Handwoven ANTLER BASKETS for your Rustic, Western Cabin or Hunting Lodge decor. Muledeer, whitetail deer, elk or moose antlers, are used to create your one of a kind basket art. Basket art brings in a touch of the outdoors and wildlife right into your home.
All baskets are designed and painstakingly woven in a ribbed basket style. I place my ribbed approximately 1" apart to add strength, durability and beauty to the baskets. I began weaving in 1993.
In 1995 I was chosen by QVC, the home shopping channel, to represent Wyoming in their series "The Quest for American's Best" featuring items manufactured in each state and was aired live from Laramie, WY. I attended a trade show of over 200 artisans and was one of 20 chosen. The items were then sold via the network, I sold 133 baskets during my time on the air. The Wyoming Commerce Department was quoted "Each product at the trade show represented the quality, individuality and grit that characterizes Wyoming people." Several of my remaining baskets were sold at the Wyoming State Museum.
I have no set pattern for any of my baskets, instead taking the feel of the antler and building the framework of the basket to blend with the antler. Some are wide and shallow, others deep and pocketed.
Actual baskets are photographed and offered for sale. Most taking 20-40 hours or more to create. Each basket takes on the grace of the antler, therefore no two baskets will be the same.
While some baskets are of my naturals collection, my trademark design, for which I am known, is the addition of buckskin, a variety of feathers, mostly wild turkey, pheasant, blue grouse and sage chicken. I use some conchos, but prefer my own cut antler conchos, leather lace and a variety of beads to accent the basket.
Living in the Platte River Valley, below the Medicine Bow National Forest, many of my baskets are named from local landmarks, creeks, trails, rivers and and lakes. Vivid local history abounds in Carbon County, including notorious outlaws, native americans, fur trappers, miners and the railroad. The Medicine Bow National Forest is comprised of three Mountain ranges: Snowy Range, Sierra Madre and the Laramie Range. From these, come my inspirations and creation of baskets for you to enjoy.
