NUWoodz, the center for handmade wooden figurines. Jon Niemann of California and Carla Urban of New Mexico collaborate to create custom, one of a kind unique wooden characters. Jon is a retired information technology executive and now devotes his spare time to his woodcarving hobby. Carla is an accomplished artist whose pen and inks were featured in the book Salone Italiano. Jon resides in California and Carla in New Mexico. Their works are made of a variety of woods and turned on a lathe. Each figure has some carving for accent. Most are wood burned for texture. They are then painted with acrylic paints and finished with a clear acrylic spray. A tiny brush is used for fine detail and shadows so brushstrokes do show.
