My wife and talented artist Nicole Richardson hand carves and paints an original Geisha design on each flute we sell. No two pieces are exactly a like! Each flute is a custom piece of high quality art. This flute takes sometime to complete and the photo is an example of this wonderful sounding flute. Precisely tuned and fun to play. You can play some very interesting sounding musical lines with a simple straight up and down the scale fingering.

Everything sounds beautiful and melodic.

Nicole has updated the art which is based off of an Etruscan theme, a depiction of an unidentified big cat. 5 tone holes, with a thumb hole on the bottom like a Japanese flute.

Kung Fu Television series inspired!

During the life of the western adventure KUNG FU/ABC/1972-75 eastern wisdom was imparted to both the aspiring Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine (David Carradine), as well as the listening audience.

You've seen Tarantino's "Kill Bill" with actor David Carradine playing the role of "Bill" and the bamboo flute Carradine plays in Kill Bill. You have seen the bamboo flute in the Kung Fu TV series. You may have seen the flute Carradine designed for Bruce Lee's "The Silent Flute" and in all cases you were inspired by the vision of these flutes.

I am inspired by the flutes David Carradine built during his life so I have created several flutes in the late actors flute design model.

The length and sound of this particular bamboo flute is inspired by the flutes of the ancient Shaolin Kung Fu masters who used their instruments as walking sticks, martial arts weapons and as instruments of music.

Built from cured Chinese stone bamboo which is dyed green at the factory in China. All holes are burnt via burning rods. There is a sound chamber above the breath hole that adds to the special quality of this flute. The flute is created with a mix of fire and water. Fire for burning all holes and the bore and water for soaking and cleaning the bamboo after the work with fire is completed. I color the bore in either blue or red with eco-flow water based stain which I mix with more water so it is a light stain on the inside of the flute. Brown hemp bindings. Tuned in concert pitch to the pentatonic minor scale. 4 holes on the front and a thumb hole on the back like the Shakuhachi flute.

Kanji script for Kung Fu has been carved and created into a art piece on the flute body to enhance the intention of this beautiful bamboo flute.

A custom bamboo flute design by Thomas Richardson Music, directly inspired by the bamboo flute that David Carradine plays in scenes from Kill Bill. The flute featured in the Kill Bill films is a David Carradine flute design.

David was a unique flute builder. He grew his own bamboo, he harvested it, and designed beautiful bamboo flutes for himself. He tended to set the emboucher, the breath hole, several cells down the bamboo towards the center depending on what kind of bamboo he was making his flute out of. The flute he designed for "the Silent Flute" film is a great example of his creative flute building perspective. If you view his Tai Chi AM / PM DVD in the special features you get a good look at his flutes, especially the flute he made for Bruce Lee's film. The flutes I am listing on Etsy look a lot like the flutes Carradine made for Kill Bill, Kung Fu TV Series and for the Silent Flute.

On this Kill Bill flute replica, the breath hole is located after the third or fourth node of the bamboo, which creates a sound chamber above the breath hole. This flute can be rested on the left shoulder like a violin when playing .Tuned to the pentatonic minor. scale. 5 holes with a thumb hole like a Shakuhachi flute. 1-2 + octave range. This flute is tuned in concert pitch. Made from tan cured Chinese stone bamboo.

I must say that this is the best flute I have ever played! You were right: It plays nicely in three octaves. Some players say that C#minor is voice of God. It sounds very odd but I think it`s true. I have played with virtual Tampura and yesterday evening I gave a concert to my friends. They heard Mother Earth's speaking from this piece of bamboo!
