NineCranes's Shop Announcement
The scarves and cards are both made starting with pressed leaves found in the Northwest.
The cards are color reproductions of light-sensitive paper exposed to sunlight with leaves, lace papers and various inks applied.
The scarves are hand-made using stencils I've cut from pressed leaf designs. Leaf shapes are burned out of silk/rayon velvet using the devoré technique. The velvet is colored with Procion MX dyes. I also hand-paint the leaf shapes with thickened dyes and Lumiére metallic dye-paints. I sew a fine wool to the silk/rayon to add texture, substance and drape to the scarf. The fringe is hand-twisted from the wool backing.
The fabrics are all washed prior to dyeing and assembling to remove finishes and to pre-shrink.
