Fresh from the Trap: wild things and tools for taming
My first true love was drawing and painting. I drew a lot of animals and Disney characters in my youth, but it was the mouse that was the subject of my very first oil painting on Christmas morning of my 8th year. I also collected stuffed animals and sewed my own as gifts for friends. Much later, while I was studying Fine Arts at Moore College of Art & Design, the real-life mouse infestation of my senior year apartment led to a thesis of "pest"-centric photographs, drawings and paintings. I had always had an affinity for animals, but it was this serious artistic investigation that helped me to visualize and verbalize it for the first time.
Mouse Trap Vintage was established in 2008 as a way to unload some of my own growing collection of vintage clothing and accessories, but more importantly to sell some of the early iterations of my hand-sewn City Mouse Pins. Then, I was working full-time in an office setting seeking creative satisfaction and a secondary source of income. I fell in love with the Etsy community and with the satisfaction of actually making money from a creative venture and have been working hard since to better my shop and to offer new, one-of-a-kind vintage items for sale each week.
This August 2013 I celebrated my one year anniversary as a full-timer! Stay tuned for lots more wild things and tools for taming!
