Hi - My name is Michael Moran. I am presently working at 3rd Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis. My work in functional wares is focused on the creation of beautiful and useful objects for the home and office, employing a modern aesthetic using classic platonic shapes – the sphere, hemisphere, cylinder, and cone – as the basis of form. Fresh combinations of transparent and opal colors enliven each piece. My sculptural work with glass is focused on the synthesis of very tightly controlled blowing and cold-working techniques with the fluid quality of the hot material. I contrast geometric form with organic form in an effort to break down conventional expectations about the use, posture, and perception of blown glass objects.
