink topaz teardrop briolette.

The briolette is a dreamy shade that falls just between sky blue and lavender. 'Periwinkle' may be the best word, but it doesn't quite get across the watercolor delicacy.

The briolette is beautifully cut in a fine faceted teardrop shape that comes to a sweet little point at the bottom. They measure 19.35 in length, with a weight of just over 18 carats.

I hung the briolette from a chain of gold vermeil, and then decorated the links with watercolor clouds of superbly gemmy tanzanite, and tiny tourmalines in shades of pink. Each of the little 2 to 3mm rondelles are suspended individually on sterling silver pins to move freely with you, for a dancing sparkle.

The pendant is suspended from a sterling cable chain, which I have embellished with an asymmetrical scattering of tourmaline and tanzanite. It is about 20 inches ( 50 cm) long, and is finished with a swansneck clasp in sterling silver.

The tanzanites have been heated, of course, to turn them purple (unheated tanzanite is brown); the topaz briolette is heat treated to bring out the pink color.

Sale - Platypus - Tunduru Sapphire and Whiskey Quartz Necklace

$105.00
Platypus, platypus, platypus. Because that word makes me smile. And this necklace makes me smile.

But also because of a conversation I was having yesterday.

Me: Off to go nuts with some Tundurus and my new whiskey quartz.

My Friend: Tundurus...sounds like a funny looking animal. Like the platypus.

Me: Now I want a platypus.

And now you know most of the story. The rest of the story is, of course, about Tundurus.

Tundurus are sapphires that come from the Tunduru minefields, in Tanzania. They are of unusually good quality, and can be found in an extraordinary range of intense colors. Some people call them "tundra sapphires", but I've no idea why.

For this necklace, I chose Tunduru sapphires in a range of golden browns, from pale champagne to deep malt whiskey; with some graduated blue-gray stones asymmetrically placed.

For the clustered drop, I added Ceylon sapphires in the traditional color-saturated sky blue, and finished with an exceptionally fine faceted nugget of natural whiskey quartz.

The sapphire rondelles measure about 2mm, and are microfaceted for extra sparkle. There are over 100 sapphires on the necklace.

The whiskey quartz measures about 13mm in length, and is flawless and beautifully cut, for a faceted brilliance that has to be seen to be believed.

The necklace is about 18 inches (46cm) long, with the pendant adding another inch of length. It is 14k gold-filled throughout, and finished with a round filigree locking clasp.

I am happy to resize this for you, so please feel free to ask. Thanks!

In any light at all, they sparkle red and deep pink. They measure about 15.5mm in length, and have a combined weight of 26.8 carats.

I hung the briolettes from chains of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with clusters of superb Songea sapphire briolettes, and tiny pink tourmaline rondelles. These stones are of excellent quality, vividly colored and well cut. Some are slightly included. Each of the little 2 to 3mm stones are suspended individually on sterling silver pins, for freedom of movement and a dancing sparkle.

The earrings measure about 1.5 inches (3.75cm) long from the tops of oval-shaped sterling leverback closures.

The topaz has a very, very subtle mystic coating, which makes it look just slightly iridescent in some lights. The sapphires have been heated, to enhance their vivid colors.

Sale- Greenwood - Andalusite, Black Garnet, and Emerald Briolette Pendant Necklace

$103.00
Sparkling gemstone rondelles in the colors of a sunlit forest float above a lush green briolette of natural emerald.

I started this necklace with the largest emerald in my collection. The stone is natural and unoiled, with a grass green coloration reminiscent of new leaves. It measures nearly an inch long (24mm), and weighs 18.95 carats.

The emerald is flat cut, and semi-opaque, though if you hold it up to the light, it reveals lovely translucent spots. Because the stone has not been oiled, you can see some of the fissuring so typical of natural emerald, which gives it a very organic feel.

I nestled the big briolette in a tangle of 14k gold filled wire, then suspended it from a 14k gold filled chain, whose links I decorated with a cornucopia of gemstones in forest tones. There is lovely, loam-colored, andalusite; gleaming black garnet, and a handful of emeralds in colors from deep forest green to celadon. Each stone is individually hand-wired on 24k gold vermeil, for freedom of movement and extra sparkle.

The pendant is crowned with a twisted circle of 24k gold vermeil. It is about 2 inches (5 cm) long.

The chain measures about 22 inches (52.5 cm) long. It's a fine drawn cable, which I have decorated at the clasp with more rondelles of anadalustie. It is finished with a pinecone-embellished hook and eye clasp in 24k gold vermeil.

More about the rocks:

The emerald briolette comes from the Muzo mines of Columbia, but it doesn't have any of the characteristics associated with Columbian emerald (which is typically bright green, and gloriously transparent) so I'm not labeling it as such.

Some of the little emeralds in this necklace have been oiled, to protect them and enhance their beauty.

Clean your emeralds carefully in warm, slightly soapy water. Please do not use strong detergents, excessive heat, or ultrasonic cleaners. Store them away from your other jewelry to prevent damage. They are well worth the extra care.

Emerald is the birthstone for May.

The color is cotton candy pink, with little inclusions of a darker pink. The stone measures about 6mm across, and had been hand cut in a freeform sort of pentagon shape, with some nice faceting, and then highly polished to bring out the shine.

I hung the pendant on an airy sterling silver cable chain, which I have embellished at the clasp with two more little pink tourmalines.

The necklace measures about 18 inches (45 cm) long, and is finished with a lobster security clasp in sterling silver.

When they covered the riverbank, I thought they looked like summer brides. They were the most beautiful things in the world.

I made this necklace using over one hundred 6-7mm freshwater petal pearls in pure silvery white. I hand wrapped three strands of the pearls on gleaming sterling silver wire, and then accented them with tiny faceted rondelles of fine pink tourmaline and spinel.

The necklace is 18 inches long, and finished with a heavy sterling slider clasp.

Unlike conventional pearls, keishi (or petal) pearls are not formed around a nucleus. They are pure nacre, which gives them an iridescence and depth of lustre unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Also, they look like flower petals. My inner romantic swoons.
It's a look that's bold, yet timeless; perfect for day or night.

The silver makes the onyx seem an even deeper black, a distillation of midnight. The onyx makes the silver glow almost as if it was lit from within.

For each of these earrings, I used a big 14mm globe of polished black onyx, accented by smaller 4mm onyx rounds. Each stone has been hand wrapped on sterling silver wire and suspended from a sterling chain, to allow for a free, graceful movement.

The earrings are about 2.5 inches long. They are topped with an 4mm round of onyx and suspended from gleaming sterling silver ear posts.

$48.00
For this set, I combined smooth, cool briolettes of pale tanzanite with tiny, lustrous freshwater pearls.

This is one of my favorite gemstone combinations. The translucent shades of violet in the tanzanite, accentuated by the gleaming pearls, have a misty watercolor romanticism that I find very appealing; and I love the way the delicate colors deepen to twilight in lower light. I've taken pictures at several light levels, to give you the idea.

The earring briolettes measure about 5mm long, and the stone in the necklace is about 7mm.

The natural pearls range in length from 1 to 2mm. They are ivory white, with a nice luster.

The necklace is about 19 inches (48.8cm) long, and is finished with a filigree locking pearl clasp. The earrings are just a hair over 1/2 inch (1.42) cm long, from the tops of sterling silver posts.

Tanzanite is a fairly new addition to the world of gemstones. It was first found in Tanzania (you probably guessed) in 1967, and rapidly became one of the most well known stones, widely admired for its blue-lavender color.

Tanzanite has recently joined turquoise and zircon in the list of birthstones for December.

To contrast the pale clarity of the topaz, I added four pieces of superb marquise-cut kyanite in deepest cornflower blue. I completed the look with nine flawless microfaceted Thai sapphires.

The topaz briolettes are slightly graduated in size, from 7 to 7mm. The kyanite measures about 8mm long, and the sapphires are between 2 and 3mm across. Each stone is individually hand-wrapped in 14k gold filled wire.

The pendant moves freely on a dainty 14k gold filled drawn cable micro-chain, which I have embellished with sparkling blue sapphires to fall at collarbone length and at the nape of the neck.

The exceptional quality of the stones makes this piece perfect for a special occasion, but it has a relaxed elegance that makes it just as easy for everyday wear.

The chain is a little over 19 inches long, with the pendant adding another 1.5 inches. It is finished with a 14k gold filled filigree clasp.

They are all smooth as water, and cool to the touch, which makes them lots of fun to play with. They are transparent, with a few inclusions and some minor zoning.

The necklace measures 22 inches (55 cm) long, and is finished with a swansneck clasp in antiqued sterling silver.

The look is a little updated, a little streamlined; but I hope I've captured the sparkle and sway and fun of the originals.

To make them, I used nearly 40 flat-cut briolettes of gem-quality oro verde quartz in a deliciously delicate shade of greenish yellow. The briolettes are slightly graduated, from 4 to 6mm in length, all with a lovely clarity and sparkle. They're some of the prettiest little rocks I've ever had.

Each stone is wrapped in very fine 24k gold vermeil wire, and hung from fine golden chains.

The earrings measure 1 inch (2.5cm) long, from the tops of 24k gold vermeil earposts.

It is step faceted for an elegant sparkle.

The necklace hangs from a sterling silver infinity chain, which I have embellished with an extender of black spinel and silver. This marvelous stone comes in all shades of orange, from spicy to honeyed, and it has a clear fire that is simply incomparable.

For these earrings, I wrapped thirty 2mm microfaceted spessartite rondelles around a lovely filigree framework of 14k gold vermeil. Then, to add depth and movement, i finished with a fringe of more deeply colored spessartite briolette drops, ranging in length from 4 to 6mm.

The stones in these earrings, over 15 carats in all, are of exceptional cut and brilliance. The silver makes the onyx seem an even deeper black. The onyx makes the silver glow almost as if it was lit from within. The dainty chain looks fragile and feminine, but the stones speak of strength.

To make this piece, I hand-wired smooth, cool 3mm rondelles of pure black onyx, and hung them from a fine, strong chain of gleaming sterling.

The bracelet measures about 8.5 (21.6 cm) inches long, and finished with a toggle clasp in antiqued sterling silver.

I can adjust this piece to any size that you like, just let me know. The radiance of its sparkle is simply unmatchable.

The central focus of this ring is a 5 carat nugget of London blue topaz. This stone is about 8mm long, and of superb color, cut and clarity. I've surrounded it with 3 to 4mm rondelles of lighter sky-blue topaz, and rainbow moonstone. Each rondelle is of excellent quality, and the moonstone has a lovely flash of blue chatoyance.

There are over 25 stones in the ring, each individually wire-wrapped on 14k gold vermeil; some with little 14k gold-filled accent beads to add visual interest.

The stones are just slightly poseable, which makes this one a really fun ring to play with.

The ring itself is made of hammered gold vermeil, which is 14k gold over sterling silver. It is a size 7.

All of the stones in this ring are natural, but some have been heated to enhance their color.

They clasp with a sturdy clutch fastener, and are surprisingly light for their size.

The gemstones are:

Prehnite
Green Onyx
Tsavorite Garnet
Brazilian Emerald

These rondelles range in size from 2 to 8mm, and are hand-wrapped in sterling silver wire. They can be moved around on the hoops (though they don’t come off), for a variety of different spacings. The stones are of excellent quality. The look is very organic, and very versatile.

All of the stones are natural, of course, but the green onyx has been dyed.
This color of citrine is generally called "golden", but it puts me more in mind of dandelions.

It's a beautifully cut rock, of excellent clarity, and it's just as sparkly as all get out.

I suspended the briolette from a long handmade chain of golden citrine and green onyx rondelles. The rondelles range from 3 to 4mm in size, and move freely with you, for a sort of graceful, dancing effect.

I finished the pendant with a simple, twisted sterling bail. It's hung on on a fine infinity chain of sterling silver, which I have embellished with more cheerful little green onyx rondelles.

The chain hangs about 19 inches (47.5cm) long, with the pendant adding another 2.5 inches (5cm).

I can adjust the chain to any size that you prefer, so please feel free to let me know.

This piece was inspired by the wonderful dandelion meadow palette of etsy's Carapace. It has all the warm glow of banked embers, and a sparkle like a fire blazing to life.

For these earrings, I suspended beautifully cut, highly polished 6mm pyrope garnet briolettes from 15mm sterling silver ear hoops.

The garnets are simply wrapped in sterling wire, and swing freely, for a minimalist look that has maximum sparkle.

The earrings measure just under 1.5 inches (3.7cm) from the tops of the hinged closures.

Smoke and Spring Rain - Iolite and Sterling Silver Earrings

$32.00
Someone is living there;
smoke leaks through the wall,
in the spring rain.

~Buson

Dainty iolite teardrop briolettes dance down a chain of sterling silver.

The briolettes each measure about 4mm long. The earrings fall just a hair over 1.25 inches (3.13 cm) long, from the tops of sterling silver french wires.

These earrings are really about motion; the color shift, the sparkle, and the little dancing movement are all at their best when you turn your head. I'm showing pictures at different light levels, to try to give you some of the effect.

Harmony - Amethyst, Pink Tourmaline, and Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

$182.00
For this necklace, I began with a truly remarkable 24ct briolette cut Brazilian amethyst. This natural stone is eye clean, superbly cut, and of a deep, rich purple that flashes wine-red in the light. It measures 24.5mm in length (that's just a hair under an inch long), and has a sparkle that has to be seen to be believed.

An extraordinary stone needs an extraordinary setting. To highlight the amethyst, I hand-wrapped over one-hundred tiny, microfaceted rondelles of gem-quality natural pink tourmaline on sterling silver wire, and hung them to fall in graceful swags to the hammered silver oval of the pendant piece.

The tourmaline measures between 2 and 3mm. It ranges in color from pale rose to a vivid violet-pink which perfectly compliments the red-purple of the amethyst. The swags drape from a fine sterling chain which I have decorated with four 3mm microfaceted amethysts.

The necklace is about 18 inches long, and is finished with a secure swansneck clasp in hill tribes silver.

I can adjust this piece to any length you prefer, so please feel free to talk to me about it. Thanks!

The Spring Twilight - Trillion Cut Smoky Quartz and Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace

The staggered chains on which I've suspended them (1.25 and 1.75 inches long, respectively) depend from a tiny faceted smoky quartz rondelle on a circle of twisted sterling.

The necklace is about 18 inches (45 cm) long, with the pendant adding another 2.25 inches (5.7 cm). It is finished with a swansneck clasp in sterling silver, which I have embellished with two more smoky quartz rondelles.

Pink Opal and Onyx Pendant Necklace

Pink Peruvian opals, some in a striking black crystal matrix, set off a 30mm coin-shaped pendant of gleaming black onyx. The opals are 8x5mm smooth rondelles, alternated with 3mm onyx rounds. Each stone is individually hand-wrapped on sterling silver wire. The pendant measures 1 ½ inches, on a necklace 17 inches long. Twisty Round Sterling Silver toggle clasp.

Though it lacks the color play characteristic of precious opals, pink opal is a true opal, nearly translucent, a pastel pink with some lighter and darker shades. Care for it as you would any opal.

It is 8” long, which allows free movement on an average size wrist.

The stones are 8x5mm, light to medium blue-gray threaded through with shining needles of lighter blue, some in a dramatic black matrix.

Each is individually hand-wired onto a sturdy round linked sterling silver chain. The bracelet is finished with a swansneck hook and eye clasp in hill tribes silver.

Kyanite derives its name from the Greek word for "blue," kyanos. It can range in color from an icy, shimmery blue or a rich cornflower that resembles the finest sapphire. It is one of the softer gemstones, and should be worn with the same care as you would give to fine pearls.
Watercolor - Tanzanite and Freshwater Pearl Earrings

$52.00
For these earrings, I hung smooth briolettes of tanzanite from a 14 karat gold filled chain adorned with 3mm white freshwater seed pearls and tiny, 2mm faceted rondelles of the same pale blue violet tanzanite. Each stone is hand wrapped in 14k gold-filled wire, to fall in a graceful chain that measures just under 2 inches long from the bottom of gold-filled french wires.

This is one of my favorite gemstone combinations. The translucent shades of violet in the tanzanite, accentuated by the gleaming pearls, have a delicate watercolor romanticism that I find very appealing.

Tanzanite is a fairly new addition to the world of gemstones. It was first found in Tanzania (you probably guessed) in 1967, and rapidly became one of the most well known stones, widely admired for its blue-lavender color.

The tanzanite I used in these earrings is a pale blueish violet, and ranges in clarity from eye clean to very slightly included.

Tanzanite has recently joined turquoise and zircon in the list of birthstones for December.
