"in the zone" where I am totally consumed with the process and it ceases being work. Alora's gives me the opportunity to share my love of textiles and I enjoy bringing variety and quality new and rare, hard-to-find vintage fabrics to my customers.
PLEASE NOTE: AlorasAdorables loves pleasant customers and all customers will be treated cordially with respect and dignity but in the event of a problem, the owner reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who behaves unreasonably, causes unnecessary conflict or gives reason to believe future transactions will not go smoothly. Product reviews have taken the place of feedback on Etsy ~ I have worked very hard to build a reputation for quality products and professional customer service. Please resolve issues before leaving a review ~
FORMS OF PAYMENT
~ PayPal as the preferred method of payment accepted ~ PayPal gives customers the option of using a credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover), and debit cards.
~ Because of the length of time to process personal checks (3 days minimum to mail and receive; 10-14 days to clear both banks and be deposited) and the increased fee charged if your check does not clear personal checks are not accepted. PayPal e-checks are accepted, however they take 9-10 days to clear; purchases will be shipped as soon as PayPal and Etsy notify me payment has cleared.
PROMOTIONS AND COUPON OFFERS
~ AlorasAdorables have occasional special offers requiring a coupon code at checkout and there is no other way to checkout with a discount except to use the code provided in the offer.
~ Other details of special offers are:
~ If there is more than one discount promotion going on at any point in time only one coupon can be used per transaction.
~ Past purchases will not be considered for promotions ~ only current purchases made all at one time.
~ To qualify all purchases must be made at the same time on the same receipt ~ orders won't be combined to qualify for a promotion.
~ If there is a minimum purchase requirement please consider your order carefully before placing to make certain it meets qualifications.
~ Free shipping offers require a minimum purchase.
~ Adjustments will not be made after a order is placed ~ refunds will forfeit the offer and require cancellation of the purchase ~
~ Free shipping offers are for individual fabric listings and patterns only. Bedspreads, quilt square kits, chenille rugs, layer cake sets, custom orders, etc are not included in free shipping.

~ Shipments to post office boxes and APO/FPO addresses must purchase insurance prior to shipping

AlorasAdorables chooses to offer PayPal for it's lengthy reputation and customer service rating. Currently Etsy does not offer gift cards to shops using PayPal. If you do not agree with this policy, please convo Customer Service and voice your request for a change in policy.
~ Currently AlorasAdorables resides in a state that does not require AlorasAdoables to collect sales tax. It is the responsibility of both buyer and seller to pay personal and business taxes due at the time of filing state and federal returns. At this time there is pending legislation before the U.S. Congress to make it mandatory for all online businesses to collect sales tax at the time of purchase. You may voice your opinion on this to your congress representative if you do not agree.
CANCELLATION POLICY OF SPECIAL ORDERS, HOLDS AND RESERVES
~ Holds and reserves are given in good faith to serious buyers. Please meet deadlines for payments, holds and reserves.

~ DELIVERY TIME ~ Shipments are made twice weekly. We cannot control the transit time. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx and other shippers policies are changing frequently to keep up with the changing economy so If they choose to delay a truck or plane at a transit point for some reason, delivery time can't be guarantee .
~ Etsy does not currently have a connection to USPS for exact postal rates based on weight and zip code so sellers have to estimate as closely as possible the actual cost
~ if you have a refund due for postage, it will be processed promptly. in the event we have under-estimated, customers may be invoiced for the extra postage cost. Refunds can take 10-14 days through PayPal and are not processed until your payment has cleared your bank or credit card.
~ All shipping price quotes include a handling charge to cover shipping supplies and transportation ~ international ($2) domestic ($1)
~ AlorasAdorables preferred method of shipping is by USPS as it is less expensive and saves the customer money on postage. We do offer UPS and Fed Ex for an additional processing fee to cover costs of time and transportation. Please ask via convo prior to purchasing.
~ USPS is currently going through downsizing that affects processing, delivery times and costs. AlorasAdorables mail orders promptly ~ please be patient as down-sizing changes are made to the USPS system that may delay delivery of your purchases.
~ AlorasAdorables is doing everything possible to keep shipping costs down while keeping packages durable during transit ~ your purchase is packed in the lightest sturdy container that will guarantee no damage due to packaging.
~ All items are categorized by weight and size. A shipping profile is assigned at time of listing that estimates the cost from the shipping point to the farthest domestic zone in the USPS Postage Tables (available for your preview at USPS.com).
~ if you have been charged too much, a prompt refund of full dollars will be made to your PayPal account. If a refund is overlooked, please send a convo reminder so this can be corrected.
~ All orders to Hawaii, Alaska and U.S. Territories must be insured for orders over $50 and are not eligible for free shipping
~ All orders are verified ~ please be sure your PayPal account has the correct shipping information ~ you may be required to purchase insurance if you are shipping to a post office box.
~ If you have concerns about safety of your shipment, please request insurance at the time of purchase for all orders ~ we can't accept responsibility for loss, damage or theft.
DOMESTIC U.S. SHIPPING
~ AlorasAdorables shipping profiles were set up by a U.S. Postal consultant. Because Etsy does not have a shipping calculator, prices must be figured on shipping from zone 1 to zone 8. (Etsy's system does not allow for more than one shipping zone to be listed for the U.S. so shops must use estimates.)
~ If your item weighs 13 or fewer ounces, it will be sent First Class unless you indicate a different service and pay the additional costs. Quoted prices are for First Class USPS mail for parcels weighing up to 13 ounces. If it weighs more than 13 ounces USPS Priority will be used. Recent changes to the postal system have resulted in new, higher shipping rates as of Jan 31, 2013.
~ In some cases the listing shipping quote may be higher for combined shipping - that is because once your parcel goes over 13 oz the rate changes from First Class to Priority.
~ Delivery confirmation is free to U.S. customers paying through PayPal and all packages are tracked to make sure they arrive safely.
~ Express Mail is offered but costs are not published in the listings. If you require this shipping method, please convo prior to purchase for price quote. You may be invoiced for the price difference prior to shipping.
~ All domestic customer purchases over $250 are required to have a USPS Signature Confirmation or are insured at expense of the customer - whichever is cheaper - both require you sign for delivery of your purchase. If you are not at home at time of delivery, the postman will leave a notice letting you know where to pick it up or you can authorize redelivery. Your local USPS office will hold your package for a maximum of five days in most instances, though your local post office may have a different policy. If the package is returned to Aloras, you will be invoiced for a new postage charge prior to mailing a second time.
~ Please note USPS Priority Insured requires your signature, and electrical scanning will record delivery of your purchase.
~ Alora's does not refund orders that are non-deliverable. Please make sure your address on Etsy and PayPal is correctly recorded and are the same. If shipping to another address, please indicate by attaching a note to your order in the space provided or by convo.
~ PARCEL POST ~ Parcel Post is shipped via truck from distribution point to distribution point and being loaded and unloaded increases risks for damage to package; it can take 10-14 days and there is no price difference when the insurance is added on so Alora's does not offer this rate. However, if you have to use parcel post we require insurance at an additional cost.
DAMAGE DURING SHIPMENT
~ All items are carefully inspected and packaged using appropriate packing materials in an effort to minimize damage.
~ The post office examines all packages prior to delivery and if the package is damaged they will make a note of the damage. If an insured item is damaged a claim has to be filed that requires you to provide the item plus all packing materials for the post office inspection - you may be required to relinquish these items. If these requirements are not met, the insurer will not cover damage. These requirements must be met for a refund to be made by the USPS, otherwise you may not have sufficient proof of a claim. So please, if it is damaged, keep the entire package for inspection.
LOSS DURING SHIPMENT
~ All domestically shipped purchases carry delivery confirmation and your package is electrically scanned upon delivery. Insurance is offered and recommended on all purchases. Please use a shipping address where your deliveries are protected from theft as AlorasAdorables does not accept responsibility for loss due to theft.
P.O. BOX DELIVERY ~ All shipments to post office boxes are required to be insured and signed for upon delivery.
~ FPO/APO ADDRESSES
Because shipments to overseas/international military addresses can't be tracked by delivery confirmation, insured, or signed for, Alora's cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to any purchase. Many sellers will not ship to FPO/ APO addresses for this reason but we want to support the troops, so please convo us indicating you accept responsibility in lieu of delivery confirmation otherwise the order will be cancelled.
~ Due to problems insuring and tracking purchases we do not ship to Africa, the Middle East, parts of Asia and Eastern Europe ~ this list is not inclusive so if you are unsure, please ask before buying. If you shop and pay without contacting the shop first, your order will be cancelled and your cleared PayPal payment will be refunded. Refunds from PayPal may take 10-14 days.
~ AlorasAdorables ships to the the U.S. and her Territories, Canada, United Kingdom and her Territories, much of Europe (if we can communicate in English), Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Korea ~ if customer want insurance or tracking it is only available at higher rated Priority International postage ~ please convo for rates.
~ Quoted shipping costs are estimates based on fabric weights to domestic and international regions. Exact cost for international shipping is not known until the entire package has been packaged, taped and weighed at the post office - that is not done until after a sale has been completed. If additional costs are incurred, you may be invoiced for the additional amount before purchase will be mailed. If shipping was overestimated, you will be given a refund of whole US dollars at the time of shipping. If you have any concerns about this, please convo prior to purchasing.
~ AlorasAdorables offer shipping though USPS. International shipping rates continue to increase and the least expensive international shipping is First Class Mail International, limited to 4 pounds. However, with this rate I cannot insure or trach your purchase. US Customs can track by CN-22 numbers on the package but this information is not readily available to the shipper.
~ AlorasAdorables also offer insurable and trackable Priority Mail International and Express International at higher rates. If you are interested, please convo for those rates prior to purchasing.
~ If you do not choose to purchase USPS insurance for domestic or international shipping, AlorasAdorables is not responsible for loss, damage or theft. Also, please note that international insurance claims due to damage during shipping require you to provide photos showing the damaged product and may require photos of damaged packaging and the address information on the package.
~ Be sure your purchase is approved by your country's customs laws. Returns are not accepted and refunds are not offered on uninsured international orders.
~ AlorasAdorables charges a small handling fee of US $2 on international orders to cover additional packaging costs and a separate trip to post items.
~ Customs Form CN-22
All customs forms will be filled out with the actual purchase price and product information in compliance with U.S. laws. If the content value is less than or equal to $400 the shipper is also required to prepare PS Form 2976 in addition to Custom form CN 22 with the actual price paid ~ please do not convo and ask the store to declare a value less than paid. If the content value is greater than $400 shipping by the higher rated USPS Priority International must be used. Another option is Global Express Guaranteed service and/or Express Mail International service.
~ AlorasAdorables combines shipping on multiple purchases ~ combined shipping costs are estimated in the listing. If you do not see one it is because the item needs to be shipped alone. These are estimated costs ~ if higher you will be invoiced for the difference prior to shipping.
Refunds and Exchanges
RETURNS, REFUNDS AND EXCHANGES ~
~ If we make a mistake in your order we want to fix it to your satisfaction if we can.
~ Please read all details of a listing ~ description details are inclusive and full disclosure is made to give customers all information needed to make a purchase decision.
~ Photos are not exact but a representation of the fabric cut. If you have any questions before buying, please convo.
~ If you are uncertain an item will work, please do not buy.
~ If an error has been made by AlorasAdorables refunds will be offered for 7 days of the confirmed delivery date in it's original condition.
~ Vintage fabric is limited in availability and it cannot be guaranteed replacements will be available.
~ Custom orders, fabric cut-to-order, special orders cannot be returned or refunded.
~ The nature of vintage fabrics and bedspreads is gently used and they are not often pristine so imperfections can be expected - please read the listings carefully.
~ Postage/shipping costs are not refunded, only the item(s) original price.
~ If a refund is given, PayPal may take up to 10 days to release your funds while they wait for the original transaction to clear. Listing and other non-refundable fees will be withheld from your returned payment.
~ In the event an item is returned without prior approval, it will be held until you pay the return postage.
Additional Policies and FAQs
LIMIT ON PURCHASES
~ So that everyone has an opportunity to buy fabrics and because some of these fabrics are rare and often not replaceable, the number of pieces of any one rare or limited-in-quantity fabric a customer can buy may be limited. This policy is in place to give everyone a equal opportunity to work with these fabrics. If you require more your request will be considered. This does not mean to imply a promise or guarantee the fabric will be made available in larger quantities.
TRADES, BARTERS, IOU, LAYAWAY ~
Trades and barters circumvent Etsy's right to expect a sales fee for using their website. Without exception, AloraAdorables does not "trade" or "barter". Also we do not accept "IOUs" or do "layaways" because experience has shown these are complicated transactions that require tracking storage and payments, sending out reminders that are time consuming, etc. By nature, quality rare vintage fabrics are limited in quantity and prices reflect how much it costs to acquire them for resale.

~Setting up a fraudulent account for the purpose of harassing, making a purchase for fraudulent means or for any other illegitimate reason is taken seriously, investigated thoroughly and can result in sanctions against the shopper by Etsy. That is why we reserve the right to require new accounts without feedback or purchase history to have at least 10 positive feedback and a purchase history on Etsy of 3 months. If you are a new customer and wish to purchase, please contact the store first - I may elect to waive the requirement for you however, purchases made by new IDs without feedback, or in error prior to having read this policy or without prior permission may be cancelled and given an immediate refund. Thank you for your cooperation. Purchases made in error prior to having read this policy will be cancelled.
~ If an item has been refunded and the transaction cancelled that cancels any right to leave feedback by either seller or buyer.
~ I adore my customers and that includes going out of my way to find fabrics you will enjoy working with. I work long days to make certain that customer's experiences are positive ones and if there is a issue you are not happy with it is your responsibility to send me a polite convo and give me an opportunity to reach a fair resolution for you and the store.
~ It is not fair to leave a poor rating, and this includes "neutral" ratings, if you have not communicated a problem and given the store an opportunity to correct it. Please read Etsy feedback policies.
~ Inappropriate use of feedback is not fair and will result in denial of further purchases.
REFUSAL OF SERVICE
~ All customers will be treated cordially with respect and dignity but in the event of a problem, the store reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who behaves unreasonably, causes unnecessary conflict or gives reason to believe future transactions will not go smoothly.
~ I have great respect for fellow Etsians and follow a code of ethics that does not have to be in Etsy's policies in order to be the right and decent thing to do and, at all times strive to achieve. Therefore, I will not use this shop or listing descriptions to denigrate another seller's products or methods.
~ The use of feedback or the convo system to abuse policies is taken seriously by Etsy and there are policies in place ~ that AlorasAdorables wholeheartedly agrees with ~ to encourage camaraderie and respect between Etsians and discourage gossip and criticism between competitors that cause unnecessary conflict. Engaging in those behaviors is considered grounds for refusal of service and will be reported.
~ All custom orders are booked in advance by availability. Completion dates are blocked for 24 hours to give the customer time to make payment ~ if no communication or payment has been made, it will be assumed you are no longer interested, the date will be released and fabrics set aside to complete your order will be relisted.
~ Barring an emergency, orders are completed on a schedule.
~ In keeping with Etsy policy, all custom quilt photos shown are of examples of design only ~ do not purchase until we have discussed your order and confirmed a delivery date.
~ Sample listings are labeled "SAMPLE ONLY" to show design possibilities and do not imply your custom order will be exactly as shown.
~ Prices quoted are fixed for the size shown in the listing. Other sizes may be available for custom order and priced accordingly, please convo to inquire.
~ Custom orders are generally priced at ten cents per square inch however, designs that take longer, require rare or more expensive fabrics will be priced accordingly.
~ Specify all details before work begins by convo only, not e-mail, so that it is a part of the recorded Etsy message system. Please do not delete your convos regarding your custom order so that you can refer to them if you have a question.
~ Full payment of a custom order quoted price is due at time of order. The postage is due prior to shipment. If work has begun on an order and then cancelled, buyer may forfeit costs paid to date.
~ Please carefully read the description for your custom made order. In creating a one-of-a-kind custom design from vintage fabrics consider that some fabrics are rare and availability is limited ~ fabrics may have to be special ordered and purchased to fulfill design specification. There is no guarantee special ordered fabrics will be available - you may be offered substitutes. Once fabric is cut and the design process begins, no guarantee is made that your requested changes can be accommodated. If they can be accommodated, it may result in additional charges.
~ All custom sales are final ~ it is important to work out all details when placing your order ~ long hours of preparation and planning is done to meet customer's specifications and give customers a smooth transaction. Your specifications are used as guidelines and your order is treated as a custom order whether for cut fabrics or for handmade items ~ therefore returns are not accepted. If an item is returned by a customer it is held until return postage is paid by buyer.
~ Cancellation of an order after design preparation and fabric cutting will not be done so please be certain before purchasing ~ if you are still adamant about cancelling you will forfeit a portion of the cost representing time, labor and fabrics prepared for your order.
~ All purchases are mailed securely wrapped in appropriate containers. Custom orders are insured and delivery is tracked. If item(s) arrive damaged it must be held by you along with original packaging for inspection by the post office or UPS or it makes null and void any insurance claim; you must be able to prove a claim. If a claim is made null and void by the shipper, no payment nor replacement will provided by AlorasAdorables.
~ Before your custom order has begun you must indicate by convo that you have read this policy for custom ordering.
COLORS AND PHOTOGRAPHY
~ Photography can result in colors being altered on individual monitors making it difficult, if not impossible to capture "exact" color depending on light source, cameras used and other things beyond our control.
ALORASADORABLES' LISTINGS ON OTHER VENUES
~ AlorasAdorables retails textiles and other supplies to those who sew, craft or quilt and does not wholesale fabrics to businesses.
~ AlorasAdorables sells textiles on Etsy and other venues ~ prices may vary on each site and no adjustments will be made if an item sells for more or less on any of the seller's selected venues.
~ Etsy listings are not duplicated ~ for example, if the same item is listed in three venues at once that means there are at least three available for sale.
~ We have tried to address all anticipated questions in the policies, however if you have additional questions, please convo.
CLEANING OF VINTAGE CHENILLE
~ Heirloom fabric requires special care so that it will be around for generations to enjoy
~Treat and remove stains with biodegradable, safe products as soon as they happen
~ Do not allow the fabric or quilt to go through an entire wash agitation cycle ~ fill washer adding cleaning agent, add bedspread and agitate 30 seconds, stop then let it soak several hours or overnight depending on the degree of soil. Finish with a rinse and gentle spin cycle.
~ To dry, lie flat or line dry by draping, not pinning, being certain not to let it get sun exposure that can bleach the colors or dry in the dryer on air dry, gentle cycle.
~ Museums, conservators, serious collectors, and quilt guilds recommend ORVUS, a line of products gentle to linens that will not weaken fabric or strip color but the process is not as simple as just throwing in the laundry so be sure to do in depth research on its' use prior to laundering - it does not suds up like detergent so don't use more than directed. Also, don't use other products in combination with it. Rinse several times especially if your water is hard. Also if you choose to use Orvus do not use fabric softeners or vinegar as they bond with the fabric leaving a deposit impossible to remove. As with all products, follow directions very carefully
~ Oxyclean is widely used in spot removal but please be aware it is an oxidizer and the effect that has on your fabric ~ don't use it on fabrics containing lurex threads as it dissolves the metallic coating on the thread. Always test it first and I never use it on fabrics made prior to 1940 because colors are not always colorfast in earlier fabrics.
~ Bleeding is a problem in fabrics, particularly reds that are not dye fast - try Synthrapol available online at Dharma Trading Co. and in this case tumble dry to keep manufacturer's dye molecules from bleeding.
STORAGE OF CHENILLE
~ Cotton absorbs the body's oils, sweat and soil and as bacteria works, odors form. That is why you don't put an unclean spread away in storage because when you finally get it out of storage, maybe years later, it will strongly smell of body odor that will be difficult, if not impossible to remove.
~ Don't store with moth balls, air fresheners, sachets or perfumes because in the same way bacteria interacts with the body's sweat and oils, it will interact with perfume and sachet scents ~ doing so can result in a spread that smells for decades like you tried to cover up body odors with perfume instead of laundering.
~ Storing on bare wood for long periods can leach oils the fabric will absorb - try instead to wrap in a clean muslin sheet before storing on shelving
~ Store in temperature-controlled conditions - natural fibers need to "breathe" circulated air.
~ Other fibers - polyester, polyester-cotton blends, rayon-cotton blends and other synthetics worst enemy is heat - it separates and melts the fiber resulting in pilling and shiny, stray, hair-like strands that stick up from the design. Although fabric softeners cannot restore melted polyester fibers they can soften the feel of the polyester and reduce scratchiness; in this case, liquid softeners are better than dryer sheets that require heat to release active ingredients.
WHAT IS VINTAGE?
What is "vintage" and what is the typical vintage condition you will find in this shop?
~ Vintage is defined as being 30-100 years old and representational of the era. Anything older than 100 years is considered to be antique.
~ AlorasAdorables uses the terms good, excellent and mint to rate conditions of listed chenille and does not sell poor quality chenille that is too thin and fragile to work with - all damage issues such as missing tufts, pinholes, gentle fading - will be fully disclosed in the listing description.
~ All whole bedspreads available for sale in AlorasAdorables are either without damage or repairable - meaning there may be a small tear, small hole, light small stain or hidden missing chenille tufts. Please read listings descriptions carefully when considering a purchase.
FABRIC CONTENT IDENTIFICATION USING THE "BURN TEST"
Unsure if a textile is natural or synthetic/blend? Try the old Home Economics "burn test": Caution, make sure there is a bucket of water nearby and that you burn in a metal bucket or non-plastic sink.
To identify fabric that is unknown, a simple burn test can be done to determine if the fabric is a natural fiber, man made fiber, or a blend of natural and man made fibers. The burn test is used by many fabric stores and designers and takes practice to determine the exact fiber content. However, an inexperienced person can still determine the difference between many fibers to "narrow" the choices down to natural or man made fibers. This elimination process will give information necessary to decide the care of the fabric. All fibers will burn. Asbestos treated fibers are, for the most part fire proof. The burning test should be done with caution. Use a small piece of fabric only. Hold the fabric with tweezers, not your fingers. Burn over a metal dish with baking soda or water in the bottom of the dish. Some fabrics will ignite and melt. The result is burning drips which can adhere to fabric or skin and cause a serious burn.
Cotton is a plant fiber. When ignited it burns with a steady flame and smells like burning leaves. The ash left is easily crumbled. Small samples of burning cotton can be blown out as you would a candle.
Linen is also a plant fiber but different from cotton in that the individual plant fibers which make up the yarn are long where cotton fibers are short. Linen takes longer to ignite. The fabric closest to the ash is very brittle. Linen is easily extinguished by blowing on it as you would a candle.
Silk is a protein fiber and usually burns readily, not necessarily with a steady flame, and smells like burning hair. The ash is easily crumbled. Silk samples are not as easily extinguished as cotton or linen.
Wool is also a protein fiber but is harder to ignite than silk as the individual "hair" fibers are shorter than silk and the weave of the fabrics is generally looser than with silk. The flame is steady but more difficult to keep burning. The smell of burning wool is like burning hair.
Synthetic or Man Made Fibers
Acetate is made from cellulose (wood fibers), technically cellulose acetate. Acetate burns readily with a flickering flame that cannot be easily extinguished. The burning cellulose drips and leaves a hard ash. The smell is similar to burning wood chips.
Acrylic, technically acrylonitrile, is made from natural gas and petroleum. Acrylics burn readily due to the fiber content and the lofty, air filled pockets. A match or cigarette dropped on an acrylic blanket can ignite the fabric which will burn rapidly unless extinguished. The ash is hard. The smell is acrid or harsh.
Nylon is a polyamide made from petroleum. Nylon melts and then burns rapidly if the flame remains on the melted fiber. If you can keep the flame on the melting nylon, it smells like burning plastic.
Polyester is a polymer produced from coal, air, water, and petroleum products. Polyester melts and burns at the same time, the melting, burning ash can bond quickly to any surface it drips on including skin. The smoke from polyester is black with a sweetish smell. The extinguished ash is hard.
Rayon is a regenerated cellulose fiber which is almost pure cellulose. Rayon burns rapidly and leaves only a slight ash. The burning smell is close to burning leaves.
Blends consist of two or more fibers and, ideally, are supposed to take on the characteristics of each fiber in the blend. The burning test can be used but the fabric content will be an assumption
