Kate Slater grew up on a farm in Staffordshire and dreamt of being the youngest published author in the world, ever.

This dream came almost-true in 2010, although by this time Kate had reached the grand-old-age of 24 when Andersen Press published her first children's book, Magpie's Treasure. Kate had spent the intervening years filling exercise books and floppy disks, sketch pads and backs of envelopes with her stories and drawings. Occasionally she sent something off to a publisher and kept their rejection letters in a special folder. In 2005 Kate left the countryside and journeyed to London to study illustration at Kingston University, where she first fell in love with cutting and sticking.

Kate's illustrations are made entirely from paper snipped from magazines, envelopes and anything else stashed in her enormous hoard of rustling, papery wonder. Alongside her freelance illustration work Kate loves to create beautiful animal illustrations for prints, stationery and homeware which she hopes will bring joy to those who receive them. She prides herself on sourcing sustainably, printing on recycled paper and packing almost all her items plastic free.
