Homespun Stitchworks makes beautiful stitchery and bespoke items from Vintage and timeworn fabrics, adding in vintage buttons, embroidery and other goodies on occasions ..
I love sourcing the fabrics, linens, Mother of Pearl buttons and china ribbons and lace. I look for ideas amongest the fabrics I source. If I love a fabric and can see what can be made with it and ideas are always popping into my head. I have a sketch book that I put my ideas and fabric samples into. I also keep a book on what I have bought and from whom, always asking them the question " how old would you say this is" so that I can pass that on in my work.
I love working with antique paisley fabrics with there tiny print and timeworn and faded feel. I enjoy finding old eiderdown fabrics as well, which work well in my designs. I love making samplers and pictures and other seasonal items ALL of which are from vintage pre 1960 fabrics, linens, adding in carved buttons, hand embroidery and some ribbon and lace on occasions.
I have a blog .... www.homespunstitchworks.co.uk This keeps you up to date on new items currently being stitched among other things. Come along and join if you enjoy a vintage read ...
My Christmas journal are featured in the American publication Somerset Life. This years Autumn and Christmas edition. 2013 and also in 2014 a Wedding Sampler featured in the same publication.

5 out of 5 starsBeautiful gift and very quick delivery. Seller was very quick at replying to emails and always lovely in her responses. One small hiccup with paypal, however this was quickly resolved, with constant communication and an added bonus of sending an extra item. Will definitely buy from this shop again and would highly recommend!

Sarah Hawkings
Owner, Maker, Designer, Sourcing Of Fabrics And Coffee Maker!
I have always been interested in Art and sewing, especially fabrics and buttons. As a child I would always play in my grandmothers button box. First sorting colours then size and buttons that were the same. That was it, I was hooked! A little over a year ago now I started my business - although the planning, designs and sourcing and buying materials and fabrics started before then. I love all things vintage, because I adore history. I have always wondered who had this button first and on what was it adorned or if this blanket or linen could speak what stories would it tell. The pictures that I create tell a story of times gone by. The delicate nature of the vintage fabrics and quilt pieces that I buy and also the vintage French linens and the carved Mother of Pearl buttons that I use. I must explain that the vintage materials are far more expensive than modern ones but I believe they are more beautiful and stunning than new or plastic. Most of the buttons are rare and carved - sometimes I pay an awful lot for just one button that I will sew onto one of my pieces, but OH! the beauty and the history and craftmanship. I design all of my work and hand sew most of my projects with the exception of Christmas Stockings that I make, but all embellishments are hand stitched and embroidered. When finally I am happy with my pictures I take them to a professional framer who laces them and builds them up to protect the buttons and also seals them from moisture and uses non-reflective glass to bounce the sun off them to stop fading. Each picture has a handmade envelope on the back containing the provenience of all the fabrics and buttons used in its making and the title of each picture with my signature. Each one is unique by the very nature of limited rare materials that can not be bought again. Finally I hope you will enjoy them in your home or as a special gift, as I have enjoyed sourcing, designing and making them. I make all the candles in the vintage teacups and make the cake plates too. Thank you for looking.
