These blue speckled chips have been embellished with illustrations from an old guide book to North American Mammals. This set has three members of the porpoise family: a Blackfish, a Dall Porpoise, and a pair of Harbor Porpoises.

On the backs of the tags are plain white labels, with plenty of room to list any pertinent information. Both the front and the back of the tags have been sealed with polyurethane and the tags are attached to a sturdy ball chain keyring. (I suggest you use a Sharpie or similar permanent-ink pen to record your information.)

Here's a larger version of my popular love boxes. The poem has been revised to make it from more than one person--perfect for parents to give to a child, children to give to a parent or grandparent, or for a group of friends to give to another. (I would like to thank a wonderful customer, YaGi, for this idea.)

Measuring 2-1/2" (6.35 cm) square by 1-1/2" (3.81 cm) high, this tin box has a detachable lid that is easier to grasp and to open than the smaller version. Sock Dog - Little Red the Christmas Sock Dog

Little Red is a cheerful pup who just loves to make people happy. His roly-poly belly is full of giggles.

Although it might take a second glance to notice, Little Red has ears and a tail that don't quite match his body--they're snowflake covered, while the rest of his body is cheerfully polka-dotted. No matter: they coordinate beautifully and make him a more interesting pup!

Little Red is a pudgy little bundle of fun. He's about 9-1/2" (24.13 cm) long and 5" (12.7 cm) tall. The only thing thin about him is his tail, which stands straight up in the air, announcing his arrival.

Although Little Red loves all children, he's best with older children and adults because of his button eyes and nose.

Little Red would love to come live with you. As you might have guessed, his favorite holiday is Christmas (especially if you have some milk and cookies for him!)

I know, I know: Fido is such a...doggy...name! But this guy is all dog, all day long, and is proud of his moniker.

He's a sturdy little pup, measuring 10" (25.4 cm) long by 6-1/2" (16.51 cm) tall, and packed with polyfil. He's blue, with white, green, and brown dots. This wooden mirror was first painted an ivory color, then the front was decoupaged with an old map. On top of the map, twelve "tiles" made from formica samples were decorated with reproduction luggage stickers featuring first class accomodations.

The individual tiles measure approximately 1-3/4" x 2-3/4" (4.445 cm x 6.985 cm) and are glued onto a 10" (25.4 cm) square frame. The mirror insert is about 3-3/4" (9.525 cm) square.

The "tiles" range in color from blue through green through red, and make the perfect background for the travel stickers.

This is a great gift for the world-traveler, as well as for the armchair traveler!

The reverse side is painted ivory and has a sawtooth hanger. The entire frame has been polyurethaned.

Fifi would like the world to think that she is a French poodle. What she doesn't realize is that convincing your groomer to give you a "poodle cut" does not automatically make you a poodle!

It doesn't matter; she's clearly star material, anyway. With tufts of shiny black fur on her ears, ankles, and tail, her long, full false eyelashes add the finishing touch to her beauty! Her violet button eyes and nose are the perfect accent for her black star-covered coat and are nicely highlighted by her lavender bow. (Make sure you watch her around little ones, though--those buttons might look tasty and could pose a choking hazard!)

The poem has been revised to make it from more than one person--perfect for parents to give to a child, children to give to a parent or grandparent, or for a group of friends to give to another. (I would like to thank a wonderful customer, YaGi, for this idea.)

Measuring 2-1/2" (6.35 cm) square by 1-1/2" (3.81 cm) high, this tin box has a detachable lid that is easier to grasp and to open than the smaller version. The poem is framed behind a plastic window on the lid and is in a larger, easy-to-read print. Both of these features make it the perfect gift for children or the elderly, who might have trouble opening or reading the smaller version.

Like the smaller boxes, this is a wonderful way to remind those near and dear to you just how much you love them. They're perfect to send along when your loved one is expecting a rough day--giving a speech, taking a test, or leaving on a trip. This is one of my favorite recycling projects yet!

Decorated with discarded sample tiles from the "Metals" collection of a well-known formica maker, this black-painted mirror has a decidedly modern edge. Each tile has a different metallic finish--stainless steel, aluminum, iron, bronze; some are shiny, some brushed, some textured--but they all add up to one interesting and unique wall mirror.

The individual tiles measure 2" x 2-3/4" (5.08 cm x 6.985 cm) and are glued onto a 10" (25.4 cm) square frame. The mirror insert is about 3-3/4" (9.525 cm) square.

This is the perfect mirror for a bathroom or powder room--or for any room in the house!

Decoupaged on a 10" (25.4 cm) square wooden frame are actual advertisements from 1915 and 1916 editions of the popular children's magazine, St. Nicholas.

There's a "personal hygiene" theme to the advertisements--Prophylactic Tooth Brushes, Dr. Lyon's Tooth Powder and Dental Creme, Fairy Soap, Roche's Herbal Embrocation for "Hooping Cough" or Croup, and Vaseline Camphor Ice are just some of the featured products. These are original ads, not photocopies, and are over 90 years old!

There is a 3-3/4" (9.525 cm) square mirror at the center of the frame. The frame itself has been painted black, sealed with several coats of mod podge, and followed by a coat of polyurethane. The reverse side has a sawtooth hanger.

It's a wonderful piece of history and would make a charming addition to any home.

Cherry is one sweet little doggie. The poor dear began life as an unwanted and unworn pair of socks, but look at the beauty she's become! Talk about blossoming!

Cherry is a purpley dog with multi-color stripes--and cherries adorning her ears! Her little button nose looks like a cherry, too! She's about 10" (25.4 cm) long and 5-1/2" (13.97 cm) tall. Her sweet puppy face is framed by a lavender and purple dotted bow.

Although she's not good with young children--those button eyes and nose might prove irresistible to young 'uns--she'd make a lovely addition to any (stuffed) animal lover's collection.

This little birdhouse is made entirely from recycled items: used seed packets, scrap matte board, discarded Spanish moss, and an illustration cut from an old "Birds" primer. The only new thing used in its construction is white glue. Despite being made from paper, this is a remarkably sturdy little house--it's about as strong as a milk container.

With a little varied thrush peeking out from beneath a colorful "Welcome" sign, this adorable little house measures 5" (12.7 cm) high by 4-1/4" (10.795 cm) wide by 3-l/4" (8.255 cm) deep.

This wooden pencil holder could be used for a zillion purposes: to hold pens and pencils, of course, but also to hold paintbrushes, grooming tools, memo paper, small tools--whatever will fit!

Decoupaged on the black-painted sides are actual advertisements for children's toys that appeared in the 1915 and 1916 editions of a popular children's magazine of the time, St. Nicholas. It has a "boys and their toys" theme--bicycles, canoes, fishing rods, war games, even indoor golf--but the wonderful old ads will appeal to everyone!

Small pieces of wooden dowel raise the box and provide "feet" for this one-of-a-kind piece. The box measures 3-3/4" (9.525 cm) square on top, and is 4-3/4" (12.065 cm) tall, including the feet.

It would be a fun gift for someone stuck in a cubicle--a way to "escape" into daydreams of days long gone.

These magnets were a fun recycling project.

Three advertisements from a 1915 St. Nicholas children's magazine are decoupaged onto sample formica tiles measuring 2-3/4" x 2" (6.985 cm x 5.08 cm). Strong magnets are securely glued to the back. Both sides of the tile are polyurethaned for protection.

One magnet offers personal instruction by mail to budding artists--along with a free "Artist's outfit" upon enrollment! Another advertisement is for Blaisdell fine colored pencils, while the last tells young artists to "write for the 'academic water color box for ST. NICHOLAS readers.'" Imagine: twelve tubes of quality water colors and three brushes, in a Japanned tin box for only $1.50!

These magnets would be a great addition to your studio, fridge, file cabinet--or a fun gift for the artist in your circle! They would also make great stocking stuffers.

Recycled, upcycled, repurposed--whatever you want to call it, this was a fun project!

Decorated with discarded sample tiles from the "DecoMetal" collection of a well-known formica maker, this brown-painted mirror has a decidedly modern edge. Each tile has a different metallic finish: gold, bronze, or copper. Some are shiny, some brushed, some textured--but they all add up to one interesting and unique wall mirror.

The individual tiles measure 2" x 2-3/4" (5.08 cm x 6.985 cm) and are glued onto a 10" (25.4 cm) square frame. Slightly smaller tiles form a second layer. The mirror insert is about 3-3/4" (9.525 cm) square.

The back of the mirror is painted brown and has a saw-tooth hanger.

Here's a new version of my popular love boxes. The poem has been revised to make it from more than one person--perfect for parents to give to a child, children to give to a parent or grandparent, or for a group of friends to give to another. (I would like to thank a wonderful customer, YaGi, for this idea.)
