....but everyone loves a good story so here it goes...

Like most great ideas, Leigh Luna happened completely by accident. Designer and founder Katie Dawley was working in the corporate fashion industry and longed to get back to the organic small scale creative process. Mass production left a lot to be desired.

She started taking silver smithing classes after work to reconnect with the handmade process and fulfill the desire to create. The first piece she made was a cuff engraved with a personal message in braille. Never underestimate the power of the mysterious. The curiosity sparked by friends led to custom order requests and ultimately to the launch of Leigh Luna as a brand in 2011.

The collection quickly became recognized for it's unique offering of handcrafted custom jewelry with an androgynous modern edge. A few short years later, Leigh Luna has developed a loyal following both domestically and abroad. To this day each and every piece is created personally by the artist with very little use of mechanical production processes thereby preserving the spirit of a truly handcrafted product.

With a firm belief that our choices today will shape our future, the environment is at the forefront of Leigh Luna production practices. Each piece is individually handcrafted in a wind powered New York City studio using domestic materials, recycled metals, and sustainable practices whenever possible. We certainly aren't perfect, but we do our very best to make responsible and low impact choices. Our packaging materials are all recycled and fully biodegradable.

Leigh Luna is best known for the unique line of braille engraved pieces. The braille language allows one the ability to communicate a personal message that can be worn prominently, admired by many, but understood by few. People are curious so there’s always something striking about the things we can’t understand.
