Geoff Davis, Creator of 50 Little Birds was just named an Indiana Artisan for his work carving birds. This designation recognizes outstanding Hoosier artists for their careful attention to detail, knowledge of the craft and their entrepreneurial spirit.
Woodcarver, Geoff Davis' bird carvings are about the story. Davis seeks out, observes, feeds and interacts with the birds in his world. Only when he has a story he begins to carve. Some stories are exciting (like the time he observed a kingfisher dive to avoid a Cooper's hawk attack) and some are common (He carves the birds that visit his feeder.) but his experiences with these birds enrich and add meaning to his life.
Geoff creates his birds one at a time with common household materials like wood scraps, sticks, nails and house paint. Materials are often found or re-purposed. Each bird is unique and one-of-a-kind.
If you desire a bird that you don't see. Custom orders cost no more than similar birds that are posted here.
Geoff also teachs bird carving, ukulele building and Shaker box making at Blue Stone Folk School in Noblesville, Indiana (He also happens to be the director of the school.) He also teaches 5th and 6th grade at an urban elementary school.
