Upcycled Hand Warmers Fingerless Gloves

Another perfect sweater bit the dust when it accidently was put in the washer. It came out felted and way too small to wear.I was going to donate it when I thought "Hmmm, handwarmers". I crocheted 6 rows of a tight stitch with a thumb opening at the top and a single row at the bottom. I chose light blue to accent the row of blue in the sweater pattern. The total length is 7" (24cm) so these really hug and keep you warm.
The wonderful winter pattern has new life in the form of fingerless gloves. The photos may be fuzzy in part because the body of the gloves are felted and fuzzy!
I would suggest cold hand wash to prevent further shrinkage.

I was very excited to use this yarn because of the great colors. The coffee tones are mixed with yellow, pink and blues which makes it go with everything. I was then further enticed by this great knitted stitch that makes it appear that the scarf is woven, adding great texture.
The length is 48" (12cm) without the fringe which is 7 1/2" (19cm). The width is 4 1/2" (11 1/2cm) and the piece is super soft. It is a 50% wool yarn so it should not be machine washed but rinsed in cool water.

I confess...I love to set a pretty table and I have an over abundance of place mats, napkins and napkin rings. These caught my eye as something new in a delightfully different way.
These are crocheted out of a 100% cotton in a color combo of sandy green,blue,gold and tan. They are each anchored with a different coordinating button and sewn with matching thread. They are machine washable and dryable. The set includes 4 and each measures about 4 1/2" (12cm) across and and 7 1/2" (19 1/2cm) top to bottom.
A sprig of greenery would also look wonderful at each place setting.
You can also enclose a napkin in these, with or without the cutlery. Another thought: use each one solely for forks or spoons, etc. if you are setting a buffet table. Pretty versatile!

This was a yarn I bought ages ago with no project in mind. I finally decided to make a pair of fingerless gloves with it. New to the idea of handwarmers/fingerless gloves? They are great. While you maintain dexterity, your hands stay warm. Think of that cool office, playing an instrument, driving your car...they work!
These are in soft shades of rose, green, yellow and white.

This is a wonderful, vibrant blue yarn that worked up beautifully in a rib stitch that gives size flexibility. I trimmed the top and bottom edges with a variegated fuzzy yarn and embellished further with 2 vintage leather-look buttons.
I was a hand warmer skeptic but have found they are a great accessory for those cold days when you do need the dexterity in your fingers. There is a slit for the thumb that does not show in the pictures. I'd suggest cold water wash and lay flat to dry.

Sometimes the yarn talks to me and this one screamed "SOFT"! I combined this rust tone chenille with a brown cotton to give it some shape. There is an opening on one end to pull the scarf through and adjust the fit. It measures 23" long and 5" wide (58cm by 12cm). I suggest hand washing and laying flat to dry.
This will work on a child as well as an adult...warmth without the length.

This is a wool blend yarn with flecks of green, brown, blue, wine and a mustard tone. Each length of the scarf has loops running from top to bottom that are knit in and won't come out. The inspiration for this piece was the flower pot shaped wood button. Love it! I was also inspired by my orchids & irises in drawing this flower but the leaf buttons are definitely not orchid or iris leaves. This was done on taupe linen stretched on a 4" hoop. The back is covered to keep out the dust!

I combined a wonderful deep sage green chenille yarn with a multi-colored fringe yarn for this mini scarf. They worked well together! The closing is a vintage yellow square button that just pokes through the yarn so you can make it as loose or as tight as you wish.
It measures 25" in length and is 3" wide (63cm by 8cm).
Scarflettes are wonderful giving you warmth around your neck without the bulk.

Button Love Hoop Art

This is the next piece in my embroidery hoop art grouping. This phrase "Buttons keep my coat together but you keep me warm inside" has been hanging in my studio for many years. I finally thought it would work on a hoop and I think it does.
The linen cloth is stretched on a 6" (16cm) wood hoop. The lettering is done in shades of sage green in the writing style of a young child. Two of the buttons are vintage and all compliment the phrase.
Great addition to many rooms in your house or a wonderful gift.

I knit and crochet in my living room where inevitably needles and yarn clutter the tables. The idea for this was born when I saw a thin plastic "glass" in a local store but thought it looked too plain...make a cozy for it!
This measures 8" (20cm) tall and is made with 100% cotton which is machine washable and dryable. This is a self striping red, white and blue yarn and it worked up so evenly!
The plastic cylinder inside is included. If you do not want that included, I will refund $1.50-advise me in the notes to seller.
Of course this can be used for things other than knitting needles....pencils, pens,rulers on your desk or even kitchen utensils. Fill it with water and add some colorful spring/summer blooms. Let your imagination go.

I get ridiculously excited when I find buttons depicted in places that are unusual...wrapping paper, cards, etc. So I flipped when I found ribbon with buttons! Cool!
