** 6/17/11 I am taking a mini vacation from Etsy while I get my inventory counted and ready to rock! Check back soon for some clearance soaps!!**
Welcome to Owl Tree Soaps!
As a mother of two little girls with very sensitive and eczema prone skin, I had to find a gentle, but cleansing soap that they could use on a daily basis without causing dryness and rashes. After trying nearly every soap and cleanser on the market, I finally realized that I would just have to create my own soaps. And it turns out that making soap is actually a lot of fun! I love creating new recipes and scent mixes. I use both essential and fragrance oils, so be sure to check the ingredients labels if you have any skin sensitivities to fragrances!
I make my soaps using the “Cold Process” method. This means I use oils and butters such as Coconut, Palm, Shea, and Cocoa to name just a few, and mix them with a lye solution to create a chemical reaction called saponification. After the soaps cure for 2 weeks they are safe to use. I like to let my soaps cure for an additional two weeks to make sure the bar nice and hard. The harder the bar, the better the lather and the longer it will last!
I test all my soaps on myself and my children, never on animals. I use natural or organic ingredients whenever I can; but I always use high quality, fair trade ingredients!
I also create soy candles. I use soy candle wax because it's clean burning and has a nice wide scent throw. My candles are made in short mason jars and are between 6 and 6.5 oz. They have a total burn life of 60 hours.
I have MANY fragrance and essential oils as well as exfoliants and botanicals. If you don't find what you're looking for listed, message me and I can create something for you!
