Betsy Gerson joined Front Street in 1996, adding a new strong voice and her skills on guitar and mandolin. Benedict, Reiser and Gerson shared the writing, and along with DiLeonardo's distinctive guitar work, the group expanded its musical pallette.

The City Within was released in 1990. The trio years of Front Street began in 1988 when bassist Tim Reiser joined Benedict and DiLeonardo. At this time, the trio featured collaborative arrangements of Benedict's songs and fresh versions of traditional material.
