"The Black Tower at the Edge of the Universe" is a 16 x 20 original acrylic painting on stretched canvas depicting a psychedelic, apocalyptic scene with gothic and Tarot influences.

Please click the pictures to see the full painting! I scanned this in four parts and 'stitched' the images together to show you the full picture. The bottom picture is a photo of the full painting.

A smooth, ebony black tower glistens beneath a psychedelic purple sky and red chasms erupt from the green grassy hills in the background. Strange storms churn in the sky and electricity buzzes around the monolith like electrons circling an atomic nucleus.

At the base of the tower, a rainbow waterfull trickles down the rocks like lava, and vanishes into the starry infinite universe.

This was painting on stretched canvas and the sides of the canvas are also painted, continuing the colors you see onto the sides. You could place it on the wall without framing, while you find a suitably apocalyptic frame for it!

I painted this for myself initially but I thought I might offer it up for another to enjoy. Influenced by the Tarot image of The Tower and my love of towers in mythology, fairy tales and fiction, this is meant to combine my adoration of fantasy, science fiction, horror, surrealism and occult subjects. I would love for someone with similar interests to be able to enjoy it in their home!

Due to the size, and the packaged weight (it will be around 3 pounds, probably slightly more, once securely packaged in cardboard and bubble wrap -- I use sturdy priority mail boxes and piece them together into a multi-layered protected package with lots of tape and padding) it will cost $20 priority mail including insurance and delivery confirmation to ship within the US.

I would not suggest shipping a painting this size outside the US due to the size but according to the USPS.com site something this size and weight could ship to Canada for $25 or overseas to most locations for $40. If you want overseas shipping please convo me and we can work out what the options are for your specific destination. This painting just sort of grew out of a desire to paint blue and purple hair streaming around a woman's face, but as it developed she starts to assume some Tarot like qualities, and I think she might have elements of Death or the Star. A contemplative, meditative image of mortality and the cosmos. Also, I like stars and purple hair.

"Redhead companions" is a 9 x 12 original acrylic painting on canvas board. An ivory-billed woodpecker rests on the arm of a red-haired woman in the forest.

Inspired by the sight of a pileated woodpecker in the woods this year (I am myself a redhead) I thought it would be nice to paint a woman with a woodpecker spirit animal. I portrayed the ivory-billed woodpecker, which is thought to be extinct, but rather resembles the pileated except for the color of the beak and some other details. This is not meant to be an accurate representation, but I chose to represent the extinct species because of my own hope that researchers will find living specimens some day, and as a reminder of how precious each species of animal is to us.

The woman has a mystical goddess-like aspect, wearing a bodice with the black/white markings of a woodpecker, and a soft grey hooded cape. Her bird friend has a shock of bright red plumage, and bold black and white markings. Dark green greens and greenery swirl in the background.

Lovely nature art, with a pagan feeling, for fantasy art lovers and devotees of the woods and forest, nature, and birds.

"Asleep" is a 4 x 12 acrylic painting on stretched canvas. Semi-abstract, the watery blue-lavender shades appear at first to be waves or water, but a female form emerges from the background in darker shades of purple-blue.

It's inspired by the idea that I always feel like I'm trapped under water when I'm trying to wake up -- in the depths of the ocean, trying to emerge but sleepily drifting back down.

The unusual 4 x 12 size is on a gallery wrapped stretched canvas. The side of the painting are about an inch wide and are also painted the same blue color, so it can be put directly on the wall if you don't want to frame it right away.

I was watching a horror movie recently and there was a scene in an antique shop that really caught my eye, with a woman in Victorian dress standing before a wall of antique clocks. I immediately sketched out an idea for a painting, and here it is. Other than that basic idea it has nothing to do with the movie I was watching, and in fact I would invite you to imagine what the plot in this little scene might be.

A dark haired woman in a malachite-green Victorian gown edged with white lace, holds a knife at her side as she gazes intently, perhaps with malicious amusement. Clocks of every shape and size adorn the walls. One can imagine the incessant cacophony of ticking and tocking -- a malevolent metronome!

This is an 8 x 10 acrylic painting on quality flat canvas board, just the right size for easy framing.

I began this painting as a celebration of feeling independent and free, and embracing all of the things that people say are bad for us, with glee. With long locks of red hair flying free (gee, that might be because I have red hair) and golden butterfly wings, she lifts a gold cup high in a toast to life, and wears a blood red gown, sitting high up in a twisted purple tree. A serpent twines around her legs, a friendly companion celebrating excess and enjoyment. I sort of had the idea of a Queen of Cups or Empress Tarot card in mind when I was designing this, but it is not a strict interpretation.

Apparently something has snapped and I think I might have joined a rainbow flower hippie alien gnome UFO flower mushroom cult at some point in the last 24 hours.

And just to confuse things a little, there's some Tarot card imagery, with the black and white trees in the background similar to the pillars in the High Priestess card, and various planetary symbols scattered throughout, on the staves that the alien and gnome friends are holding. I like to think this has a little something for everyone in it.

To give the impression of a turn of the century burlesque performer posing for a photograph, I included what resemble cut-out Halloween jack o'lanterns/pumpkins hanging from above and a cut-out cityscape below her. She wears a corset and striped stockings and has her hair up in charming buns. It's not a saucy painting otherwise though, it's wholesome for everyone! ;)

"A Perplexing Beastie" is the first in my "confused naturalist" series, depicting Imaginary Insect 1, Bumble Mantis (bombus religiosa). It is a 6 x 8 inch acrylic painting on canvas board.

My companion Dr. V___ and I returned from the wilds of P___ , sketchbooks overflowing with images of the strange creatures we spied within its forbidding depths. As I reclined on the fainting couch, perfecting my recollection of the new and varied species, she intoned a list of unusual attributes of the flora and fauna we encountered. As she talked I sketched, and I believe I fell prey to sleep amid the humid hum of insect life outside our window. When I awoke, I looked back through my sketches and found they did not quite match my memory but, alas, our notes from our sojourn into the wilderness were incomplete.

"I say," I said to my companion. "This rather resembles some species in our own garden." The gentle bumblebee and ravenous praying mantis, though I would swear that I saw such a perplexing beastie as this, waltzing through the vast nodding flowers of the wilds of P____.

They said it couldn't happen, but the night that the UFO crashed into the pyramid, there were green glowing footprints across the desert and we knew what had happened. The mummy had vanished from its sarcophagus, the great pyramid was fractured and the smoking ruins of the UFO were whisked off to a deep vault before morning and every government on earth denied that it had ever happened.

But there were a few, scattered across the desert, who saw it -- the green glowing reanimated mummy emerged, radioactive, from the ruins, the red eye on its chest blazing with unholy light.

St. Lucy, or St. Lucia, a Christian martyr, is often pictured in icons as bearing her eyes on a plate. With that theme in mind, this interpretation shows a pale blonde woman in Victorian grey clothing, adorned with lace trim and black buttons. A black veil hangs over her head, obscuring her eyes, but her red lips bear a small smile. A pair of crows or blackbirds rest in her hands, clutching eyeballs in their beaks. "Keeper of the Keys" is a 5 x 7 reproduction of my original painting from 2004 of a haunted looking Victorian ghost woman holding a ring of keys on a mysterious errand on a dark night. She holds aloft a lamp and a single golden skeleton key as she approaches a wooden door in a crumbling ruin. At her feet bloom strange skull flowers.

The image was taken directly from a digital image scan of the painting and reproduced on high quality matte photo paper using a traditional photographic process. It will last 100 years in typical home display, 200 years in dark storage. The paper used is Kodak Supra Endura Professional Photographic Paper. Listing is for the repro only, no frame or mat are included, I took a picture to show you how it might look displayed on your wall.

There is a 1/4 inch white border around the image, so most frames/mats will not overlap the actual image. If you would prefer a print where the image has no borders please convo me and I can prepare a borderless version for you.

"A Conversation With Color" is a colorful, organic explosion of shapes and textures erupting from my subconscious mind. Biological and natural at times, with a strange pulsating red form in one corner that looks like a heart -- or vague tendril shapes of fern leaves and branches, in another corner -- all surrounding a swirling brain of cosmic color in the middle. At one corner of the painting it looks like a blue bird rests on its back.

This was painted in 1994, when I was doing a lot of colorful, abstract art. I would start with a shape in the middle and just let the paint dictate what it wanted to do, filling in the details and crevices as I went with whatever caught my fancy, while listening to music.

This is a 14 x 18 original acrylic painting on stretched canvas. It's signed on the back with the title and back and signed on the front as well.

It could be cosmic or micro-organic, depending on your perspective and would a unique addition to any decor, particularly if you enjoy abstract or psychedelic art.

Shipping will be $15 priority mail with insurance and delivery confirmation in the US, and outside the US I can't estimate really ship because it would be over 36" in height/weight/depth which would mean I'd have to mail it global priority mail. The constant rain this year has made for a bumper crop of mushrooms in the forests where I like to walk -- I have seen them in every color of the rainbow. More often than not, they have big bites taken out of them, and sometimes I catch slugs in the act of munching away at the giant, colorful mushroom caps.

My delight with these critters and the rainbow bounty of the forest floor made me want to paint something colorful but sort of autumnal, with the orange tones and a full harvest moon. A lavender slug slides across a giant orange toadstool beneath a smiling moon. Orange, purple and green are my favorite color combination so I just indulged myself in this one. Seven stars sparkle in the sky.

Have you ever see that show "How Do I Look?" Sometimes when I watch it I become irate because a bunch of people in ugly vests stand around and tell someone with a unique style or homemade clothing that they're embarassing. Well this is what I say to them. I wear gothic zombie skirts made from Halloween fabric scraps in the middle of the summer and thumb my nose at Finola and her crew. This is where it's at!

This is a complex little skirt made from a variety of Halloween and horror fabric scraps I had. The main skirt is a sturdy black fabric with a bottom ruffle of orange/black stripes. There is an elastic waistband in a stretchy (spandex? lyrca?) shimmer silver moon/star fabric. And there are shredded panels of Horror B-Movie fabric, a gorgeous orange/yellow/green Halloween fabric, and thick black satiny ribbons dangling down. The scrap panels have a zigzag stitch around their edges for decoration and to prevent fraying (though a little fraying is encouraged, to add to the zombie charm!)

I used white thread to stitch this for contrast, with lots of zigzag stitches to give it a more Frankenstein/Zombie appeal. Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas would approve, I think.

MEASUREMENTS:
Elastic waistband: 28-42"
Length: 16" for main skirt. Dangles fall lower -- some as long as 32"

I can adjust the waistband or make the dangly bits shorter upon request.

My homemade clothing is made on a regular sewing machine with care.

Really, I just wanted to paint a Halloween badger because my husband likes badgers. And I like to put mushrooms in almost every painting that I do. So once those were in there, it seemed as though I had no choice except to also include a snake.

At twilight, the woodland creatures gather their glowing jack o'lanterns and head out from the mushroom forest to gather goodies on All Hallow's Eve.

This is the second painting I have done that was inspired by brief images in a movie I watched recently. In the opening of the film, there is a gathering in a dark parlour with green wallpaper. There is an oval mirror on the wall and candles burn throughout the room. A dark haired man and woman in dark clothing gather over a grim and gruesome scene. But what stuck with me was just the image of the two people, with the light from the candles reflecting green on their dark hair, in front of the mirror. You may imagine any plot you like to go with this dark pair -- a brother and sister? Man and wife? Strangers united by a strange ritual?

All summer long I have been photographing mushrooms in the woods of New Jersey, during one of the rainiest, dampest seasons in memory! I normally do paintings (see my shop!) but I've gone completely mad this year with mushrooms.

I included a photo of a framed copy of the print in this listing so you can see what it might look like on your wall but I am only selling the print, not a frame.
