Tatting is a series of knots used to produce rings and chains. It originated with fishermen who passed their knowledge of knots to weavers. The craft dates back to the early 1700's in Europe and the Far East. Tatting was brought to America by the first settlers and gradually died out as a popular craft prior to World War I. It has only recently begun to experience a revival as crafters find more practical uses for the skill.
I began tatting about 10 years ago and revisited the craft while my son was being treated for leukemia and long hours were spent in the hospital and clinic waiting room. It is for that reason that a portion of all my sales will be donated to children's cancer charities both national and local. You can read about our experience at www.fiskerellibellies.com.
My tatted items are produced using a variety of weights of thread and yarn. I have developed some of my own patterns and adapted others from patterns found in books gleaned from thrift shops.
In addition to tatting I frequently list other items crafted in my home. Any item may contain upcycled materials.
In the shop you will find practical items for household use, decorative items, wearable items, and scrapbooking/cardmaking doodles.
Occasionally, I also list fabric creations. Materials for these item my be new or repurposed/upcycled.
