Chocolate and Steel is an eco-friendly jewelry collection that is handcrafted by Christine Street in Los Angeles, California. It is simple, modern, and cheerful. I find inspiration in the simple pleasures of life.... sunshine, flowers in the breeze, birds chirping, silly lovable animals. These fleeting joyful moments are captured and transferred to metal pieces that last forever. An eternal reminder of a beautiful moment. The entire collection is handcrafted by me from fine silver, sterling silver, bronze and white bronze, all which have been reclaimed from previous manufacturing processes.
The studio is run in the most eco-friendly way possible. Metal scraps are saved and reclaimed, no harsh chemicals are used and my studio is powered by 100% renewable energy sources including wind and solar power.

::About the metals that I use::

Silver – All silver jewelry in the shop is handcrafted by Christine Street using pure reclaimed silver, unless otherwise noted. The silver has been reclaimed from previous manufacturing processes (film negatives and electrical circuitry) and is then refined. The result is a beautiful white silver color and the texture is so smooth and soft. You will feel the purity in these pieces created with reclaimed pure silver. Pure silver is 99.9% silver also known as Fine Silver.
Care of your silver jewelry – Fine silver will not tarnish as quickly as sterling silver but it will eventually. To clean use baking soda and a toothbrush or polish with a polishing cloth. To delay tarnish wear your jewelry often and store in any closed case (jewelry box, Tupperware, any container really). Avoid storing in wool and it is recommended to remove jewelry before swimming in a highly chlorinated pool. It is rare but occasionally chlorine will turn silver black.

White Bronze – White Bronze is a less expensive alternative to silver. It is an alloy of copper, tin and zinc. It is still perfect for people with allergies to nickel. There is no nickel in White Bronze. All the pieces are handcrafted by Christine Street using metal clay. White Bronze metal clay comes to me in powder form. Often times powdered metals are reclaimed from old bridges that suffered floods or collapsed for other reasons.
Care of your White Bronze jewelry - White Bronze does not easily tarnish. Take care of your white bronze jewelry by wearing it a lot, avoid wearing in water, and do not store with wool.
