Welcome to Finky Made This, I am glad you stopped by!
The folded book sculptures you see here are made by me, inspired by a book I saw many years ago in a Seattle gallery. I collect the books from many places: thrift stores, library sales, wherever I can find them. Scouting for books is the first part of what I do, after that I visualize how this book wants to be handled. Depending on the endpapers, the condition of the pages, the content, I plan out what shape it will be. I have named the shapes after different places in the world, enfolding my love of travel. The Paris style is the most intricate, with every page folded at an incremental angle relative to the previous one. The Santorini style is after my favorite island, in Greece-- the shape looks like a small boat. And the Egyptian style looks like a pyramid. I'm working on more shapes to encompass even more places.
I have many books in my "to-be-folded library", so if there is a particular topic or author you are looking for, let me know! I also will do custom orders of books if you would like me to source them. In those cases, I will let you know how much the total price will be. Are you an author, or seeking a gift for one? I can fold that author's book, and create specially made endpapers for it.
The finished pieces can sit happily on a table-top,or balanced on an easel, or framed with a wire plate-holder, or even used as a book-end with a twin. Message me if you would like to find out about easels.
I am also selling garlands made from vintage books, and jewelry-- some made from illustrated books and stamps.
