Make a major cocktail splash with this tropical drink! One part baby leopard print. (Yes, the actual baby leopard printed on fabric.) Mix with two parts lush Hawaiian print in finished pima cotton, spiked with orange hibiscus. Garnish with a super amazing and handmade, vintage button lariat. A simple shift becomes exotic and bold.

Sitting atop the leopard print, a bias cut yoke crowns the front in yummy tropical floral. Shaping droops and slacks somewhat, while retaining a boatneck line at the collar bone. The lush Hawaiian print pulls colors from the leopard and brightens the dress all around. The back closes with an invisible zipper. The interior is fully lined in thick, golden, matte satin, giving the piece a substantial weight and drape.

But thanks for the crib sheet! It has become an amazing blouse. Loaded with style, the details are fabulous and really lends the Chinese theme a Mountainous backdrop. With swooping lines, the contrasting panels incorporate all the bust darts into seams. The pink floral of the bodice and short sleeves picks up on the childrens outfits and is reminiscent of an Asian cotton print. The contrasting panels corner around the back for a sleek finish of hazy blue buttons.

What a wondrous sight to behold! Virgin and Child worked in meticulous cross stitch, then worked onto the back of this elegant and sophisticated blouse, made of a rayon crepe of the holiest blue. Brilliant orange and white silk threads make a novelty weave in a checkerboard pattern and lend bright color cues to the Madonna.

The blouse buttons up to the collar and has a built in ascot scarf, exquisitely draped down the front. Long buttoned sleeves lend that super dressy look, while the tucks, front and back, cinch it in at the waist for a fabulous form fit. Made for the figure measuring 42 inches in the bust, 36 inches in the waist and 45 inches in the hip.

Wash this at home in cold water with gentle soap. Do not wring, but squeeze the water from the neck to the hem, then lay flat on a towel, roll it up and press to absorb any excess water. Lay flat to dry completely, iron with a rayon setting on the wrong side of the shirt. Press the cross stitch directly, if necessary, with a hot iron and a pressing cloth. It can also be dry cleaned.

Vintage Los Angeles Tablecloth Map - 1940's style cropped jacket - Women's size 4

So Dustbowl, so Noir, I'm thinking Rose of Sharon Joad meets Cora Papadakis. And fittingly, this fabulous cropped jacket is constructed from a vintage "Los Angeles and Environs" tablecloth. It's nearly impossible to date, but the Brown Derby is located on Wilshire Boulevard, so presumably from the early 40's.

The short jacket is simple in design, yet loaded with style. It has deep tucks set at a slight angle to the front closure which shoot straight up to the shoulder and over to the back where it sets matching tucks. The shoulder is heightened by sewn-in pads. The sleeves are a plain white canvas, but cuffed with the gorgeous film cell border of the tablecloth. They are conspicuously curved and three-quarter length. When closed up the center front, the zipper hides in the right side overlap. A wing collar comes straight out of the front pieces. The jacket is unlined and features Pasadena, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and Chinatown (China City).

I made a vow not to sew with linens with "issues", but this tablecloth is the exception. It has, as might be expected, some age spots. Two dark spots under the right collar. There is also some ink loss, most notably on the left side near the sleeve seams, yet it is obscured for the most part under the tucks. And finally, a little blotch of ink loss near the "Los Angeles and Environs" in the midst of the orange grid. Please do not purchase this jacket if you will regret the imperfections.

This pattern was styled by the Bureau of Human Nutrition and Home Economy, and I'm sure it was to be a boxy, roomy cut. It was designed for the woman measuring 32 inches in the bust and 26 1/2 at the waist, a modern size 2 to 4.

Hand wash this jacket, in cold water with a gentle detergent, Ivory Suds for example. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze out, DO NOT RING, excess water. Then place on a clean towel, roll it up and apply pressure to remove remaining water. Then lay flat on a fresh towel and let dry completely. Press with a hot steamy iron.

A skirt and blouse set made of red and white patterned swiss dot with white polka dots. The skirt is a typical three tiered skirt and is pictured over a crinoline, not included. It has a side zipper and the waistband closes with a hook and eye. The blouse opens at the neck with three buttons for over-head dressing.

The blouse has an asymmetrical front bodice which is the perfect frame for this Tequila tea towel. I usually reject any textile that has flaws, that being said, I used this anyway. It has little holes and little stains. None of them seem to pose so big a problem that I was turned away. A close up picture is included, however I haven't circled the problems. This is not for faint of heart, someone offended by boogers. I would subtitle this outfit: Bloodstains and Bulletholes.

Made for the figure measuring 36 inches in the bust, 30 inches at the waist and 38 inches in the hips. The swiss dot is a poly-cotton blend and can be washed at home, in cold. Hang dry or use the permapress setting on the dryer. Press the tea towel with a hot iron.

This is a Fabiani design from the 1960's with a kitschy twist - the original painting incorporated into the lap seamed detail at back. Because this is an acrylic painting, please consider that it will inevitably flake and show some paint loss with time. It would be best left to air out to freshen, and spot clean to deal with soiling. Extra care need be taken to minimize contact with the back and always use a formed wooden hanger when storing.

The gorgeous calorie tea towel in true green shapes up the front, releasing soft darts from the right shoulder mimicking the v-neckline, then plunging down the side front, tucking into a figure fabulous line. A big bowl of Irish Stew, a warm hunk of soda bread with a thick slab of salty butter, and a foamy Guiness Stout. St. Patrick's Day done right. Here is the recipe, and here is the dress.

From the front a fairly unsuspecting frock, albeit the Irish Stew tea towel does monopolize the skirt. But hey! It's adorable. The happy little leprechaun stirs his stew while his little friends wait for dinner, while an anthropomorphic potato and onion cower in fear, waiting to be diced.

The bodice is empire waisted and sleeveless. But the really fabulous feature of this design is the back. The back neckline scoops out for a surprising reveal, highlighted by the two lime green buttons fastened into the bound buttonholes. Then in a cascade of skirt gone wild, a practical bustle bursts out of the waist band swinging in movement.

Like a field of grass after a spring rain, the thick weight cotton gauze of this dress is a refreshing kelly green. Striped with chartreuse and tiny stripes of blue, it matches perfectly with the made in Ireland, pure linen tea towel. The bodice is self lined and the skirt is lined in a thin, silky green fabric.

Outlawed in the U.S. and Europe, the cock fight is a brutal blood sport. Gamecocks, as they are called, are specially bred birds, conditioned for increased stamina and strength and possess congenital aggression toward all males of the same species. In many other areas around the world it is still practiced as a mainstream event, in some countries it is even government controlled.

At once beautiful and heinous, the fight to the death image of two roosters at each others throats is a quintessential symbol of machismo. This particular needlepoint canvas comes from Belgium and was completed on the date 23-4-74. Worked in wool on a field of black, the two blue roosters meet in the middle, struggling for a hold against a splotch of blood red. Feathers fly in a halo of violence, their razor talons slice the air.

Turn the coat to the front and you have an everyday casual example of the benign Pendleton sports jacket. It is made from a piece of genuine Pendleton wool, from the Pendleton, Oregon woolen mill. The plaid is red and blue on a gray background, a perfect match for the needlepoint. The jacket was constructed to last forever, like a well preserved Pendleton shirt should. The seaming is flat-felled, the coat is completely lined in navy blue rayon and the entire coat is top-stitched. It has a convertible collar, the front patch pockets match the plaid, the back panel gathers into the back yoke and hem band. Long band cuffed sleeves are fastened in black buttons, as is the front closure.

A men's size large, this is made for a 42 inch chest. It is 24 inches in length and the arms measure 35 inches long.

Giraffes are tall. They eat leaves. They sleep standing up. They are covered in spots. They are from Africa and live in zoos. Giraffes run very fast and are very quiet. Giraffes are beautiful.

Rich orange wool surrounds adorable needlepoint in this breathtaking skirt and blazer set. The back is entirely needlepoint, giraffe among the flowers. Up front, classic styling features tailored lapel and three-button closure. (Three giraffe buttons no less.) Pocket panels extend fully across the front with U-shaped top stitching at pocket opening, mimicking the rounded lines of the front edges. Lining matches skirt.

Skirt suspends off shoulders, kicking box pleats in fantastically printed cotton. Two button holes per suspender let's her grow a bit. Child's size 4 fits 23 inch breast and 21 inch waist.

Cold water wash the skirt at home, with hot iron smooth soft pleats. The blazer, however, requires dry cleaning or, the at home equivalent of spot cleaning and airing out. Do not give this giraffe a bath.

A super delightful winter coat and hat for your little bundle of joy! Fully lined, with patch pockets for little hands, the coat has a Peter Pan collar and two rows of buttons up the front. Bound-button holes work up the left side, finished for a boy, but made for both.

The entire back of this raglan-sleeved, mock double-breasted jacket is made of a fabulous needlepoint pillow, spelling "Joy", with delicious floral scrolls done in cross stitch for backdrop. Pairing with the diamond patterned brushed wool of caramel and chocolate tweed, the colors bring out the best in each other.

"JOY" stands out in shades of coral. Dated 1978, this was a sampler of sorts, using a Milanese stitch for the "J", the Hungarian stitch for the "O" and the Woven Cross for the "Y".

This strapless dress is made from a wide striped emerald green dupioni silk. A corseted underblouse fits securely with a tighter fit, seam boning, a gros grain waist belt, and milliner's wire shaping across the front roll line. The underblouse is sewn into the dress and fits the form without ease. The dress, however, has ease and was designed to obscure the built-in foundation garment. A size 8, this is made to fit a figure measuring 36 inches in the bust, 28 inches in the waist and 39 at the hips.

The matching jacket has a sloping hem line and buttons on the left side. It features bound button holes and the top button hole is hidden in the collar seam. The large buttons accent the jacket and bring out the emerald coloring from the dress. The sleeves are three-quarter length, kimono styling in the front and set-in in the back. If you can't make it to Spain this spring, bring Spain to you! This is a terrific style in a fabulous colorway with an amazing flannel wall rug featuring the studly bullfighter and his admirable opponent.

Featuring a basque bodice and very short unmounted sleeves, it's shallow bateau neck scoops slightly in the back. The vintage drapery fabric in pinks, reds and oranges is paired with a large zig-zag eyelet on the center front piece of bodice for a decidedly Spanish flair. Black piping highlights the bodice seams, neckline, sleeve edges and the skirt hem.

The wrapped bell skirt features a richly colored bullfighting scene, on a deep maroon sky, the stands are filled with spectators and his cape is safety orange! Box pleats stiffen the skirt for a great shape, accentuating the hourglass figure. The thick cotton drapery is reminiscent of 1970's wallpaper, layering color and abstract patterns in eye-popping complexity - it's a great balance on the asymmetrical skirt. I remember getting up early with my brother on Saturday morning, to try and watch as many cartoons and eat as many bowls of cereal as I could before my parents got up and made us turn it off. If we were lucky, they would sleep in and wake up slowly, demanding chores when the best of the morning's viewing was over.

It was a weekly ritual I shared with the majority of American kids in the 1970's. We were the first generation affected by the new trend targeting advertising specifically to kids. Hence the significant cartoon block on Saturday's with commercial breaks for sugary cereals and toys we must have. Ironically, the stuff of our childhood has become collectible, with comic books valued at the price of a new house and our old toys insured just like our cars. For instance, a Superfriends bed sheet goes for a pretty penny on ebay.

This one is printed with "copyright DC Comics, INC. 1977". Featuring Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog, the first set of "junior superfriends" who were later replaced with the Wonder Twins whose powers were activated by contacted fists. I digress.

There is only one design that can stand up to this bedsheet and you're looking at it. For starter's, a handmade WonderWoman logo patch grabs the eye and won't let go as it sits in grand Super Hero fashion on the center front of the bodice. Made from a soft yellow burlap, the edges were tightly zig-zagged as was the whole design. Bits of burlap peak through here and there, in all a super charming piece of Americana.

Framing the Wonder Woman badge is the stunning and sophisticated fichu. Of an lovely shade of turquoise, the floral brocade satin demands that this otherwise childish design be taken seriously as an adult cocktail dress. Sweeping across the shoulders, it's broad collar tucks into the slim and smooth midriff which on the downside lets out an explosion of dirndl.

Made for the petite form, this dress fits a 31 1/2 inch bust, 24 1/2 inch waist and 33 1/2 inch hips, a modern size 1. It's finished with an invisible side zipper which opens up to the armhole seam for easy over the head dressing. Dry clean only.

Jumper and shift team up to bring both form and function to this spectacular art piece: Yours is the Earth and Everything in it. Cross-stitched to perfection, linen, worked in silk thread, was formerly framed and undoubtedly the pride of the parlor. It's sweet pea greens, eggplant purples and radish reds parade the border of the jumper's back bodice. Colors repeat in skirt and blouse, surrounding the linen in green gingham and striped brown cotton twill. Fitting the size 8 child, she'll be wearing this one a while; it's finished chest measures 28 1/2 inches and has a loose waist measuring 27 inches. Make sure her shoulders are broad enough to support the shoulder straps, which have a thirteen inch span.

Princess lines sculpt the front bodice which closes with matching pink buttons. The gently gathered skirt provides extra dressing room and snaps in place with a wide continuous lap, extending the front opening. The adorable ruffled and puffed gingham shift can be worn any number of ways. Alone, with pants, or over a turtleneck it is just a hair shorter than the jumper. Made of cotton with a small quantity of lycra, this is a simple over-the-head slip on and is easily laundered. Along with the jumper, just machine wash cold. Hang it to dry and crisp with a hot iron.

A splash of map navigates it's way across the front of this adorable frock. This linen tablecloth of Alaska has a fabulous gauzy texture backing a fine green ribbon of county lines and vibrant red and yellow landmarks. A buttery thick cotton crinkle tops the yoke trimmed in a red linen ruffle. But turn around and the statement is made! Alaska yells across the back bodice, nestled between totem poles; the piece de resistance of this classic souvenir tablecloth. Puffy sleeved and belted, this over-the-head dress buttons up the front with bright yellow sunshine buttons (and for a little extra room snaps up at the left side waist). The heavy crinkle completes the skirt back and in fact is used as lining in the front, stiffening the gathered tablecloth for extra body.
