Nouveau Style Rose Tile

$30.00
This decorative tile is inspired by the designs of the Nouveau era. This one I call "Rose", and depicts 3 blooms of roses in an ornate vase. Raised lines hold and separate the glossy crackle glazes. I've used 4 different colors for this one - goldenrod yellow for the background, claret maroon for the blooms, forest green for the leaves and stems, and turquoise for the vase. Each one of these glazes had to be carefully painted inside the lines.

The tile measures approximately 4x4", and would make a lovely highlight to any kitchen or bath.

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks for being a great community
Dem Bones Skeleton Tile - Magnet

$10.00
This little guy is looking out through a window...or is he looking in at you? SPOOKY, yet charming, any time of the year!!

I created this small tile by pressing one of my clay stamps into a piece of porcelain clay. I glazed the tile in an underglaze red, then wiped off the surface, leaving the white clay body showing through. Then I glazed over the whole tile with a clear crackle. It measures about 1 7/8" square. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back.

You can order this one without the magnet for use in mosaic projects - just convo me and let me know.

I'm experimenting with some of my moulds from my tile past - I made this one about 10 years ago and just found it while clearing out a shelf and moving boxes! I'll be making and listing more of my "past history" soon...keep posted!

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community.

Gypsy Mushroom - Handmade Tile

I love the form, style, and flavors of each individual mushroom.

Here is one mushroom tile in a series of six that I've designed. This one is my own design of a gypsy mushroom. I carved the design in wax, then poured a plaster mould. After pressing the plaster into soft porcelain clay and firing it, I glazed the tile with a transparent azure blue crackle glaze. It measures about 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. A lovely tile to use in your kitchen, bath, fireplace, or set it on the window sill!

This tile can be glazed in any of our stock colors that you find here on etsy - please convo me with any questions.

Tea Cup Tile - Hand Carved

$12.00
Three o'clock is my afternoon tea break - make mine a chai, please!

I'm having great fun with my newest tile series...a day in my life! I took a small slab of porcelain clay, and when it had stiffened up a bit I carved a stylized image of a steaming cup of afternoon restitude into the clay. After a bisque firing, I glazed the cup in my glossy transparent lime green, the tea (or coffee, if you prefer!) and rising steam in goldenrod, and the background in light brown gloss transparent crackle. It measures approximately 1 7/8" wide X 2 3/8" high, and is signed and dated on the back -

5/1/09 "cup of goodness" Linda Ellett

I carved a small hole in the back for hanging. I can also attach a super strong magnet to the back if you'd like - let me know and I'll make it so!

My break at 3pm coincides with the break I took with my son when he got home from school throughout his middle and high school years, even though he is now a freshman at Cornell....yes, I'm a creature of habit!

Please convo me with questions.
Sunflower Bowl - Turquoise and Aqua

$28.00
This small organic bowl started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I cut into a circle and then impressed with my "Sunflower" plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!). I added more details to the background by impressing it with some of my handmade stamps - lacey flowers and a border surrounding the sunflower. I then laid it over a round slump mould I made, and added 3 small coiled feet to the bottom. It measures about 6" across and 1 1/4" high. I've glazed the sunflower section and most of the interior in a glossy transparent turquoise green, with a line around the sunflowr and a line around the edge in a bright azure blue. The back is also glazed in azure blue. The bowl is nicely off-center and fits nicely into your hands. The glazes are mid-range stoneware and non-lead.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes. Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community!

Use it to hold that messy cooking spoon, coins, or trinkets.

I impressed a thin slab of clay with my Bird on Branch plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!) and let the clay take its natural shape. I've selected 3 of my most popular tiny tiles and grouped them together for the holiday season.

You'll receive these 3 tiles - a peace dove on a branch glazed in azure blue - approximately 2 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall, a peace dove flying glazed in turquoise - measures 1 3/4" X 2 1/4", and an Angel and Star glazed in goldenrod yellow - which is about 1 7/8" wide x 2" tall.

I carve my images in wax and then pour a plaster mould.
Spider Wall Hanging - Handmade Ceramic Tile with Handmade Beads

$16.00
This handmade ceramic tile has the image of a spider with a flowery border, and is hung on a twisted wire with 2 of my handmade beads included......a great decoration to hang on the wall for the spider lovers among you!!!

I created this tile by pressing one of my handmade clay stamps into a piece of porcelain clay, and then pressing another of my handmade stamps all around the spider. I cut it into a rectangle, drilled holes in the top corners, and fired it a first time. After it came out of the kiln, I rubbed black under glaze into the pattern, and after rubbing it off of the raised design, I hand applied a turquoise green transparent glaze to the background and yellow to the spider, and fired it a second time. A lot of time to create this little tile!!

To finish the tile for hanging, I twisted steel wire and used 2 of my handmade Egyptian paste beads as accents at the bottom of the wire. The tile measures about 2 1/4" across, 3 1/8" high. The wire length is about 3" high, making the whole hanging about 6 1/2".

This is a one of a kind tile hanging!

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community.

And if you live in the Northeast, like I do, you better get ready for it!

The image of this snowman has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one with a transparent azure blue crackle. A small ribbon for hanging is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 1/2 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

I carved the image in wax and then poured a plaster mould. After extruding a thin slab of porcelain clay, the plaster mould is pressed into the clay, the tile is cut around the edges. After drying, the edges are sponged, the tile is fired, glazed, and fired again. A lot of work for a little piece of art! Each one is slightly different - because they're handmade!

If you'd prefer to have it made into a magnet or pin - just let me know and I'll make it so!

Everyone of my small ornaments and magnets come packaged in a small cellophane bag with a decorative card....perfect for gift giving!

Find all of my ornaments right here -
http://www.etsy.com/shop/lesperancetile?section_id=5195581

Please convo me with any questions. Nothing! And that's just what the Victorian's did in their holiday postcards!

I just love the imagery and decided to create a series of large decorative tiles in their honour. Based on an Easter greeting postcard from around 1910, I carved the image in wax and cast a plaster mould. After extruding a slab of porcelain clay, I pressed the mould into it and cut and sponged the edges. After firing the tile I glazed it in a glossy transparent turquoise green crackle and fired it a second time. This tile measures approximately 5 1/8" tall X 6 7/8" wide.

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks!!

Small Tray - Flying Carpet Design

$16.00
Here's a new line of functional pieces that I was inspired to make after playing with some of my handmade tile stamps. They remind me of Flying Carpets. Use these trays to hold snacks, appetizers, hot pots....anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This small tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with one of my hand carved tile stamps. I then laid it over a slump mould I made, and added 2 small coiled and stamped feet to the bottom. It measures about 3" wide X 5 1/8" long, and about 1" high on the ends. I've glazed the center section in a combination of dark maroon and mottled copper green matte, with the "fringes" of the tray in gloss black. The glazes are mid-range stoneware and non-lead.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my handmade stamps and tile moulds to create these tile-like trays. Petroglyphs at Three Rivers were created by Jornada Mogollon people between about 900 and 1400 AD, and are particularly inspiring to me. The image is a simple line drawing of a prairie dog. I've recreated the design with a raised line on this hand-pressed tile which measures approximately 4" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. It's glazed in our soft textured moss stoneware matte, which really highlights the image.

Please convo me with any questions...and thanks for being a great community!!

I love the form, style, and flavors of each individual mushroom.

Here is one mushroom tile in a series of six that I've designed. This one is my own design of that ubiquitous, everyday mushroom - an Inky Cap.

I carved the design from nature in wax, then poured a plaster mould. After pressing the plaster into soft porcelain clay and firing it, I glazed this tile with a transparent fern green crackle glaze. It measures about 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. A lovely tile to use in your kitchen, bath, fireplace, or set it on the window sill!

This tile can be glazed in any of our stock colors that you find here on etsy - please convo me with any questions.

It measures approximately 2 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall, and this one is glazed in my lovely turquoise crackle. A small ribbon for hanging is securely attached to the back.

I carved the image in wax and then poured a plaster mould. Damaging all but 6 ears of corn along with the corn stalks I planned for festive fall decorations made this bug a very unwelcome visitor to my garden.
Considered a major pest to corn and other crops, the various stages of the European Corn Borer are destructive, yet well designed.

The image on this tile is based on an old engraving found in a book of common garden pests. I became familiar with a number of them that year - watch for more tiles to be carved in their honor, in hopes of keeping the little demons at bay.

I carved the design in wax, poured a plaster mould, and then pressed the mould into a slab of wet clay. This tile measures approximately 5 5/8" long x 4 1/4" high, and is glazed in our gloss crackle Azure Blue. Enjoy this quirky, yet informative tile!

Please convo me with any questions.

Each glaze is hand-painted into the different sections. The "steam" glaze is created by dabbing a number of different glazes on top of each other - I call it "mottling". The tile measures approximately 5 3/4" square, varying slightly due to it's handmade nature.

This tile would make a great highlight to your kitchen backsplash, or set it on the windowsill!

Please convo me with any questions or special requests. A very unique and beautiful combination! It measures approximately 3" wide x 3 1/2" long and almost 1" at it's tallest points. Use it to hold that messy cooking spoon, coins, or trinkets.

I impressed a thin slab of clay with my "Peace Bird Flying" plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!) and let the clay take it's natural shape. They remind me of Flying Carpets. Use these trays to hold snacks, appetizers, hot pots....anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This small tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with a few of my handmade stamps. I then laid it over a slump mould I made, and added 2 small coiled and stamped feet to the bottom. It measures about 4 1/4" wide X 6 1/4" long, and about 3/4" high. I've glazed the center flower section in a peach satin matte, the row of "marching ants" in a mottled gloss transparent blue, and the triangle "fringe" in black with peach showing through. The tray is nicely off-center and very light. The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my handmade stamps and tile moulds to create these tile-like trays. I then used another of my stamps, a floral sunburst, to stamp the rest of the slab around the Bird.

After laying it over a round slump mould I made, I added 3 small coiled feet to the bottom, which the bowl sits proudly on. It measures about 6" across and 1 1/2" high. I've glazed this bowl in 3 different glazes. The center area is glazed in a lovely satin shino brown matte. Then I dipped the edge in an aqua green matte, and finished the edge with gloss black, which flows nicely down the edges. I also painted a thin line of black around the bird section, to highlight it a bit. This is a lovely, organic bowl, which will make any area it sits in proud to have it!! The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes.
Creel Basket Tile - Walden Green

$20.00
For the fly fisherman or woman - this lovely tile is part of a set of decorative images based on the sport of fly fishing. I designed and carved them for a commissioned kitchen backsplash in an Adirondack cabin.

This 4x4" handmade tile depicts a creel basket used in the popular sport of fly fishing. Historically, the basket was used to carry the catch of the day, now it's a very popular Adirondack decorating item. I carved the image in wax and poured a plaster mould. After pressing the mould into soft porcelain clay, I fired it and then glazed in in my walden green, which highlights the details beautifully.

Please convo me with questions or special requests - thanks!!

Tea Cup - Hand Carved Tile

I took a small slab of porcelain clay, and when it had stiffened up a bit I carved a stylized image of a steaming cup of tea (it can also be coffee) into the clay. After a bisque firing, I glazed the cup in my glossy transparent teal, the tea (or coffee, if you prefer!) and rising steam in light brown, and the background in turquoise gloss transparent crackle. It measures approximately 1 3/4" wide X 2 3/8" high, and is signed and dated on the back -

4/29/09 "Morning Tea" Linda Ellett

I carved a small hole in the back for hanging, but this is a small, light tile - so I can also attach a super strong magnet to the back if you'd like - let me know and I'll make it so!

My morning tea is dark and caffeinated......gets the cobwebs out so I can jump into my studio nice and early!

Please convo me with questions.
Snowman Tile Ornament

I've glazed this one with an under-glaze black, which was rubbed into the recessed areas, and then over-glazed with a transparent gloss crackle, with a touch of under-glaze red on his scarf - a festive little detail! I've glued a small ribbon onto the back of this delicately carved tile to let you hang it in that special place. It measures approximately 1 5/8" x 2 1/8".

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community!
Rabbit Woodland Concerto - Victorian Postcard Tile

After firing the tile I rubbed black underglaze into the details, then overglazed it in a glossy transparent turquoise green crackle and fired it a second time. This tile measures approximately 5 1/8" tall X 6 7/8" wide.

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks!!

The squirrel section is glazed in my rich Goldenrod yellow, the oak leaves are glazed in lovely Walden green. I use transparent crackle glazes which flow from the raised pattern and pool deeper in the recessed areas. The tile measures approximately 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature.

I carved the pattern in wax, and poured a plaster mould.
Medieval Lion Tile in Oak Frame

Is he a post modernist bad boy? Not at all. His image was originally found on floor tiles in medieval sites of worship. We found the pattern on a tile research trip to England in an abbey of great disrepair. Originally made by Cisterician monks, this whimsical tile depicts a lion with a wild mane entangled with acorns and oak leaves. It measures approximately 4" x 4", varying slightly due to its handmade nature, and is glazed in our rich azure blue crackle glaze.

The tile is set in an oak frame handcrafted by a neighbor, who is an accomplished woodworker. The frame measures approximately 6 3/4" square, with an opening of 3 3/4". There is a hole in the back for hanging. This is a collectible piece of art!

Please convo us with any questions. And thanks for being a great community.

Small Dish - Dahlia Flower

$28.00
This small organic dish started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I cut into a circle and then impressed with my "Dahlia" plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!). I then used another of my handmade stamps to create a border around the flower.

After laying it over a round slump mould I made, I added 3 small coiled feet to the bottom, which the bowl sits proudly on. It measures about 6" across and 1 1/2" high. I've glazed this bowl in 4 different glazes. The ornamental flower is glazed in a transparent gloss cobalt blue. Then I dipped the edge in cream matte, and finished the edge with gloss black, which flows nicely down the edges. I also painted a circular area around the flower in gloss turquoise blue, which highlights the added stamped area.
Skeleton Tile hanger with beads

I cut it into a rectangle, drilled holes in the top corners, and fired it a first time. After it came out of the kiln, I rubbed black under glaze into the pattern, and after rubbing it off of the raised design, I hand applied a transparent yellow crackle glaze to the skeleton, and maroon to the coral pattern, and fired it a second time. A lot of time to create this little tile!!

To finish the tile for hanging, I twisted steel wire and used 2 of my handmade beads, glazed in sunny yellow, as accents at the bottom of the wire. The tile measures about 2 1/4" across, 3 1/4" high. The wire length is about 3 1/2" high, making the whole hanging about 6 3/4".

This is a one of a kind tile hanging!

Please convo me with any questions.
Angels and Urn - Handmade Tile

$30.00
This beautiful handmade tile is produced in the style of the Victorian era. The finely carved details depict a large central urn flanked on either side by foliage and angels. The sculpture this image is based on was original to Trajan's Forum in Rome. I've used an underglaze black to highlight the details, and after wiping off the excess, I glazed the whole tile in turquoise green. It measures approximately 6 5/8" long x 4" high, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. What a wonderful focal point for your fireplace or kitchen!

I carved the tile in wax, poured a plaster mould, pressed the tile into a slab of porcelain clay with my homemade hand press, fired, glazed, and refired it.

I just love to carve. Most of my tile designs are carved in wax, because I like the surface texture of it. People ask me what kind of wax I carve in - well, here's my secret formula - "Holy Wax". My Mom, who is very active in her church, and just can't throw anything away, collects all the partially burned candles that would otherwise get trashed. I melt them and pour slabs of wax in an enameled pan that creates a large blank canvas of wax for me. There's hardly anything better than a large blank canvas of wax...well, maybe a large slab of chocolate....dark chocolate.

And I have a long and syncratic story about this tile that I'll tell in a blog someday. I know I made the word syncratic up...but there was so much synchronicity involved.

Please convo me with any questions...and thanks for being a great community!
Convo me if you'd like more than one.

This charming handmade tile depicts an acorn cap surrounded by 4 acorns, four oak leaves and 4 more acorns nestled in the edges of the leaves. The image is inspired from Victorian era design. I've glazed this tile in our goldenrod yellow - a rich transparent crackle glaze that flows from the raised pattern and pools deeper in the recessed areas. It measures approximately 4" x 4", varying slightly due to it's handmade nature.

I carved the design in wax, then poured a plaster mould. The mould is then handpressed into wet porcelain clay, fired, glazed, and fired again. A beautiful tile to set in your kitchen or fireplace.

Please convo me with any questions or special glaze color requests. Thanks!!

They remind me of Flying Carpets. Use this trays to hold snacks or appetizers......anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This decorative tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with one of my handmade tile stamps, which makes up the central part of the design. I embellished it with a border and "fringe" with 2 more of my own stamps. I then laid it over a slump mould I made, and added 4 small coiled and stamped feet to the bottom. It measures about 4" wide X 8 1/4" long, and about 1 1/4" high at the ends. I've glazed the center flower section in a peach satin matte, the border around it in a mottled azure blue, and the "fringe" ends in turquoise. The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my handmade stamps and tile moulds to create these tile-inspired trays. This is the first of two fly designs. I originally designed them for the kitchen back-splash of an Adirondack lodge. The details are carved in relief, and the tile is glazed in our rich Fern Green crackle.

All my tiles are pressed into porcelain slabs on a homemade hand press. I carve all the designs in wax, clay, or plasticine, and then pour plaster moulds of the patterns.

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks!!

This charming tile depicts three rabbits running in an enclosed circle with clovers and leaflets in each corner.

We've reproduced the pattern and pressed it in porcelain clay and glazed it in one of our Victorian style glazes, a rich and bright Azure Blue. It measures approximately 4" x 4", varying slightly due to its handmade nature. Set this tile as a highlight in your fireplace facade, kitchen backsplash, or bath.

All of our tiles are handmade in our studios in upstate New York and have been for 30 years.

Please convo me with any questions.
Serving Tray - Flying Carpet Design

They remind me of Flying Carpets. Use these trays to hold snacks, appetizers, sushi....anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This small tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with a few of my handmade stamps. I then laid it over a slump mould I made, and added 2 small coiled and stamped feet to the bottom. It measures about 4 3/4" wide X 7 1/2" long, and about 1 1/4" high. I've hand glazed the tray with 4 glossy opaque glazes - peach, green, purple, and black. The tray is nicely off-center and very organic. The glazes are mid-range stoneware and non-lead.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my handmade stamps and tile moulds to create these tile-like trays. Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community!

I've glazed this one in a transparent fern green crackle. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

If you'd prefer to have it made into a pin or a hanging ornament - just let me know and I'll make it so!

Please convo me with any questions.
Tile Magnet - Health Care Reform Now

We need to get on board to make this happen, NOW!

This handmade tile addresses a most important issue. It's time to get serious about the health care we provide in these great United States.

I pressed one of my small skeleton plaster moulds into soft clay and then stamped the message around it. After pouring a plaster mould I hand pressed the tile into porcelain clay and fired it a first time. For glazing I washed black underglaze over the tile, wiping off the excess, and glazed it all over with my glossy blue/green. It measures about 2 1/2" wide X 3 1/4" high. I can attach a severely strong neodymium magnet to the back - or leave it plain - your choice.

50% of all proceeds from the sale of this tile will be donated to
HEALTH CARE FOR AMERICA NOW

the other 50% will be used to pay for my family health care.

Thanks for looking!

For more info on Health Care Reform - please visit
http://www.healthcareforamericanow.org/
I then used another of my stamps, a floral sunburst, to stamp the rest of the slab around the Squirrel.

I also painted a thin line of black around the squirrel section, to highlight it a bit. This is a lovely, organic bowl, which will make any area it sits in proud to have it!! The glazes are mid-range stoneware and non-lead.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes. The squirrel section is glazed in my rich Goldenrod yellow, the oak leaves are glazed in lovely Perkins Blue. I use transparent crackle glazes which flow from the raised pattern and pool deeper in the recessed areas. The tile measures approximately 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature.

I carved the pattern in wax, and poured a plaster mould. I took a small slab of porcelain clay, and when it had stiffened up a bit I carved a stylized image of a cup of afternoon restitude into the clay. After a bisque firing, I glazed the cup in my glossy transparent teal blue, the tea (or coffee, if you prefer!) goldenrod, and the background in turquoise gloss transparent crackle. It measures approximately 2 1/2" square, and is signed and dated on the back -

4/18/09 "Tea Break" Linda Ellett

I carved a small hole in the back for hanging.

My break at 3pm coincides with the break I took with my son when he got home from school throughout his middle and high school years, even though he is now a freshman at Cornell....yes, I'm a creature of habit!

Please convo me with questions.
Framed Tile - Baby's Adventure

$110.00
Here's an adventurous baby!

The image is a reproduction of an art tile originally produced by the JG Low Art Tile Co. of Chelsea., MA., circa 1883. I've been told it is based on a German fairy tale - but I can't find the reference myself. Wherever the inspiration came from, everyone can relate - a baby sitting gingerly on the back of a stork - perhaps being flown to it's "new home"? The tile measures 6 7/8" long x 5" high, and is glazed in a rich fern green crackle glaze. This tile deserves to be hung in a place of honor! Print out the name of a newly arrived baby on a transparent label, and this makes a one-of-a-kind baby gift!

Our tile is set in an oak frame handcrafted by a neighbor, who is an accomplished woodworker. The outside dimensions of the frame are 10 1/2" wide x 8 5/8" tall. Inside opening dimensions are 4 11/16" x 6 1/2". There is a hole in the back for hanging.

I carved the likeness in wax, poured a plaster mould, and used a hand-press to create the tile from wet clay. After firing the tile is glazed and fired again.

Please convo me with any questions or requests. Thanks!!

I love the form, style, and flavors of each individual mushroom.

Here is one mushroom tile in a series of six that I've designed. This one is my own design of that ubiquitous, everyday mushroom - I call it a Horse mushroom, because that's what it resembled most closely in my mushroom book!

I carved the design from nature in wax, then poured a plaster mould. After pressing the plaster into soft porcelain clay and firing it, I glazed this tile with a transparent fern green crackle glaze. Two of them measure about 2" square, the third measures about 1 7/8" square. I painted underglaze black on the tile and wiped it off the surface, leaving the black in the recesses to highlight the carving. Then I glazed them over with my rich azure blue gloss crackle, which blushes green in areas - very beautiful!

The designs were first carved in wax, plaster moulds were poured, then hand pressed into a thin porcelain clay slab, cut, cleaned, fired, glazed, and fired again. A lot of work for such little pieces of art! Every tile is slightly different, due to their hand made nature.

I've taken these delicately carved little tiles and attached small ribbons for hanging, securely on the backs.

Everyone of my small ornaments and magnets come packaged in a small cellophane bag with a decorative card....perfect for gift giving!

Find all of my ornaments here -
http://www.etsy.com/shop/lesperancetile?section_id=5195581

Please convo me with any questions. Nothing! And that's just what the Victorian's did in their holiday postcards!

I just love the imagery and decided to create a series of large decorative tiles in their honour. Based on an Easter greeting postcard from around 1910, I carved the image in wax and cast a plaster mould. After extruding a slab of porcelain clay, I pressed the mould into it and cut and sponged the edges. After firing the tile I glazed it in a glossy transparent fern green crackle and fired it a second time. This tile measures approximately 5 1/8" tall X 6 7/8" wide.

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks!!

After first firing, I glazed it with my rich molasses brown gloss. It measures about 1 1/4" X 1 5/8" and is very light. I made the bead by hand and impressed it in the center. It's also glazed in molasses brown. The thin leather cord measures 8" in length and is finished off with a lovely little clasp. This is a really lovely necklace!

Pictured is my niece Tessa wearing one of my pendants on an 9" cord.

I'm experimenting with using some of my moulds to create pendants, pins, and magnets. When I first found this old deck of cards, fond memories came back to me and I just had to carve them to add them to my "tiny tiles" collection!

The image of this bunny has been carved and pressed into clay to create a small tile. I've glazed this one with a transparent goldenrod yellow crackle. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

If you'd prefer to have it made into a pin or a hanging ornament - just let me know and I'll make it so!

Please convo me with any questions. This one has my glossy fern green - a rich Victorian style glaze that flows from the raised areas and pools darker into the recesses - very lovely! It measures about 6" across and 1 1/2" high. I've glazed the ornamental Bird on Branch section in a glossy iridescent textured blue. I glazed the rest of the bowl in a textured turquoise blue/green matte, with a dark gloss black along the edge - the black glaze feathers beautifully into the matte. The bowl is nicely off-center and lovely to hold. The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes. Next to the dill I've laid a small circular paper cutout, and used a rolling pin to press everything into the wet clay slab. Everything burns out in the first firing, leaving the impression of what was once there. I then painted underglaze black into the recesses, wiped it off of the surface, and glazed it all over with a glossy azure blue. The underglaze black turns the blue green in spots, making this a very mysterious and beautiful decorative tile. It measures approximately 6" square - varying slightly due to my cutting the slab by hand.

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community.

Frog Drummer - Small Tile Magnet

I've glazed this one with an underglaze black, which was rubbed into the recessed areas, and then overglazed with a transparent canary yellow crackle. A super strong magnet is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community!

European Corn Borer - Handmade Tile

For glazing, I first painted underglaze black on the tile, then wiped it off, leaving some in the recessed areas. Then I glazed it in our turquoise gloss crackle. This tile measures approximately 5 5/8" long x 4 1/4" high. Enjoy this quirky, yet informative tile!

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks!!

Use these trays to hold snacks, appetizers, hot pots....anything you'd like to display on a fancy flying carpet!

This small tray started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I stamped with a few of my handmade stamps. I've glazed the center section in my orange satin matte with a line of "fringe around the design in a textured cobalt blue gloss. The tray is nicely off-center and very light.
Skeleton hanger with beads and kitty paw prints

$16.00
This handmade tile has the image of a skeleton with a border of tiny cat paw prints surrounding it, and is hung on a twisted wire with 2 of my handmade beads included......a great decoration to hang on the wall in celebration of Halloween, or any spooky time of the year!!!

I created this tile by pressing one of my handmade pirate skeleton clay stamps into a piece of porcelain clay, and then pressing a paw print stamp all around the skeleton. I left it an irregular shape, drilled holes in the top corners, and fired it a first time. After it came out of the kiln, I rubbed black under glaze into the pattern, and after rubbing it off of the raised design, I hand applied a green transparent glaze to the hat, yellow to the skeleton, maroon to the paw prints, and fired it a second time. A lot of time to create this little tile!!

To finish the tile for hanging, I twisted steel wire and used 2 of my handmade beads, glazed in apple green, as accents at the bottom of the wire. The tile measures about 2 3/4" across, 3" high. The wire length is about 2 3/4" high, making the whole hanging about 5 3/4".

This is a one of a kind tile hanging!

Please convo me with any questions. They have an extensive collection of Inuit ivory and bone carvings that depict animals and figures from myths and legends. This design began its life based on the shape of a fish and morphed into an all seeing large toothed smiling creature that brings good luck and cheerfulness to those who contemplate him!

I carve the designs in wax, pour plaster moulds, and then press them into porcelain clay. Measuring approximately 3 7/8" wide and 5 1/2" from tip to tail, this tile is glazed in our Victorian style crackle Walden Green glaze. This stunning glaze flows from the raised details and pools darker in the recesses.

Please convo me with any questions.

Afternoon Sail - Handmade Ceramic Tile

$40.00
What's more fun than dressing up small chicks in fancy hats and scarves and imagining them sailing in eggshell sailboats past old ruins?

After firing the tile I glazed it in a glossy transparent azure blue and fired it a second time. This tile measures approximately 5 1/8" tall X 6 7/8" wide.

Please convo me with any questions. Thanks!!

It measures approximately 3" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. I've glazed the tile in an under glaze black, wiped the surface clean, leaving the black in the recessed areas, and then over glazed the whole tile in a glossy turquoise....very pretty!

I carved the tile in wax, poured a plaster mould, and hand pressed the mould into a slab of porcelain clay. The design is based on a Victorian image, where I get a lot of my inspirations!

Thanks for visiting my shop and please convo me with any questions!

After the plaster mould dried, I extruded a thin slab of porcelain and pressed it into the clay with my hand made press. I fired the tile and then glazed it in my Fern Green crackle - very lovely! I've taken this delicately carved little tile and epoxied a super strong magnet to the back. It measures about 1 1/2" tall X 2" wide. I glazed it in my rich turquoise green gloss crackle.

The design was first carved in wax, a plaster mould was poured, then hand pressed into a thin porcelain clay slab, cut, cleaned, fired, glazed, and fired again. A lot of work for such a little piece of art! Every tile is slightly different, due to their hand made nature.

I've taken this delicately carved little tile and attached a small ribbon for hanging, securely on the back.

Everyone of my small ornaments and magnets come packaged in a small cellophane bag with a decorative card....perfect for gift giving!

Please convo me with any questions. I then laid it over a round slump mould I made, and added 3 small coiled feet to the bottom. It measures about 5 1/4" across and 1 1/4" high. I've glazed the sunflower section in a mottled gloss transparent blue/green, and glazed the rest of the bowl in a lovely textured cream matte. The bowl is nicely off-center and very light. The glazes are mid-range stoneware and non-lead.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes. I love the form, style, and flavors of each individual mushroom.

Here is one mushroom tile in a series of six that I've designed. This one is my own design of that ubiquitous, everyday mushroom - very magic! I carved the design from nature in wax, then poured a plaster mould. After pressing the plaster into soft porcelain clay and firing it, I painted an underglaze black over the entire tile, wiping off the surface to leave the black in the recessed areas. The I glazed the entire tile with a transparent turquoise crackle glaze. It measures about 3 7/8" square, varying slightly due to its handmade nature. A lovely tile to use in your kitchen, bath, fireplace, or set it on the window sill!

This tile can be glazed in any of our stock colors that you find here on etsy - please convo me with any questions.

Measuring approximately 3 7/8" wide and 5 1/2" from tip to tail, this tile is glazed in my Victorian style crackle Goldenrod glaze. This one I call "Rose", and depicts 3 blooms of roses in an ornate vase. Raised lines hold and separate our glossy crackle glazes. I've used 4 different colors for this one - goldenrod yellow for the background, claret maroon for the blooms, forest green for the leaves and stems, and sky blue for the vase. Each one of these glazes had to be carefully painted inside the lines. The tile itself measures 4x4".

Our tile is set in an oak frame handcrafted by a neighbor, who is an accomplished woodworker. The frame measures approximately 6 3/4" square, with an opening of 3 3/4". There is a hole in the back for hanging. This is a collectible piece of art all by itself!

Thanks for visiting my etsy shop, and please convo me with questions or special requests. Thanks!!

Dogwood Flowers Handmade Tile

The finely carved details depict a group of dogwood flowers in bloom. The glaze is a semi-matte, textured golden/brown high fire one, which is thinner on the raised details, highlighting them in white - very beautiful!!

Convo me with any questions - and thanks for being a great community!!

I've glazed this one with my transparent goldenrod crackle. A small ribbon for hanging is securely attached to the back. It measures approximately 1 3/4 wide" x 2 1/8" tall.

All of my ornaments and magnets come packaged in a small treat bag, ready for gift giving - see last photo.

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community!

Small Dish - Sunflower

$28.00
This small organic dish started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I cut into a circle and then impressed with my "Sunflower" plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!).

I also painted a thin line of black around the sunflower section, to highlight it a bit.

Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!

Want to see a short video of me making my ornament bowls?
Necklace - Primitive Design

$14.00
I love primitive patterns of spirals, hexes, triangles and intersecting lines.

I made a small clay stamp by carving lines into it and firing it. Then I impressed a small slab of porcelain clay with the stamp. After firing it I painted underglaze black, wiped most off the surface, leaving some on the clay for detail, and glazed it over with a fern green transparent glossy glaze.

It measures about 1 3/8" X 1 1/4" and is very light. The thin leather cord measures 18" in length and is finished off with a small barrel clasp. This is a lovely pendant!

Pictured is my niece Tessa wearing one of my pendants on an 18" cord.

I'm experimenting with using some of my moulds to create pendants, pins, and magnets. I'll be making and listing more soon...keep posted!

Please convo me with any questions. And thanks for being a great community.
