The story behind ELISHA MARIE
Elisha Marie is a jewelry line founded by me, Elisha M. Garza. My jewelry provides multi-dimensional versatility with linear shapes and organic textures. The theory that “less is more” plays an important role in my designs. In a time when you see mass produced jewelry, I specialize in making each piece one-of-a-kind through the hand made process.
I was born and raised in Texas, but I have traveled throughout my life. I grew up with a strong sense of artistry. My experience includes fashion design, sewing, and photography. In 2011 after enrolling in a jewelry design program, I was enamored by the molten metal and grittiness of the studio. I submerged myself into many different jewelry and design classes to further expand my skills in the art of jewelry fabrication. With these learned skills under my belt and the drive to be creative, Elisha Marie Jewelry was born.
My designs are inspired by nature and history. I find myself most creative when strolling through the wilderness or when reading about ancient civilizations. I incorporate everything from arrows and sunrays to daggers and serpents into my jewelry. I find that jewelry design suits my style because it offers many aspects of creating. I can sketch designs, sculpt, carve wax, and forge metal. Although, I love to sketch, few of my designs start on a piece of paper. Rather, they are formed organically by reaching for whichever materials inspire me on any given day. My favorite design process is called lost wax casting. I hand carve a design onto wax or use found objects like organic flowers or leaves. I then transform them into a metal creation. There are no limits on what can be created in wax and there’s never fear of making a mistake.
In an effort to provide unique designs and use minimal waste, I strive to use sustainable materials and recycled precious metals sourced from American companies. After the fabrication process, I refine all of the precious metal remnants by melting them down and recycling them into new reusable sheet or wire and use them to cast new pieces. I make it a priority to source stones from reputable companies who guarantee top ecological standards in the way the stones are mined, cut, and recycled. I also re-use gemstones found in antique settings. Elisha Marie Jewelry also offers recycled shipping materials and reusable packaging. As an independent designer, I play numerous roles in my business. I am a photographer one day, designer the next, and always the customer service representative.
