Gourmet Soap for Awesome Folks!

Gotham City Soap Company was started by me, Jessica Beland, back in 2001, my then 4 year old daughter Gabby began to get huge welts on her skin. After numerous trips to the doctor and numerous allergy medications I set out to find what she was allergic to. After doing tons of research and a LOT of trial and error, I resorted to buying handmade soap, unscented, from a goat farm in Vermont. When this soap began to clear Gabby's skin we were ecstatic. Upon our research we discovered the benefits of cold processed handmade soap. It was no wonder Gabbys welts were clearing up!

When the woman making soap for us retired, we panicked. We sent her a lengthy email and she decided to teach me what her mother had taught her. How to make handmade cold process soap. Which used to be a common household duty. She taught me the same way her mother taught her, and her mother before that. Without any detergents or surfactants.

It took time and patience to get the cold process down but eventually I tweaked a soap recipe that treated my daughters skin amazingly. We made huge batches of it to keep in our house. We also began to experiment with fragrances and various skin nourishing ingredients such as oatmeal, cocoa butter and shea butter. All of these ingredients enhanced my bars and it wasn't long until friends began asking for bars and then friends of friends. Eventually we began selling mostly to neighbors and friends. We quickly grew as word of mouth spread. We now sell soap all over the world and 90% of our customers are repeat customers.

I stand behind every batch of soap I make. All soaps have been tested (though not on animals...) and are made in small batches to ensure consistent quality.

We aren't newbies to the soap world. With over 10 years of soapmaking experience we stand behind every gourmet batch of soap we make. We understand the importance of a great nourishing bar of soap and understand how this can change your life just as it did Gabby's (she is now 14 btw!!). All of our bars are free of artificial colors or detergents.
