Aprons at Creacionesyuca's Shop
Creacionesyuca's Shop Announcement
Welcome to our shop! We are a collective of women working out of the Chaparral Family Development Center. We have a variety of items for sale, including knitted, crocheted, and sewn creations. Many of our items incorporate hand-woven, hand-embroidered squares made by Maya weavers from Chiapas, Mexico. We have about ten members and have been working together since 2002. We started working together to improve our economic situation and called ourselves Mujeres Aprendiendo a Coser (Women Learning to Sew). Now that we have learned to sew well, we have chosen the name Creaciones Yuca for our collective. The Yucca flower is a symbol for us because it is a desert plant that withstands extremes of temperature, wind, and climate. We feel that we have also withstood substantial challenges in our lives. We opened our Center in 2007, as a place where we can meet, learn, sew, create, and convivir.
