HecketyBeckety
HecketyBeckety's Shop Announcement
Welcome to my place!
For many years I have sewn and made patchwork quilts but recently, with all the publicity about environmental issues and reducing one’s carbon footprint I have become more interested than ever in the old thrifty habits of previous generations. Re-using fabric, trimmings, wool, buttons and other notions which would otherwise go to landfill is an ethical way to work. I generally use an electric sewing machine, but I have a treadle machine as well. I finish off by hand because I like the continuity of doing something the same way as it has been done for generations, and I suppose that also has a large bearing on what I make and the appearance of my items.
Homely, homespun Cloth Dolls which will age gracefully, Bags which can be washed and used until they wear out, Quilts to keep us warm when the wind whistles and the rain hits the windows. They were all needed a hundred years ago; they’ll be in use a hundred years from now. These things have a purpose and longevity which we would do well to re-introduce to our way of living.
