Since August of 2006, I've been developing a body of artwork based on, and derived from, "vintage" children's toys. 'Fashion Plates', and all of their permutations, have fascinated me since I was a child [my first memory of creating art involves a set of 'Mighty Men and Monster Maker']. Working with these toys thirty years later has not only been a nostalgic trip, but it has also allowed for several conceptual and symbolic issues to be addressed, notably gender identification and feminine empowerment. It almost goes without saying that creating these illustrations has also been wicked fun. I call them 'Androids.'
