My thanks to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette for the honor of being the only candle company that they recommended to its readers (in the Sunday, Oct 2, 2011 Living Section front page) for Autumn scents! Here's the link for that articale. http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20111002/FEAT/310029996
Also my thanks for the great article about my company published in the Fort Wayne News Sentinel featuring myself and my bff Sarah Wallen - a soaper of only pure and natural soap made the true and time tested cold press fashion. Cold press soap produces a smaller but denser soap that does not disolve as fast as soap processed with heat. This article focused on a green life and are striving to produce organic and natural products using local ingredients. WEDDINGS: Have you thought of giving soy or beeswax votives as wedding favors? I have seen a huge increase in this in my regular website and now here on etsy. They are a great natural, renewable and inexpensive wedding favor. A great addition to the "green" wedding or party. Soy votives are a great way to go.
Most dyes contain phthlalate (some studies have linked it with asthma) and petroleum/paraffin in them. The idea of buying a soy candle is that it is clean buring and a renewable resource. Why buy a healthier and cleaner burning candle and have it ruined with toxic dyes. While I personnaly prefer dye free I recognize that some do like color. I have found "Flutter Dye". They are phthlalate-free, petroleum/paraffin-free and bee free. They also have some UV protection. Most dyes don't have this and you have to add a UV inhibitor - this is getting into adding more chemicals to the candles. Something I am trying to stay away from. The flutters are expensive at this point.but I have started using them and not passing on the cost to you. They also resist UV damage. A portion of Flutter Dyes™ profits go to help conserve endangered butterfly habitat by supporting a Wisconsin group called The Sand County Foundation. They received a U.S Fish and Wildlife award for Karner Blue Butterfly habitat restoration last year. They meet the California Prop 65 for non toxic. This is the healthiest dye available for soy candles. Natural food coloring vary greatly and are hard to reproduce in every candle.
My candles are not the most expensive, but I do use preminum quality items. I keep cost down for you by driving the 6 total hours to pick up the wax, candle supplies (wicks, wick tabs, fragrance oils, etc) that saves hugh amounts on shipping. I make my own wicks by sealing the cotton with wax and putting it in the wick tab rather than buying the more expensive pretabed wicks. I know how tough times are and I do this to help you get the most out of your money. Also my thanks to my employer (Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne, Indiana) for allowing me to reuse boxes for shipping.
NEW ITEM: Soy Votives made with botanical oils. The botanical oils create the firmness votives need to burn to keep the wick from drooping down into the wax and going out. A pure soy wax without the botanicals can not supportthe wick if left burning for very long. The botanicals are a trade secret of the manufacturer but are 100% natural. This wax holds an essential or fragrance oil much better than a palm wax.
COLD PROCESS SOAP IS NOW AVAILABLE!!!. Most ingredients are organic with the exception of the potassium hydroxide (essential in all soap) that is used to bind the oils together. Ingredients are USDA organic palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, goat milk, honey and oatmeal. Did you know that soap can be made two different ways? One way is the heat process. It is a quicker way and produces what looks like a larger bar but it actually is more porous. When used it the bar disolves faster because this. The second is the cold process in which the oils and potassium hydroxide cools to a certain temperature and then are mixed together. They are poured into molkds, left for 48 hours and then cut to size. The bars then cure for 5 weeks to 3 months depending on what oils are used. This creates a denser bar that does not disolve as fast making it last longer does not weaken the benefits of the oils from the amount of time soap is cooked in the crockpots used in hot process methods. Both processes create fine bars but you have to decide for yourself which one has the benefits you would like.
NEW CANDLE SCENTS: Sandalwood and Amber.
LOTIONS: I use glass bottles or tins for my body lotions and lotion bars. Plastic bottles are made with petroleum oil. By using glass this helps reduce our dependence on oil. Plastics are broken down by oil and plastic leechs into the lotion. My lotions are all natural with the majority of the ingredients USDA Organic. This means the organic are 100% organic. I buy only from USA companies whose products are cultivated, harvested and processed in the most responsible fashion. I take living green very serious. NEW LOTION! I am now making lotions that include USDA organic Goat Milk and locally harvested honey from one of my fav places - Blueberry Acres.
I work as an Intensive Care Nurse and my co-workers love the lotion and lip balm. The lotion does not wash off with the first or even second hand washing. It quickly absorbs into the skin but retains a moisture barrier. This would be ideal for any that requires frequent hand washing or with serious dry skin.
My products are available for wholesale and fundraising. Everyone today is concerned with maintaining or improving his or her health. Your target audience will appreciate the fact that you offering a healthy product. All ingredients are natural and/or organic. The exception is some fragrance oils Most of my fragrance oils do contain essential oils also but pure essential oils have EO after the name. All are renewable resources. The glass containers can be recycled. Better yet - point out they can be refilled with lotion, liquid hand soap, etc.
