I love hunting down old treasures and learning the past history of things. Giving these vintage pieces a new home is one of my biggest pleasures.
Come visit the opening of our second shop called OUTLYINGPROJECT: http://www.etsy.com/shop/outlyingproject?ref=si_shop
My main passion and pleasure is searching for everything old and things that are unwanted and what people have banished from their closets. Transforming these outlying pieces into something beautiful and wearable again is the best challenge. All of my designs repurpose vintage or unused surplus materials to create modern and sustainable limited edition pieces. Outlying is for all vintage only.
I make clothing for people to feel the same way as I do when I wear a new design: Transformed, unique and a feeling that you've purchased something ethical to sustain our planet.
12.7 million tons of clothing go directly into American landfills a year. After my experience in working in the fashion industry I felt a need to conserve the environment in any way I could by producing a more efficient and environmentally friendly way of making clothing.
I've worked for such labels as Isabel Toledo, Madison Marcus, Twig, Jamison, Express, and Robert Rodriguez. The further I went in the fashion industry I felt I was moving farther from the hand making aspect of my creativity and adding to the destruction of our planet. So, I decided to start OUTLYINGPROJECT. It's emphasis is on creativity, reused materials, hand crafting and all inhouse production, which is basically just me for now.
I love teaching others how to sew and making custom clothing patterns. My other "job" is teaching custom private sewing lessons and patternmaking. If you live in the Los Angeles area and would be interested in taking a class, convo me.
