Chapbooks, or little stitched booklets, were popular in England in the 16th through 19th centuries. Chapbooks were distributed by “chapmen”, tradesmen or peddlers, who included chapbooks among their wares. Subject matter ranged from religious tracts to nursery rhymes, folk tales, almanacs and poetry. Some chapbooks were illustrated with engravings, or woodblock prints. Peregrine Arts chapbooks have 32 ivory hand-sewn pages and are tied with a satin ribbon.
Clamshell boxes consist of two trays that are hinged with a book cover. They can be used to store a book, matted prints, loose pages or photos, or ephemera. The box can be stored flat, or upright on a bookshelf. Archival clamshell boxes are custom made and can be covered with all book cloth, or a combination of cloth and decorative paper.
