The Bank Holiday Fairy - Signed miniature print

This is the Bank Holiday Fairy - a print of one of my miniature paintings. Poor Bank Holiday Fairy, soggily sheltering under a toadstool with her optimistically thin summer dress on, and her green wellies, trying to draw a little cheer from a hot mug of tea. But then again I am not sure she is entirely blameless in this - maybe she was jilted on a bank holiday, and so she laid a curse that every bank holiday should be miserable and rain all day. (Although personally I rather like the rain...)

Image size is 4.5 inches square. Paper size A5, so plenty of white border for framing.

The print is signed, and printed on Archival Matte paper with pigment inks. Please note - there is no text on the actual print.

This print is one of the ‘Drinking Girls’ from a series of miniature paintings I did. The originals are all 4.5 inches square, but with so much detail that I often print them up to 12 inches – so if you’d like a larger print please contact me and I can list one for you. The 'Drinking Girls' are of course not very girly at all, but they all have a drink and, I hope, an occasional twist of the unexpected. I have gone through most of the obvious parings of mythical creatures with their drinks, though there is plenty of scope for more.

This listing is for a signed archival giclee print of a drawing from my 'Fornicating Fairies' series. They are quite, quite rude! For my 'nicer' fairies have a look in nicer areas of my shop!

This is a print of one of my paintings - the story goes something like this: So Hell has workers. Workers have rights, and most importantly workers have coffee breaks, where they can sit around and bitch about the management... Well, that's where I'd got to with 'Coffee Break' - a previous devil picture - this is merely the next stop for the train of thought. You see, the devils don't really have any strong feelings about the dammed - they're just there, all over the place - they're just part of the furniture. Ok, yes they have to do a bit of persecuting now and then, but they've got eternity for that, and a hard-working she-devil has to stop for cake now and then. This lot are probably middle management, and take liberties all the time

Dolls calendar for 2010

Please note: this calendar is a re-run of the dolls one I did last year. If you bought a dolls calendar last year, perhaps you might be interested in one of the other two calendars I have listed in this shop... unless you really want to see the same pictures all over again!

This is a calendar made up of postcards of the dolls pictures, plus postcards with the months on, all held together by two little hinged rings. There are in fact 14 images in this calendar, not 12, as there are two spare postcards at the back, so if you prefer the spare postcards you can undo the rings and shuffle the pictures as you desire... or arrange each picture with each month as you deem appropriate :-)

The front image varies from calendar to calendar, but they all have the same selection of images inside.

About the Image:
This one of my pictures of the 'girls' from The Department of Dangerous and Unusual Canapés - an idea that came from the juxtaposition of two different jobs that a friend of mine has. Jobs that one wouldn’t want to mix up. So of course I mixed them up.
The 'girls' are of course Demons, not girls at all; I imagine that this is the sort of catering company that a fashionable demon might get in to throw one of those fashionable parties they like to have. The ones where the Angels are not invited... But you may draw your own conclusions, of course.
There are to be at least 8 pictures, but I've not painted them all yet...
The original was done in gouache.

just as Nouveau Riche = the New Rich)

About the Image:
This is a picture about Vampires, old and new. Let me be clear: there are no mortal people in this picture, only Vampires. The Nouveaux Morts are ‘making friends’. Trying their best to impress their guests, they are serving blood in sophisticated little cocktail glasses decorated with eyeballs on sticks, in much the same way as one might ruin a fine vintage port by dousing it with bitter lemon. There are probably ice cubes and, Hell forbid, there probably really is bitter lemon in there somewhere too. Some of the guests are doing their utmost to be tolerant in the hope that the effort will be to their ultimate advantage; nonetheless these ancient and evil Creatures of the Night are finding it hard to come to terms with such depraved behavior as this.

This is a very large signed 'Giclee' print on heavyweight archival paper. The image measures about 15x31 inches / 79x38 cm, with a wide border around that. Click on the second thumbnail for the full image.

This is an original drawing done from life, by me. It is not a print, but a completely unique drawing. It is also signed (though some of my drawings were scanned before I signed them, so the signature isn't visible in every case). The words 'copyright Nancy Farmer' do not appear on the actual drawing.

This is a huge, limited edition print. All these prints are signed and numbered and limited to 75 prints. Image size is about 30 x 22 inch / 75 x 57 cm, with a wide border around that. This is a signed 'giclee' print, on very heavyweight archival paper. Please note - there is no 'copyright' text on the actual print.

(I also have a much smaller open edition print of this image that is about 18.5 x 12.5 inches. See my other listings if you're interested in that, or send me a message.)

This drawing was done for an exhibition to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of artist, visionary and poet William Blake. The initial starting point was the title of William Blake's 'prophetic' book "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell". Blake rejected the established church, though not religion per se, seeing rather the church's views of 'evil' and the Devil as the imaginative, creative drive which the church would control and suppress. As Blake's 'voice of the Devil' declares: "those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained".

So this drawing started as a kind of 'reconciliation' between Heaven and Hell, but its main subject is the anger, horror, alarm and confusion of the 'good' church-goers whose world is undermined because they no-longer have an enemy they can blame and rant against. There are outbreaks of violence, religious fervor, occasional nudity and general chaos..

'Frolicking Fairies'

This listing is for a signed archival giclee print of a drawing that was supposed to be part of my 'Fornicating Fairies' series. However, this one had to have nothing 'obvious' going on, so I called it simply 'Frolicking Fairies'... (If you'd like to see the really naughty fairies, have a look at the 'Fornicating Fairies' section of this shop.)

Paper size is A3+ (13x19 inches / 33x48 cm), and the image is 17x12 inch / 43x30 cm inches.

I can actually print this image in two different versions, as I took a color scan and a grayscale (Black and White) scan of the same image. There isn't much color in it at all, since the original was done in pencil and palladium leaf, but I do have a version with subtle color, and a version completely black and white. You can see the difference in the various images I've put up. Please let me know which version you would prefer, or, if you don't say, I will send the version with subtle color, since this seems to be the prefered one.

You know how it is, you've just settled down to enjoy a romantic picnic with the girl of your deepest, darkest desires; hoping for a successful seduction... when a shoal of bloody mermaids turns up. The mood is ruined. All hopes of getting the darling into bed are shattered. And worse, it now appears that you are going to loose a perfectly serviceable straw boater and a very fine umbrella!

Five Aces - cheating at cards in Hell - 5x7 inch signed print

This is a print of one of my paintings: 'Five Aces'
Devils cheat at cards, just as one would imagine. The trouble is they all cheat, which is fair, in a way. Unfortunately all of them have an ace up their... well they have an ace anyway... and it's the same ace in each case, which is going to cause trouble. The she-devil on the right also has a '666' - which is probably a winning hand in Hell. I don't know, I've never been much good at cards.

Oh and the naked blokes? they're some of the damned. You get a lot of damned souls in Hell, obviously, and not a lot of tables and chairs, so the devils have to improvise.

Image size is about 5x7 inches (about 13x18 cm), paper size is A3+ (13x19 inches). The print is a signed giclee print, on Archival Matte paper with pigment inks. Please note - there is no 'copyright' text on the actual print. Though of course I retain the copyright.

Well it must get rather boring and lonely mooning around on clouds and being good all the time. And this little Angel has been caught red-handed, so to speak, trying a little 'therapy' to relieve the tedium...

Medusa's Hammock - another picture of the unusual femme fatale as she relaxes in her unusual garden - signed 18x11.4 inch print

This is a print of my latest Medusa painting, 'Medusa's Hammock'

About the print:
Print is signed, image size is 18x11.4 inch / 46x29 cm, paper size is 'super A3' / 13x19 inches / 33x48 cm. This is an open-edition giclee print on Epson's Archival Matte paper, with Epson's Ultrachrome Inks - very good lightfastness, and the smoothness of the paper makes it excellent for detail.

About the Painting:
Medusa's garden naturally tends to be rather full of somewhat horror-struck stone 'Statues', and they clutter the place up and make it look untidy. Occasionally, however, she finds a use for one or two of them. Here is Medusa herself, relaxing in her hammock, with its unusual supports.
There are koi carp in the pond, a kind of fish that harbors few opinions on beauty or deformity, and who consequently have no problem whatsoever with Medusa's unusual appearance. This is good, because stone fish would sink to the bottom of the pond and be uninteresting.

'A Slight Misunderstanding'
This is a limited edition print of one of my paintings. It shows a rather exclusive gentlemen's club, where, as a special treat they have called out for a lap dancer... only the agency seem to have got confused and have sent the wrong girl - in much the came way as sometimes the pizza place deliver the wrong type of pizza and send something hot and covered in spicy sausage when one wanted a nice safe vegetarian topping. Happens all the time in this modern, busy world...

Finderskeepers - large, signed, circular mermaid print - 20 inch diameter

This is a very large signed print of one of my paintings - 'Finderskeepers'. It depicts a swirl of mermaids who are delighted to have found an ancient shipwreck, complete with treasure (I imagine it was a pirate ship), and skeletons, and are playing with their new finds. One of them has a skull in her hand, which she finds particularly amusing, while the others are more attracted to the shiny coins and jewelery...

There is no 'right way up' for this print - put it any way up you like - that's the way it was intended!

The image is printed the same size as the original painting - a 20 inch (50cm) circular image printed on particularly heavyweight paper. The paper is square and has a wide margin beyond the edge of the circle, so that you could put it in a square frame, or trim it and put it in a round frame. (Round frames of this size are obtainable - the original painting is in one...) It's a giclee print on archival paper, and I will sign it usually on the image itself, near the edge, so that you can cover up the white border without losing the signature, but if you would prefer that the signature is on the white border then just let me know.

The colors are very strong and particularly striking in this print, and because it lightens towards the center it almost seems to glow!

This time I thought I would address the delicate issue of Medusa's pubic hair - or pubic snakes, as it were. No one else seems to have considered this quite obvious question. If course this would lead one to wonder if the poor girl also has underarm snakes, too. One can only assume this to be the lamentable truth of the matter, however, I assume she shaves them off. Underarm snakes really would be a trifle unpleasant, not to mention the trouble they could cause trying to put on a bra in the morning...

'Fishwife' - limited edition print (edition of 250) from one of my paintings.

The Mermaid has grown tired of mooning around shipwrecked sailors - who usually turn up dead anyway, and even if they don't they can never enjoy her watery lair. Nope - she's a very sensible mermaid and has fallen in love with a fish instead... I'm not entirely sure what the fish's views are on this - I suspect a bit of a one-sided relationship, but I hope he will be happy with his slippery bride.

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell - drawing after William Blake - signed giclee art print - 18.5x12.5 inches

Image size is about 18.5 x 12.5inches (about 47 x 32 cm), paper size is A3+ (13x19 inches). This is a signed 'giclee' print, on Archival Matte paper with pigment inks. Please note - there is no 'copyright' text on the actual print.

This drawing was done for an exhibition to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of artist, visionary and poet William Blake. The initial starting point was the title of William Blake's 'prophetic' book "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell". Blake rejected the established church, though not religion per se, seeing rather the church's views of 'evil' and the Devil as the imaginative, creative drive which the church would control and suppress. As Blake's 'voice of the Devil' declares: "those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained".

So this drawing started as a kind of 'reconciliation' between Heaven and Hell, but its main subject is the anger, horror, alarm and confusion of the 'good' church-goers whose world is undermined because they no-longer have an enemy they can blame and rant against. There are outbreaks of violence, religious fervor, occasional nudity and general chaos..

This print is one of the ‘Drinking Girls’ from a series of my miniature paintings. The 'Drinking Girls' are of course not very girly at all, but they all have a drink and, I hope, an occasional twist of the unexpected. This is a print of one of my paintings - the story goes something like this: So Hell has workers. Workers have rights, and most importantly workers have coffee breaks, where they can sit around and bitch about the management... Well, that's where I'd got to with 'Coffee Break' - a previous devil picture - this is merely the next stop for the train of thought. You see, the devils don't really have any strong feelings about the dammed - they're just there, all over the place - they're just part of the furniture. Ok, yes they have to do a bit of persecuting now and then, but they've got eternity for that, and a hard-working she-devil has to stop for cake now and then. This lot are probably middle management, and take liberties all the time

'Medusa's Gimps'

Well now, Medusa has a new career. This is Medusa the Dominatrix - you see the Gimps here are fine because as long as they keep on their gimp masks there is no danger of their turning to stone, but this has obviously struck a certain - ah - latent domineering streak in Medusa, who is taking to her role with quite a degree of enthusiasm.

Unfortunately it would appear that Medusa is also a bit of a Chav. A Chav with style, mind you... and still a formidable lady, but nonetheless the sort who believe orange velvet, pink candy-stripes, faux fur, and white leather upholstery to be the last word in interior decor. And who's to argue with her? Even the Snakes are kept happy with their min-afternoon snack.

Medusa and Oedipus - art print

Medusa and Oedipus: the Gorgon's New Man

This is a print of one of my paintings. Image size is about 8x10 inches (20x25cm). The print is signed, and printed on Archival Matte paper with pigment inks. Please note - there is no text on the actual print.

Now this picture is a strange one, but it was high time I did something about Medusa's total inability to get herself a man. Obviously any visitor and prospective 'suitor' is instantly turned to stone as soon as she opens the door to them - a couple of times I've painted her clearly expecting company (two glasses of wine poured out, sadly one of them untouched) and in fact twice she's been on her way out for the evening. So I rather thought Medusa might be beginning to get a little fed up with this whole isolation thing.

And so I set her up with Oedipus - handy, as another figure from Greek Legend, though usually shown in a more gruesome aspect. And nicely tying up two tragedies into one happy ending... Sophocles would be turning in his grave, but really - they're a perfect match - I mean, Medusa is actually pretty desperate and so likely to be happy with anyone, and Oedipus is hardly known for his ability to pick women (and it has to be said that even dating a Gorgon is probably less embarrassing than finding out you've accidentally been... well, with your own mother...).

This is a print from a series of miniatures - Meduas (Veiled) – the original Femme Fatale.

This print is one of the ‘Drinking Girls’ from a series of my miniature paintings. The 'Drinking Girls' are of course not very girly at all, but they all have a drink and, I hope, an occasional twist of the unexpected. I have gone through most of the obvious parings of mythical creatures with their drinks, though there is plenty of scope for more.

'Medusa's Gimps'

Well now, Medusa has a new career. This is Medusa the Dominatrix - you see the Gimps here are fine because as long as they keep on their gimp masks there is no danger of their turning to stone, but this has obviously struck a certain - ah - latent domineering streak in Medusa, who is taking to her role with quite a degree of enthusiasm.

Unfortunately it would appear that Medusa is also a bit of a Chav. A Chav with style, mind you... and still a formidable lady, but nonetheless the sort who believe orange velvet, pink candy-stripes, faux fur, and white leather upholstery to be the last word in interior decor. And who's to argue with her? Even the Snakes are kept happy with their min-afternoon snack.

This is a print from a series of miniatures - ‘Bloody Mary’ or ‘Vampire at a Cocktail Party’… yes of course that’s Tomato Juice she’s drinking!

About the Image:
This is a picture about Vampires, old and new. Let me be clear: there are no mortal people in this picture, only Vampires. The Nouveaux Morts are ‘making friends’. Trying their best to impress their guests, they are serving blood in sophisticated little cocktail glasses decorated with eyeballs on sticks, in much the same way as one might ruin a fine vintage port by dousing it with bitter lemon. There are probably ice cubes and, Hell forbid, there probably really is bitter lemon in there somewhere too. Some of the guests are doing their utmost to be tolerant in the hope that the effort will be to their ultimate advantage; nonetheless these ancient and evil Creatures of the Night are finding it hard to come to terms with such depraved behavior as this.

About the image:
Demons are quite keen on social gatherings, and frequently have cocktail parties. Angels, on the other hand, tend to be a bit smug and aloof; though a few of the better-connected angels may receive a grudging invitation now and then, in the same way that distant but curiously well-connected relatives get invited to important events. So one shouldn't be all that surprised to find Angels and Demons occasionally rubbing shoulders together.
This scene, however, is not a case in point. This Angel is quite obviously not invited and is rather pursuing a lamentable and somewhat recent pastime popular amongst the lower orders of angels, that of looking for 'a bit of rough'.

This is a print of one of my paintings - 'Medusa in Venus' Bedroom' - This one was to some extent inspired by the 'Rokeby Venus' by Diego Velázquez - which hangs in the National Gallery. Of course there's rather less danger in seeing Venus face to face - in my version it's Medusa who's seen in the mirror, which makes a lot more sense to my mind... No wonder Cupid is covering his face - one glance from her and he's a garden ornament!

'Fornicating Fairies I'
