Mokume Gane (pronounced moe’-koo-may gah’-nay),
Mokume gane translated from Japanese means "wood eye metal". This complex metal lamination process was developed and used by Japanese craftsmen in the 17th century for the adornment of samurai swords.
The process that I use is a modern day version of this process on a much smaller scale that I adapted for my small Brooklyn studio.
These Rings currently have a chemical patina that will eventually wear off to be replaced by the patina / colors that develop according to your environment and body chemistry.
Metals currently used
Sterling Silver, Platinum Silver Fine Silver, Copper, Bronze, Brass, Nickel Silver, 14 KT Yellow, And the Japanese alloys of Shakudo, Shubuichi, Shiro Shibuichi.
My Mokume usually consists of between 8 – 24 laminated layers of metal.
