Mystic Knotwork has been the source for nautical wedding knots, nautical decorations, and of course the iconic sailor bracelet we've been making for over 50 years.

We have stayed with the traditions started by my grandfather back in the 1930s and when he opened to serve the public in 1957.

Our commitment to excellence caught the eye of Martha Stewart in 2013 which led her to sharing our story in a 3 page article in the May 2013 issue of Living. After watching us continue to grow and stick to our American Made commitment, she further recognized us as 1 of only 4 artisans worthy of an Honorable Mention for Heritage crafts in the 2014 American Made Summit (of 6,000 entrants). This recognition has deepened our commitment to the best quality in both our work and materials possible.

Matt and Jill of Mystic Knotwork continue the 60 year family tradition by creating sailor bracelets and other knotwork gifts for nautical and boutique shops. As specialty retailers return to American made quality, his customer base has grown to include wedding planners, maritime gift shops across the country, and some of the best known museums in New England.

Alton Beaudoin, Matt's grandfather started the business across from the Mystic Seaport back in the 1950's and continued it as hobby until his retirement from Electric Boat in 1972. From 1972 through almost 1999 Alton developed his hobby into a true business selling his fancy knots to people all over the world. Even today people from Europe and North America still speak fondly of him. Matt started his career in 1978 as a way to earn allowance and pay for college. In 1996, as his grandfather was scaling back his business; he passed along a portion of it for Matt to develop. He worked it as a hobby off and on until 2008 when the economy turned. As a result of pressure from his Fortune 500 corporate employer, Matt took the plunge and began selling online. By the beginning of 2009, he developed a strong enough market to allow him to cut loose the ties from corporate America and hitch himself to his own ability to navigate his way through this stormy economy.

Because Matt was having too much fun knot working, Jill decided to help Matt knot work, and keep his rudder amidship by leaving her career in health care in 2012. Since our business has continued its strong growth, Christa started coming over to help out as well, and in 2014, Haley Smith offered to help a few hours per week.
