I'm Re-Opening Brizel Handcrafts on Etsy which sells apple wood Brigid Crosses; Silk Tapestry Fiber Arts such as Brizel Hip Pouches, Table Pouches, Table Rugs, Art Boxes, & Plush Hearts as well as embellished Hip Button Belts & eco-friendly Tagua Nut jewelry. I also do special commission work- such as customized fabric Tarot Amulet Pouches and altar cloths- fabric or silk tapestry art.

WHAT iS SiLK TAPESTRY ?
Brizel Silk Tapestry is a technique that was developed by me in order to create woven rug-like thicknesses without the use of a loom. I wanted to work in spiral formation since most of my motifs are round in nature... i wanted the flow, form & color to follow that pattern... so I adapted upon crochet... when using a crochet hook, each thick silk yarn loop is pulled tightly before I can make the next one... so that the end result is very thick and dense.

The creation of a Brizel Silk Tapestry piece is both a conscientious & effort-ful act... all that pulling & tugging is hard work on the hands, wrists and arm muscles... but the result is well worth it and I love seeing the beauty shine through !

The silk yarns that I use to create Silk Tapestry products are made from reclaimed silk threads and loom warps, left overs from a silk sari garment factories... these are reclaimed and hand spun into gorgeous thick sport weight yarns.

I also use vegan yarns: rayon; cotton with or without hemp; and banana silk yarn, a silk like yarn made from banana fibers.
