The name "Descending Dove Designs" is based on Matthew 3:16-17:
"After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
I grew up as a preacher's kid, and life was difficult dealing with people that said they were Christians and "active" in the church. They were very critical and judgmental. After a number of years, I decided that God must be like those kind of people, the Zeus like guy with the lightning bolt ready to strike me down if I made a mistake. I couldn't love a God like that so I walked away from God, the church, and anything that related to Christianity. I started looking for love elsewhere and never found it. One evening, I was about to commit suicide. Before I did, I heard God tell me He loved me. At first, I got angry and told Him exactly who I thought He was and what He thought of me. When I finished, He told me, "I love you" again. That moment totally rocked my world and I decided to try to find out more about this God. I started reading the Bible, particularly the first few books of the New Testament starting with John. I found out that the God of the universe looked at the people that He'd created. We, who had walked away from Him and were now trapped in our sinful lives. People that after they died would spend eternity separated from Him in Hell. To make a way to rescue us, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, to bear His wrath against sin on the cross and to show His power over sin when Jesus was raised from the dead so that anyone who turns and trusts in Him will be reconciled to God forever. I've never been the same since. He's turned my world upside down and He means everything to me.
My father and I have always enjoyed working with our hands to make beautiful things. His specialty is wood crafting and I enjoy making unique types of jewelry, painting, and finding new ways to use old things.
After living in Haiti for seven months, I learned to make jewelry out of things that would ordinarily be burned and thrown out, such as newspapers and cereal boxes. After I finish grad school, I plan to, God willing, move into a third world village community overseas to share the love of Jesus and teach other women to make this jewelry and other crafts to sell so that they can provide for their families, and prayerfully keep some of the younger girls from having to sell themselves on the streets to make a living.
