I create artwork as a means of connection. I desire to reconnect with stories and folk tales of the past, I desire to reconnect with my imagination and I desire to connect with my purpose in life and I desire to connect with my viewer. Through my pieces I utilize the old art of storytelling to communicate a message or an experience through metaphor, play, nostalgia and wisdom. I use scrap fabrics, paper and embroidery in my pieces as a means of connecting with traditional women’s art forms. Each scrap of fabric carries its own story and journey. A folktale could be written about the journey of the scraps of fabric from being made, to being cut apart and sewn into clothing, to arriving on my canvas. There is freedom in my work and within it I discover my identity, passion, love and answers to my questions.
