"Good Night You Moonlight Ladies" is a paean to the Pacific Ocean, a potent theme in my work since I was born near mother ocean. This Pacific piece was inspired by James Taylor's lullaby, "Sweet Baby James."

In the song, "Moonlight Ladies" are actually the spirits of the moon, which come out of the sky and shine their lights as the evening darkness falls. (songfacts.com)

This is a 7.5" x 10" giclee print on UltraSmooth Fine Art paper.

The original painting "Martha and the Vendettas," was painted during my filing for divorce. The figure is in an angry wound-up pose, with arrow in hand, ready to release if pushed any further. It was a loose sketch painted in traditional oils. The face was changed to a mask because I was having to contain my anger at the time to thwart danger in the situation—hence the arrow behind the back but the mask of accommodation. The name is a play on Martha Graham (dancer) and Martha and the Vandellas (the singing group). The blue swirls on top of the red dress also are an attempt to pacify my anger with purer thoughts and activities.

Original is a 36" x 48" oil on canvas. This is a cropped portion of a large painting.

I think that's a sentiment designed to inspire a peaceful heart. However, it isn't easy to cure a volcano heart!
