I make individually hand crafted lamps, furniture (including pet furniture), 2D and 3D artworks, and miscellaneous utilitarian objects.
Most of my work is constructed using recycled objects and materials as much as possible, such as those selected from architectural salvage organizations, from the Free section of Craigslist, from yard sales, and from things that I simply find on the roadside or near dumpsters. The goal is to bring these objects and materials into the shop and repurpose them into new objects - taking something that is considered waste/broken/ugly, breaking it down, and rebuilding it into something attractive and useful, thus giving it a new life.
I tend to produce works that have a wabi-sabi quality to them - they bear the imperfections and markings from their original production, their long life of use and wear, and their reworking in my shop. My artwork is influenced by my love of maps and diagrams, my past experience as a drafter, and my interest in data visualization and infographics. My design work is influenced by a hybrid mix of raw DIY, industrial, and modern aesthetics.
