Announcement    Did you know that mosaic art is one of the oldest arts there is? Back in earlier times, it was considered a sign of wealth and status, I suppose because it takes so long to make. Properly made mosaic art work should last a long time and makes an excellent family heirloom to be passed down through the generations.

I've been re-purposing old china, porcelain, lamps, vases, anything that breaks for over 21 years. I also incorporate trinkets and tesserae I find along life's pathways from beaches to thrift stores. A lot of people find and save things for me that they have broken,, or even commission me to work with items and antiques they already have, like pieces of their grand mother's china.

True mosaic is time consuming and hand laid, piece by piece. You can either follow a pre-planned pattern or do as I usually do and just let your imagination go as you progress. It can be very therapeutic. The adhered pieces are then grouted, cleaned, polished and sealed.

When starting out, I just covered things with mosaic. Table tops, frames, mirrors, bowling balls....you can mosaic just about any solid item that doesn't move. I've evolved into sculpting my own forms and substrate. That way, I own the entire project.

I live in Florida with my little dog Tootsie and rescued feral cat Maggie. On Jan 1st of this year, 2021, at 12:01 a.m., I married David, a great guy whom I've been with for over 12 years. He helps me on a daily basis with my artwork whether it's cutting out a tabletop or taking something to the shipper, he's always willing to help.

It's a wonderful feeling to have others love what you've created! Life is good and as Oscar Wilde says "too short to be taken seriously". I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy making it. Maybe you'll find something that makes you smile or touches your heart in some way.

Here's the story

Shop members

  • Robbi Crabtree

Owner, Designer, Maker, Curator, Mosaic Artist

  • Maggie

    Assistant

Maggie was a feral cat, starving and skinny when we started feeding her. She's now a big part of our family. She's sweet and loves to play and when we let her outside, she shows us her "wild" side by bringing snakes home as presents.

  • Tootsie

    Companion & Watch Dog

Tootsie came to us after her first caretaker passed away. She was 8 years old and has fit in very well with her new family. Sweetest dog ever. We love her so much.
